Best fade on the west side. Been going here for about 6 months now. Almost never a wait to get a clean cut. Keith is my guy. Highly recommend any of the guys in the shop. Reasonable prices for any cut. Call ahead for wait availability as not all the barbers are in the shop at all times. Cash only but ATM is in the store. Easy to find location with tons of free parking on the side streets. Metered parking available out front. read more

I don't remember the name of the barber who cut my hair, but I do remember he told me he's from Alabama, and his chair is in the front. I went there for a $45 cut because my regular barber wasn't available, and since I usually pay around that price, I decided to give him a chance. As soon as I get there, I see him smoking a cigarette outside. Then, during the haircut, he gets on the phone. It's obvious he's under the influence of something, and he's yelling at his girlfriend, asking her to buy him clothes because he can't afford them. That alone felt very unprofessional and disrespectful. The haircut itself was a disaster. I told him specifically not to touch my lineup, and he did it anyway, pushing my hairline back a little. He didn't cut down the sides properly either. Worst of all, he cut my face with a razor. I know barbers aren't supposed to do that, but he did it anyway. I didn't speak up because he seemed on edge, and I didn't want to cause a scene or risk a fight. He lined me up with a razor instead of clippers, handed me the mirror, and my face was bleeding from the corner of my head. On top of that, there was hair all over my face, and he didn't bother to clean it up. To make matters worse, when he tried to sponge my hair, the sponge slipped out of his hands, hit the floor, and then he picked it up and put it back on my head. That was beyond disgusting. On top of everything, he was spitting on me while he was talking. This was the worst barbershop experience I've ever had. I left with razor bumps all over my face and a cut on the side of my head. Luckily, the scar is going down now, but I will never come back to this place, and I would never recommend it to anyone. Whoever runs this shop needs to reevaluate how it's being managed because it's unacceptable. This place deserves zero stars. read more

I've been to this barbershop since my son was a small child when no one else wanted to be bothered...thank you TJ. He's an adult now but the folks are still the same, some new faces. Well I decided to cut my hair really short a couple of months ago and was in need of a decent trim. Walked in, said hi and asked if anyone could do it when they had some time. I had a "newbie"Keith do the 'do. Having never been an customer I told him what I wanted and boom he delivered and it didnt coat me as much as another shop wanted. I'm more than pleased. I knew I was so cute I forgot my glasses Shoot I had a bomb ass 'fro...first for me in my ENTIRE life! Thank you Keith and the rest of the crew at Headmasters! read more

I dont know why i went here. But i did. One side of my cut was completely off from the other side. Which i shoulda known after the cut took the man 10-12 mins. No attention payed what so ever. I went to another barber the next day to get it fixed. SMH read more

This is a picky place not all the barbers are good I had one guy give me a great taper Whn I went to get it touched up and he wasn't there the dude cut into the top of my hair thinking it was the side and proceeded to blame me for his mistake I won't be coming back after tht don't let the African dude with dreads cut your hair he's a horrible barber read more

Came here with my brother to get cuts. The workers in there are cool, its a clean store, and they also have sports games on, giving you something to do while waiting. We walked in, were greeted, and asked if walk-ins were accepted. He said yes, and then brought a man hanging out in the back of the store in who was assigned to cut our hair. I'm not one to bash people for messing up, I understand it happens, but I must say though, the guy who cut our hair did a horrible job... My brother asked for a taper, I requested a shadow fade. What we ended up with was an uneven, unfinished taper, and an unwanted flat top. I told him numerous times, I did not want the sides of my afro cut, because I didn't want it to end up looking like a box fade. Instead, he insisted that my hair was uneven, cut the sides, and ended up making it look as bad as I imagined it would. My brothers taper was honestly painful to look at. Overall, good service, bad quality (In my case) read more

Since I've recently located to the LA area from Vegas, I needed to adapt into a new environment. Being a brotha, one of the first things on my to do list was to find a barber shop. Headmaster's is a cool spot. They have a full staff on barbers so the wait isn't too bad. I've been here twice already and I've had the pleasure of getting my haircut by two of the six or seven barbers and I was pleased with the outlook on both visits thus far! Always get a bald fade and they take their time in crafting the perfect haircut for $18. Friendly environment for adults and kids. The barber to client personal conversations up to the entire shop involved sports debate makes the environment very relaxing. Plus they also have Jamaican food being cooked fresh and served in the back! The only downsides in my opinion are there aren't any bathrooms in this barber shop unless its staff only and there's meter parking but I always park around the corner for free lol. read more

So my boyfriend just called me on the verge of tears. He's grown out his hair for over a year to achieve a look that he showed his barber today which they said they could do with ease. He would never make a stink himself so I'm going to do it for him because I'm the one who will have to deal with him being in a bad mood now. He says he's embarrassed to show his hair and is going elsewhere tomorrow to have it all cut off :( I don't know who his barber was, but they began the cut really high on his head and it was all downhill from there. They spun his chair around which apparently is something a lot of barbers do, so he couldn't see in the mirror. There's a patch in the back of his head which is just a random half buzzed spot. I'm not going to pretend I know the terminology or any of the shit that goes into dudes haircuts, but this does not look right. The guy did not listen to him or check in with him to make sure he liked it and by the end my boyfriend was too uncomfortable to speak up and still even tipped the dude which was so undeserving! I asked him if I called would he be willing to go back and have it fixed and he said no. He never wants to set foot In this place again. "This dude ruined my ducking hair." - His words :( read more

The wait isn't too bad usually and most of the time they have a slew of barbers available. I always get a good cut when i go. No Bathrooms just so you know. They have parking on the street and don't forget to bring change for the meters! read more

I thought because it was brother's cutting hair they would know what they're doing. I was wrong. Sent my son to get a haircut, and it look the same as if he never went. Very sloppy job, no crispy line up, the barber couldn't fade for shit. Worst experience ever, I could give 0 stars. Don't waste your money here. Or research the barber first maybe we just got a Lazy Bastard. read more

This review is like about a year overdue but I got perhaps one of the freshest tapers of my life when I came here from the owner. I don't remember his name but ouiii I was beyond happy with the haircut. Parking sucks but just try to look for parking cause it's worth it. The vibes here are chill too. I hope this shop stays in business for many more years to come!! :) read more

My haircut took about an hour and a half, which I think was appropriate. It cost around $25 which is more expensive than I'm used to, but I doubt many people charge less in the area. I only wish my barber didn't get so angry when he was doing my haircut, made me anxious. read more

Great Haircut: Charles Boateng cut my hair, and did a fantastic job! I wanted short fade on the sides and a longer top (to comb back). He spent so much attention on getting my fade even without any stray hairs, and it really paid off now that I look at it. One of the cleanest haircuts I ever got. Charles worked fast, smooth, and with a purpose, but was never rude or rushing. He was polite, but not talkative and asked the important styling questions to ensure I got what I wanted. I did. He had the business sense to see that I was happy and gave me his card, so great job, I was very happy. Good Appearance: The shop was nice on the outside, and very nice, clean, and comfortable on the inside. The chairs were fantastic and comfortable, and there were two large TVs mounted. Hardly any hair on the ground, as the barbers do a great job at keeping it clean. Little weekday wait time: I went in to Headmasters Barbershop on a Wednesday before 4th of July. It was busy, but not crowded. Luckily, I arrived when there was exactly 1 barber that was free, so, luckily, there was no wait time. Other Notes: Yes, this shop is more pricey than a budget haircut place, but the value is there, you get the extra quality and experience for the extra dollar. A great place for kids (I saw three kids getting haircuts and they all left with as good of a haircut as all the adults). There is a bathroom on the premises, but not in the shop itself. Meter parking, but 1 hour parking on side streets during the day. I'd imagine there would be a wait on Fridays and Saturdays. read more

Though your comments may be true, I am, unfortunately, speaking from my experience... not that of the community! With that being said, I cannot comment on or reference the past 20 plus years. Being a customer service trainer, I am using my expertise to say that customer service was greatly lacking on the owners part, as well as, respect for his employee and patrons. Maybe over the past 20 plus years this shop's customs have changed. read more

Just got to LA and looked on Yelp for a barbershop. Head Masters seemed to have the best reviews and most reasonable price in the area. Austin gave me one of the best cuts I've ever had. He said he has worked there for about 7 years and been a barber for 20. This is also my first time getting a beard trim as I usually keep a clean face. Highly recommended for a excellent cut. Go see Austin over at Head Masters. I will definitely be going back! read more

The barber messed up my haircut real bad. He made the right side 4 inches and the left one and he sprayed water on it and combed it the the left and down.He told me it looks perfect.I didn't know what he was giggling about while he was combing my hair at first until I got home at night. They were all racist. From the moment we walked in, it started from the looks they gave us. Then it got worse. We were being treated unfairly. My friend felt way too uncomfortable and just left.I paid for good service.I just didn't think they guy would take it that far. This isn't professional at all. I didn't do anything to the guy. I just don't know why he had to take it that far and mess me over like that. read more

I wouldn't come here again. It took over an hour with 4 guys cutting hair for a buzz haircut.

When you get there, ask for Tee! He is amazing. He always gets me the freshest fades on the planet. You can tell he is passionate about what he does as he values quality over quantity. Went in for a quick clean up before I started at a new job. Next thing i know Ron shaved my head! Yup, shaved it. "oh whoops, I think I made it too short". Let me tell you bout this place I found! So I just got into LA and I was looking for a BLACK barbershop and I found it...and it was open on SUNDAY -- no appointment! Yes! After taking the big blue bus :/ I was dropped off about a block away from the spot. I walked in, and my barber MD had me to sit down in one of the available barber chairs. And I knew I was at the right spot when I heard "Body Party" by Ciara playing in the background (yas to RnB). I waited about 15 mins until I was served which is not that bad. I explained (albeit poorly what I wanted) and he did an EXCELLENT job! he was able to perfectly line me up and he used scissors with exactness that gave me that smoothed, rounded short-fro look I was going for. In a nut shell, if you are a out of towner new to LA, get you but to this spot and get the cut of your life! Cost: $18.00. -T.Y. read more
