A recent task made me realize that the difference between printing stores can be night and day,…read moreeven among different Kinko's locations. I am now convinced that only the staff at this particular Kinko's store in Northern Virginia truly understand how to enlarge a PDF drawing using a precise 1.77 scaling ratio (so that it perfectly matches the actual size of a plaque). I tried three other Kinko's locations (Tysons, Braddock Road, and Main Street in Fairfax), one Staples printing center, and one specialty print shop in McLean, and none of them knew how to enlarge a drawing using a fixed ratio. All they could do was print the PDF at its original size or fit the drawing to certain paper size. When this store experienced a power outage for two days, I had no choice but to try those other locations, and that was when I learned how limited their technical knowledge was. Modern printing tools clearly allow scaling by ratio, yet the staff at those locations either did not understand or did not know how to use this function. Some even asked me to provide separate width and height measurements, which would distort the image. A single scaling ratio should be applied uniformly to both horizontal and vertical dimensions to preserve the correct proportions. Once the power was restored at this store, I realized how fortunate I am to have access to it. It appears to be the only location capable of handling this task correctly. To clarify, this was a task that spanned several weeks, as I needed to edit the drawing multiple times. During that period, I worked with several employees at this location, and they consistently provided accurate and reliable enlargement services. With the exception of one employee who was unfamiliar with the process, nearly all staff members were able to apply a single scaling ratio to enlarge the drawing--unlike the other stores mentioned above, where no one knew how to do so.
