My friends and I had a really good time at this escape room. I'm surprised by all the bad reviews. The only negative is that we had to wait because one of the rooms was broken, so it pushed everyone back. But the workers were super friendly and offered us another room to try. To start things off, some people find the business a bit hard to find but you just need to head down the stairs under the HD Escape Rooms sign. The employee said that every year to 2 years they update the escape rooms but it still felt slightly outdated compared to other escape rooms I have been to. Total Rip-off and Frustrating Experience - Avoid HD Escape Rooms I would give this place zero stars if I could. We've done plenty of escape rooms and usually only need one to three clues to finish, but this experience was a disaster from start to finish. The "Groupon" Trap: Don't be fooled by the $51 price tag. Once we went to actually book the reservation, they tacked on over $33 in "gratuity." They essentially doubled the cost of the room through hidden fees that you don't see until it's too late. It is a completely dishonest way to do business. The Room (Temple): The "Temple" room was a massive disappointment. It was tiny and felt more like a cramped dorm room than an immersive experience. To make matters worse, there was zero airflow. It was incredibly hot and uncomfortable the entire time; it felt like they didn't have the AC on at all. The Puzzles: The clues and puzzles made absolutely no sense. Nothing was logical or obvious. We ended up needing a clue for nearly every single lock just to progress because the "solutions" were so convoluted. We didn't feel challenged; we just felt annoyed. We left feeling frustrated and ripped off. We will never be back, and I'd recommend looking at any other escape room in Denver before coming here. read more

I would not go back again and was unimpressed from start to finish. Firstly, booking the room -- it was a bit of a pain. The website times out and then restarts you from the beginning and changes the date on you, too. Which when using a small screen cell phone to do this, is difficult to notice. So, as I was going back-and-forth with a friend, I muffed it. I didn't realize the platform changed the date on me and then I had to stress out trying to get ahold of them to change the date before anyone else booked the room with my 4 other friends. Getting ahold of them was NO small feat!!! It added stress to my life I didn't know was possible. It should be so much easier to edit especially with the site functionality. It didn't help the hours posted online and when they're actually there to pick up the phone were completely off. So, when I'd call during the hours posted, no one picked up. Luckily, I did finally get ahold of them to change the date and no one else booked the spots. I've been to about 5-10 different escape rooms in different cities. For noobs & children, they may think this is the cool but for someone who has the experiences to compare, this is not good. We start out in a hallway. All 8 of us in a small, rectangular hallway trying to all fit, outside the main escape room. We found the initial keys, but they didn't open the lock to the main room. So, we spent a ridiculous amount of time just trying to get the first step. It was nonsense that we had to use help for the VERY FIRST TASK. I really wonder how many people get this first step on their own. (See the end & last paragraph what that first thing was if you are ok with the spoiler, if not, then skip the last paragraph I've written). The room was for up to 8 people and it is not the right amount of people for the size. It should be 4-6 people max. The clues were SO QUIET I couldn't f'ing hear what they were saying. The screen was small and not modern. Nothing about this was modern. Def not "HD" like why even call it that. HD gives me a state-of-the-art vibe. This place is more like a cheap craft store. The clues were limitless, too, and I think that should not be the case. There should be some kind of better defined process and path to success. Conversely, the others doing their escape rooms next to us were loud! Never experienced such a distraction in the other escape rooms I've done. One of the clues the dude resetting the room MESSED UP! He didn't set it up right to have it ready for us. So we are trying and trying to do what it looks like we should be doing and it's not working at all. Really irritating. The room prep/setup is the #1 focus here, how can they mess that up? Unforgivable when you're an escape room and I hope I never experience that again. You're jobs aren't that hard and it's limited what you need to do for the group coming in who paid a stupid amount of money to do this. There were no other rooms, either! Just the one, single room and that was it! Not very exciting. Most escape rooms eventually open to other hidden rooms & spaces. And is part of the reason why you have 8+ people not to mention part of adding excitement to the adventure. When we got to the last task... we had like 25 mins left. I really couldn't believe it. I opened a chest expecting the next clue and BAM! We were done. I reactively said out loud, "That's it?!". It felt very anticlimactic. Can I get $10 back? Lol, J/K. The whole set up is just bad. The building is a bit dilapidated and falling apart. Bathrooms are only one step up from a port-a-potty. They just forced this in escape room in there to make themselves more money. The space doesn't fit that type of business, though. SPOILER: (skip this one paragraph if you don't want a spoiler) -- you've been warned -- the room is dark and the way for us to get in was to use what looked like a random bed post laying in the back corner to reach inside the cell bars to remove a key that's hanging on the INSIDE of a small, fake skull (THAT NONE OF US EVER SAW CAUSE IT'S DARK AND SMALL -- you really cannot notice it at all). All 8 of us did not notice it. Super duper lame to start out that way. I even picked the damn bed post up and said out loud "What's this doing here" but since I saw nothing to reach in and grab in the first place, I never would have gotten to a place of using the bed post to reach in. We done quite a few escape rooms around the Denver area and this one was by FAR the worst. I don't need to reiterate what everyone else has mentioned but the tipping fee for someone that was really unwelcoming, the cleanliness of the location, and the lack of even knowing that we escaped were already not worth the money we spent. First off the man who worked the counter was not welcoming at all. He sat at his desk and barely interacted with the customers. He was mostly on his phone. People would be asking for help and he was slow to respond. I sat at the counter and watched as my girls were in the Lost Temple room. Not sure why we need to pay a gratuity for someone to sit at the desk on their phone. Second it was so hot. The girls had to keep coming out to get air because it was so hot in the room. I understand it's an old building but there should be more fans or something. Today wasn't even that hot of a day. Also I would not bring kids to this location. Being off Colfax the area is kind of sketchy. It didn't feel unsafe during the day but I would be uncomfortable at night. Also the "gender neutral" bathroom is just a men's bathroom women can go in. I am bummed to leave negative reviews, but from the moment you walk in this place it is just old and dirty, it smelled like urine, the pirate room we did was so small that had we had the eight people we originally booked for we would not have been able to move around as five already felt crowded. Truly the worst escape room in Denver. My wife and I have done many. Never before have we left a room feeling like we'd been pranked. We did Haunted. There is a "puzzle" in the lobby to get into the room and then 3 locks and a ouiji board. 5 total puzzles. 2 of the 5 are ridiculously obvious and the only part that makes them even vaguely puzzle-like is the use of a black light. 2 others are so poorly structured there's no one on earth who would think they were good puzzles. Trying to avoid spoilers, but there's so little to spoil. Avoid at all costs. Horrible, horrible, horrible room. A more fun experience would've been standing in a closet for 45 minutes and then opening the door and exiting. read more

My family & friends are Escape room aficionados. There was five of us 2 adults, 11yo, 10yo and 8yo). We did the Caribbean room. The puzzles were fun and complex and really made us work for it, but we finished it quickly. My group would have preferred larger rooms. Maybe 4 max in that room. we were tripping over ourselves. And it was hot. (We appreciated the fan.) The rest of the experience wasn't so great. I purchased a Groupon and couldn't book a place on the website. I called to say we would be there tomorrow during the day. I never got a call back, so we just showed up. The man at the desk did his best to get us through. it was VERY frustrating trying to find the Groupon code that we needed. But he rushed us through and we got in. They charged us $52 for 5 people on top of the money I paid to Groupon, giving us a savings of only a few dollars. When I looked at the Groupon website, we were only supposed to pay for tax ($9) and gratuity ($27), so we over paid by $16. I get that we were rushing (if only they had called me!) While I blame Groupon for being a pain in the ass, I feel like all of that could have been avoided had they just called me back. My advice: * Don't buy a coupon via groupon. * Drink water before going in (a LOT) * if you're good at escape rooms, use less than the allotted # of people read more

TLDR- The host was rude, unwelcoming and unfriendly from the start. And judging by the rest of his reviews on here should be let go. Josiah is part of the problem. The Haunted room is poorly constructed and impossible to enjoy for HOH individuals. Deserves zero stars. Ruined my one night out for my birthday and my one date night I've had time for this year Will not be returning. If you are HOH do not do the Haunted room. Josiah is rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. I think it's ridiculous that anyone would believe it's okay to start a room with low level sound clues in a the lobby that is open to the street, connected to a bar, has an industrial fan (in a 7x 7 room and right below the first audio clue), while a rude host stares at you from within the room. When we were confused because we could not hear clues and asked a question immediately, we were i'm met with a snide. 'You need a help already' which left me not wanting to ask any questions of the host. When we left, because my wife was visibly upset and almost crying in front of another group who's room had ended and were coming into the lobby to celebrate, we were met with an extremely rude 'TOUGH.' When we requested a refund because we were unable to start the room since we stood for 20 minutes in a lobby unable to enjoy ourselves on our date night for my birthday. We were told no refunds we could reschedule. Why would I want to reschedule with a host who made me feel uncomfortable and had zero compassion for the physical challenges my wife was facing. this review is not a reflection of the person working at the front, but rather the quality of the room itself. we just finished the haunted room and it was easily one of the cheapest most random escape rooms I have ever done. room was not set up properly to begin with so we wasted time with pieces that were not supposed to be to revealed till later. certain portions of this room as so unclean that one of their puzzles will definitely upset any dust allergens you have in a tiny space. MAYBE six puzzle total in the entire room. last puzzle took us 5 minutes longer than it was suppose to due to the fact that the cheap puzzle would not recognizing the correct pattern and the front desk worker cannot even tell when their is an error in your room unless you vocally express frustration. Lastly the beginning of the puzzle is in the waiting area where people are coming in for their appointment and where folks who just finished a room take pictures, so you have a lovely obstacle of random people in your way for the first puzzle. Unimpressed overall We did the Haunted Room, which was advwrtised as being scary but it wasnt. The attendant was not helpful and left out really important info in the beginning, so we wasted time waiting to start while he set up another group. The game involved some clues in the bar upstairs, which was incredibly loud, and furniture had been moved around blocking things, so that was frustrating. Not difficult but annoying, which isn't what you want from an escape room. The puzzles were OK but mostly hard because they weren't intuitive and didn't make sense. The room nest door was very loud with a big group which made it hard to hear audible clues. The room was also really dirty, and it was kind of gross to be trying to look around under things. Beware of spending your money and time here! We bought a Groupon and had to book our room online- their system is terrible and booked two rooms and charged us! No one at the place can help, you have to email the manager. We didn't get a response for over a week letting us know we would get our refund processed. On top of all of it, they automatically charge a booking fee and gratuity, something that doesn't come up when booking until you get an emailed receipt! We finally got a refund minus $75, and we still don't have an explanation as to why they kept $75- no breakdown. On top of all of this, we spent a total of 30 minutes in the room- way too easy. At the end of all of it, we spent $175 on 30 minutes at an escape room- find something else to do for $175 and poor customer service! read more

We had booked a Groupon for an event and we're having trouble with the code. We expressed this to the attendant who was reluctant to assist us in any way. When we agreed to call Groupon to resolve the issue he rushed us out of the establishment so that he didn't have to assist us. He said "there's the door". He was extremely rude, unhelpful, and overall unwilling to assist us. I'm very disappointed by the customer service as I was excited by the rooms. This was fun! The play is interesting and varied. The setting was fun for the room. Details and instructions are very well provided. Space is Sssssssuuupper tiny. Which plays into group size. This is NOT an 8 person setup. 6 people was a bit crowded. 8 would be way too many ppl for the available space. 4 is best. On our last night in town visiting friends we decided to do a last minute escape room. HD Escapes happened to have a later game that worked. We arrived on time and we're told to wait in the bar upstairs for about 15 minutes. Once we entered the room (Haunted) it was clear that it wasn't anything special. It was so hot that they had a fan in the room to keep us from sweating to death. All of us have some escape room experience but aren't experts by any meaning of the word. With that being said we escaped in under 25 minutes to a really anticlimactic end. This is marketed as their hardest and most inventive room ever, and sadly that just wasn't close to the truth. I would love to give their rooms another chance in the future but I can't help but feel cheated out of $145 for a subpar 20 minute adventure. read more

Worst escape room Ive ever done. Janky and extremely unintuitive. When we got to the escape room the guy working there explained that the previous people to escape from the room we we're doing had broken one of the puzzles. Not a big deal, totally understandable. When we got into the room the guy explained that the entire right corner of the room was off limits (This was basically half the room.) He explained that it's where all the wiring was and to not touch anything. keep in mind the room was tiny, like 400 square feet and it did not have a second room. As we progressed we realized that the puzzles were extremely disjointed and unoriginal. Every clue felt extremely guess and check and had zero pay off. We were continuously yelled at for touching things we weren't supposed to, and even yelled at for getting to close to touching things. keep in mind literally everything had a "do not touch" sticker except for the locks. This completely killed the magic of searching for clues because basically everything had a do not touch sticker unless it was an obvious clue. One of the puzzles was that we had to blow into a candle to put It out buuuttt, the candle would not blow out even after multiple try's and when we touched the candle out of confusion we were yelled at. The story completely depended on talking animatronics that were barley understandable. The room was also an oven and extremely hot. It was a complete disappointment considering we payed 145 dollars to have one of the puzzles broken and 60% of the room to be off limits. read more

Let me preface this by saying I've done about 25-30 escape rooms. This is my jam. I know what it takes to make a good escape room. I'm 30, my girlfriend is 27. We are THE demographic for escape rooms. We did Carribean Curse, and without giving anything away, here are my issues: We had 8 people and there MIGHT have been 10 things to solve total. It's linear. You solve one thing and then move on to the next thing. This means 7 people are standing around doing nothing. There was no /reason/ for doing anything. This clue here? It goes with that arbitrary thing over there for some reason. It doesn't tell a /story/. There's no reason at all that any of these things go together. Did a pirate leave these behind for us to escape? No. There's just boxes here for no reason. The final objective was a real let down. You need to get down on your hands and knees and work a lock that was not explained in the intro like all the other locks. One, maybe two people can look at this while everyone else stands around with their hands in their pockets hoping for the best. Finally, the game master was unhelpful. You should know where I am in the game when I ask for a hint. I wasted the last bit of our time explaining on the walky talky that we were already 5 clues ahead of the objective he was trying to give us hints for. On the very last objective he gave us a clue that was actually a red herring. It's a tiny room. There's no countdown clock, which is half the hype. It was too dark to see. And it's literally just opening locks. No riddles, no puzzles, just standard locks. There are other escape experiences for the same price with much higher production quality, multiple rooms in the same experience, special effects, and more interactive and creative puzzles to solve than just "open this lock! now open this lock! now open this other lock!" I'm not saying don't go here, I'm just saying there are other escape rooms where your money would be better spent. read more
