Small place, good for a quick pick up or there is a small area where you can sit. Love that they had a special for $5 which included 2 plain slices and a can of soda. I found parking right in the front but it is a rather main street which may get congested. Service was great. The gentleman took my order quick, asked if I preferred my slices in a box and provided lots of napkins. The slices were good. My daughter really enjoyed it. Had an interesting dining experience at Iggy's in Hawthorne today, 9/30/24. Have been a regular customer for some time and have never had a problem. Ordered a hot sandwich as part of a larger order to be picked up. Got it home and saw the bread was a little burnt and hard. Asked the owner to change out the bread and he refused. He indicated the sandwich was perfect and he felt there was no way he could further please me, the customer. He said a "homeless man" would gladly eat the perfect sandwich as made so it should be good enough for me. He said he only makes the pizza and it is not his fault I cannot eat it. He threw the $10.00 I had paid him earlier for that part of my order on the counter and pointed me towards the door. To say the least, I was completely shocked given I had never experienced a problem before. Left the money on the counter. As I exited, the owner yelled out, "you forgot your money". I said, "keep it". I consider it a lesson learned and thank you for pushing me to your competitors in Hawthorne. read more

Been going here for years but never did a review until today. Ordered 2 pies and some zeppoles. Pizza is not amazing but is okay and very consistent quality each time you visit. I didn't like that the young girl who was behind the register did not have a mask on when I entered. She also handled cash money in the register, counting money, and then went over to pull pizzas out of the oven, box pizzas and cut pizzas. Her hand would touch the pizzas on the crust to hold them in place while she cut. She did not wash her hands and the same tools she touched, the cook used as well, which means everything is contaminated and unsafe. I urge this location to commit to safety because guests are not going to come back if they feel that the food is unsafe (including myself). The zeppoles were very fresh and hot, had a wonderful taste and aroma, but were extremely dense. I had to take a break after eating 2 because of how hard I worked my jaw muscles. I think they would be better a bit lighter and fluffier. To be honest this location is worth 2 stars for the details above, but I will give them 3 because I believe they if they can implement better safety - such as 6ft distance floor stickers and plastic barriers for the cashier, it can be improved drastically. read more

Went in for some chicken Marsala and this is a plate I split with my boyfriend.(image below) As the cook brought over our plate my boyfriend warns me the foods coming so we took our mask off and as he placed our plate down he says we need to put our masks on when eating! We usually order the pizza over the phone, so I have no idea what the other food is like. The pizza is really good, but I would recommend asking for thin crust and well done. For some reason on Saturdays, they don't seem to listen to your order. Maybe it's a different cook or they are really busy. It seems that they have some what sold the restaurant and now have new people/cooks running it. Well, let me tell you, I will not be ordering from them anymore. Complete and utter disrespect. Ordered over the phone and they said they would call back in 5 minutes to take my credit card info. Never got a call back so I called again 15 mins later. They took down my credit card info and said it would be half an hour until the pizza was delivered. They called back 25 mins later saying that the credit card didn't go through so they hadn't sent the delivery out yet. I re-read my credit card info to them. Was waiting another 10 minutes and then they called back again saying the credit card was still not being accepted (I know for a fact that there was nothing wrong with the card). The person I was dealing with then proceeded to tell me that "error 50" was appearing on their credit card machine (as if that would mean something to me). This was my first visit to Hawthorne Best Pizza. It was at 12:30pm on a Saturday. To be honest, I did not plan to go here. I visited JT Straw for the first time with intent to get a beef brisket pizza but I was met with signs stating that they are closing down the restaurant. There's no need to try something that won't be there soon after so I went with a plan B. I ordered a large pepperoni pizza. I waited at a table while watching and listening to local cable news on the television and staring at boxes of shoes from the other store that occupies the building. But I decided to give it another go and was again let down. Then a few months later I went to my mothers and she had ordered a whole pie. I took a bite, was not happy at all and asked where she got it. Of course, it was from Hawthorne's best. Unfortunately the nickname of this place is (no surprise) Hawthorne's Worst. Hawthorne's Best is noticeably better all round in terms of cheese/sauce/crust and variety on hand at any one time. They have delivery service and some pretty attractive family deals to offer. They are even kind enough to include Italian bread with many of their salads as sides. The staff if friendly and polite which is one reason I support this famiy owned and operated pizzeria. If you are in the area it is well worth taking a stop (the sicilian slices are great with a heafty layer of cheese and sauce with some real flavor!) The storefront is somewhat hidden and the enterance is shared by a nearby shoe repair store which kind of threw me for a loop. I think they need a sign that sticks out, or a posterboard sign on the sidewalk to draw more attention to them. As a professional foodie, I rarely write reviews unless I am being paid. Arguably, pizza is one the most important foods in my world. So much so that my niece and I have been going once a week to each pizza restaurant in the Hawthorne area ordering the same style slices and rating them. We agreed to only write reviews on the places of the very highest rating. It was a 10 from 1 to 10 and ten being the best. I walked out of Hawthorne's just blown away at the artistry of pizza created at this pizza joint. AND make no mistakes,,,it's a joint. No frills decor, and very clean eating area only prove to accentuate the insanely flavorful, perfectly crafted pizza. The crust reminds me of the crust I once ate when ill spent days of my youth happened in Rome, Venice, and Florence, Italy. In my opinion it is the main event! a pizza crust must be the very foundation of flavor or vehicle to present whats on top. The sauce is perfectly balance between sweet and salty. He uses the finest quality cheese which one can tell by the oils it gives off. I have consequently been back to try all of the specialty slices and while they are all beautifully thought out and executed, this foodie recommends the chicken bacon ranch slice! I feel terribly bad for the other reviewers who have zero taste, zero pallet, and gastronomical sense to write a RAVING review of this restaurants exceptional quality of pizza. I like the old man and the son is a good guy too, but twice i went in there at 9PM for slices (not that late for a pizza place), and they were absolutely the worst slices i ever had to eat (endure!). I understand that they keep some slices out, but after a few hours, there is no flavor left at all. On both visits, Leo the owner slid the 2 slices onto a pan for the oven and they looked soggy and so old, flopping onto the pan. I couldn't believe he had the stones to serve them to me!!
