I was gonna start this review off detailing how it is I came about being at Hair One for the first time, but I in no way want to confuse the Hair One crew with that fat ckfer who left the halfway fade on my head. Luckily I was able to find Dominique, the manager at Hair One, to make quick work of the errant cut before too much damage was done to my rep. That would be funny if you knew me. Hair One is a nice clean modern spot with flat screen TVs, big comfy chairs, and services for men and women. The cuts are professional, straight razor shaves available. Let me rephrase that.. Trustworthy straight razor shaves. The staff are friendly, intelligent folks, the type who could talk to you about politics as quick as what the Lakers are doin this season. I came here looking to get my 7 year old son's haircut, there were two barbers Tony and another one (his name was CJ or CC or something I don't remember). Tony was nice, friendly, and professional but he was working with a customer already, so the other guy took my son and he was horrible. Honestly I should've walked out before he started because I could smell his attitude before he opened his mouth. It took everything in me to not tell him about himself in front of my son and two young nephews. He needs to not work with people if he can't at least pretend to have customer service skills because the way he was talking to my son was horrible. My son doesn't hang around with rude/dry people so he's not used to a complete stranger talking mean to him and saying things like "you're tripping" and "I don't have time for that" just because he said the cape was tight on his neck AND You have nothing BUT time in the middle of the day on a Tuesday with no other customers. There are way too many barber shops in the area for me to ever have to step in this place again. read more

Hair One, deserves much love when it comes to men's haircuts, fades, and elaborate beard / facial hair care/ these gents are fun, friendly, and attentive. It's a modern clean shop with plentiful parking and a welcoming atmosphere - they deserve full 5-star reviews for that, ** but this is not a review on their core work this review is based on the honest assesment of their abilities on straight, "white people hair." My friend ___ came to me with some serious dread lock issues. She's white and had another friend, who is out of the picture dread her hair some time back.Since then her hair has grown out and she needed some help. We both called a few places to try and find a qualified shop that might not only know how to care for dreads but also all types of hair from super curly / think to limp and super-straight. At that time Hair One's resident dread expert said he could work with her hair and claimed the process would take 45 minutes to an hour for $65. I went with her since I had time to kill and it was near my place. I had to take off after 2 hours. Her hair took 3 hours, cost $75 dollars and instead of being combed down with beeswax, i think Castor oil hair grease/conditioner or something like it was used which does NOT works for some, like mine that is straight but thicker in texture super straight fine/limp hair. I think that at some point the hair dresser should have told us he hadn't done this kind of work before, that he was in over his head, or had just been truthful from the get go, that point-blank, he could not service her appropriately he would have saved us all time, her money, and my having to write this review. So if you just need a fade or men's cut this place is awesome no matter what your hair type ( I saw a whole microsm of world cultures getting men's cuts here) They all came out looking real good, but if you are a white girl looking to get your dreads hooked up, not so much, keep on looking. read more

I have a very difficult time finding a barber shop that can cut my hair. If I go to most barber shops in the city the brothers typically can't cut my hair. They just cant get the fade right. On the other hand I've been asked to leave supercut because they can't cut "my type of hair".... what does that supposed to mean. My hair texture is curly but dry, if i let my hair grow I could pull it back and have and have it lay back on my head or it's dry enough to sport a soft fro. Hair One take care of me. My son went there on Friday August 24, 2018. The barber that cut his name was named S.C. (Sean Christen), if spelled correctly. He did a HORRIBLE job on my son's hair..Deep CUTS and numerous scratches...When I went back and spoke to him all he could say is sorry and "it ain't that bad"... really?? ...for $21 my son has numerous cuts and scratches and then you want to blame it on his dry scalp...you should have offered his money back since you admitted to your mess up... If I could have given him NO stars then I would have however the app forces you to put something, so one star is all he gets. As far as barber skills, S.C. sucks!!!!! A few Halloweens ago I decided I wanted to be Kanye West. I attended UC Santa Barbara, and I've seen my fair share of Taylor Swift look-alikes. So I figured, what would be scarier than a black guy who walks up to women, steals their thunder and won't let them finish? Not a whole lot. Anyway, so I went here to get my haircut, told them I wanted to be Kanye West. Got a weird look, but the guy who cut my hair took about 45 minutes to draw what may have been the most elaborate pattern of crop circles I've ever seen. I was really impressed. I've been coming here for about a year now. Tony cuts my hair but I've gotten cut by a lot of the other guys SC and Belize. They are a nice bunch of guys they even have a woman who does hair on some days. What impressed me is that they have a young guy who helps out on the weekends to keep the place clean. Even though it's all guys the restroom is not horrible. I would recommend them. In fact I took my little cousin for her "Big Cut" Tony hooked her up!! I came here in hopes of finding a good barber shop that can cut women's hair and I trusted one of the barbers Tony to do it. I showed him a photo of what I liked and he showed me similar styles from what he said were his past clients. He didn't come close to my result and I am living with a really horrible haircut that is literally the opposite of what I wanted. Tony was also too forward with me and even gave me a completely unwanted kiss on the cheek as I was leaving, which made me so uncomfortable. In all honesty, the guys here cut hair very well. But the last time i went in to get a cut about 2 months ago, Tony cut my hair. They do a good job, but talk and play around a bit too much rather than just cutting hair. None of this is really a huge deal, but then one day Tony cut my hair with dirty clippers & the next morning (even after I went home to wash my hair) I broke out with ringworm all in the back and side of my head where he had done a fade. Wow, I am so happy I have found another great barbershop hidden on LaBrea! We usually go to Legendz off of Fairfax, but unfortunately Legendz is not open on Sundays to regular paying customers without an appointment. So, I had to find an alternative since my Bro was desperately in need of a haircut before school on Monday. Hence, Hair One! There's nothing spectacular about the inside of the shop, but the talented barbers more than make up for that. As a woman, I did not feel awkward walking into the shop like I just walked into a secret society meeting or something (which I have experienced too many times before)! My Bro got a mohawk. We didn't have to give too much direction to the barber either, he knew what we wanted and he delivered (I believe his name was Lu). Plus, prices are affordable with kid cuts at $13. About a week ago i went to "Hair One" for the first time to get a a hair cut. it is located in a very practical area, easy parking and easy to find. Enisa did a wonderful job at cuttign my hair and styling as well. she was in no rush to get me out, she took her time which made me feel like i was valued as a customer. i have been getting compliments on my new hair cut.
