Great and helpful staff! I am a student at University of South Carolina so I was new to finding a pharmacy around the area. Knowing that I would most likely have issues with my insurance and medications at some point I wanted a less corporate pharmacy so I landed on Hawthorne. I'm very glad I chose them! I can only speak on the medications part of the pharmacy not medical equipment, but I have found all the staff to be very helpful and kind. Pharmacist Wesley in particular went above and beyond for about a month long period going between my doctor and insurance company to try and get a copay down. CON: The only downside is that I wish their weekend hours were a little more flexible, but I understand that everyone needs breaks. (Which is why I have not deducted a star for this. It's a pretty normal practice for smaller businesses around here) read more

Totally useless! I was referred to them to purchase a replacement mask for a cpap machine. I went to the shelf to pick out my size but was told by a staff that I needed to wait until a specialist measured me for the mask. I waited about 15 minutes for someone to come out with a piece of paper to measure me. She told me what size to purchase. This was a different size than I had been wearing over the years. When I told her this, she asked if I had been measured in the past. I told her I thought I had but it had been so long ago that I couldn't remember. She assured me that I needed to get the size she recommended. I used the mask for several days but I struggled with it. I thought maybe because it was a new design of mask that I need to work with it more. I kept trying to adjust it and work with it and with in a couple of weeks the seal on it was torn. One night, I woke to find that the mask had come apart. It took me about 20 minutes in the middle of the night to try to put it back together. It struck me that the mask did not fit well. I contacted the store to tell them that I was concerned that this was the wrong size. I was told that there was a 30 day return policy and I was outside of the 30 days. When I explained that their Representative measured me but still sold me the wrong size, I was told that I could come in and they could see what they could do for me but that there was no return after 30 days. I purchased a correct size mask from another vendor. I have not had any problems with it so far. I will not return to this store. A total waste of time and money. read more

I have a hard time understanding why a dedicated pharmacy (not a pharmacy/convenience store) would allow is staff to go without a mask while serving clearly sick patients during a pandemic. read more

If Longs refers you to them- don't listen- the Pharmacist on the phone is awesome! Takes time with you- I have been there on 2 occasions this year, first in January, 2015- at 1st Angie was nice, I had to get braces for knees. She claimed the prescription wasn't right. So, I went & got another, 1st I went back to get my script, and the man wouldn't let me have the paper work with their letterhead on it, so I took my prescription, ,"He said, he didn't trust it leaving there- so i didn't trust leaving my RX there, Angie was in a mood, and had a nasty attitude b/c the paper work was gone. I had fresh paper work to make the Queen happy. After she handed me 200 hundred dollars worth of braces- she just walked off- done deal, no thank you for choosing us. It s Customers that make you have a business! With out customers- you have nothing. Feb 2014- Diabetic shoes- Brad Johnson, good attitude- did measurements, answered questions. I got my shoes in March b/c I have so much Edema, I paid for the shoes- that almost 4 dollar pair of shoes with inserts could have went to another store! After he handed me the shoes, he took off like I was throwing up on him! I never had a chance to ask nothing- upon picking up- and putting on my shoes. See, I have other medical issues- too, and they have needs- but I won't give Angie and Brad money to be rude. These are dummies....I need a chair- it won't be from there, and neither will the wheel chair. I have been in management for years, plus, we had a family business, too. But I was a manager some where else, I never treated any one with such disrespect! The Hawthorne's on Laurel is nicer, I was there in 2007- different last name. Brad and Angie need an umbrella, be cause they are going to drown, from that nose so high up! I would give them an 1/8 of a star if I could! ATTIUDE AND TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN! I'm actually giving this place 0 stars. Not a good experience. First, they called me to say the prescription was ready. When I get there, they have no record of it and we have to call my doctor. It took an hour to resolve things. Then, my insurance had already said they would cover the medicine but then this pharmacy said they wouldn't. So I had to pay for it. Don't believe it if your doctor says this will be easier than CVS or Walgreens. Even compounded medicines can be made elsewhere and sent to your home pharmacy. Next time...live and learn read more

I agree with the man who said they shouldnt get any stars! They have a commercial that shows happy, smiling employees at their West Columbia, SC store on 378. They are shown being caring and helpful! Now for the TRUTH! I was there 3 times, none of those people shown on the commercial were smiling. They are rude and downright HOSTILE! They werent busy so I looked at things waiting for someone to notice me, but they all continued to ignore me. Finally, a woman was at the counter so I gave her my prescriptions. She acted like I asked to borrow $100 when I gave them to her. After I finally got them, I asked her a question about a possible interaction. She asked the pharmacist who acted like it was an ORDEAL to answer! I went back twice more because my insurance said it was a preferred pharmacy. I called them and told them about the treatment I got and they let me go to Walgreens! read more

I stopped by this store for compression hoses. I was greeted really nice. Another person came over and measured me for the hoses. I was quoted a price of $95 for the pair. Mind you there are one pair (2) in each box. I was given paperwork to complete. The lady that measured me came over and said your cost will be $190. I said excuse me? She said the cost is $190. The houses are $95 ea. I said you charge $95 for each house sold in the same box? I reminded her she had quoted me $95 for the pair. She said, my manager said they are $95 each. I kindly told her, your manager cost you a sale. Unbelievable. I found them at another store for half the price of one hose. Shame on you Hawthorne. Never again. read more

BEWARE OF THE TAYLOR STREET LOCATION! I went to pick up my compounded prescription. The associate asked for an ID, I gave her my ID and the $$. She dropped my bag in the drawer and I picked the bag up, opened it and no ID and no change. I rang the bell again and the associate came back. She said, "I forgot to give you your change but your ID was on top of the bag." Only it wasn't! I have had to report my drivers license and my identification as stolen. I had to have a fraud alert placed on my identification. I plan on filing a police report to make sure there is a complaint on file somewhere. I spoke to a manager and she stated that an ID was not needed for my medication. I will never use these people again and I would advise you to BEWARE if you do!! read more

I purchased a head set and mask for my crap today for $120.00 + tax only to come home and find it on Amazon.com for $ 59.50+ tax half price. I called Hawthorn and spoke with a female in the Medical Equipment department and she went on and on about how she could not stay in business trying to compete with the big stores. She kept saying that she could not do this or I can not do that and she is not even the owner or the Purchasing agent come to find out so she was just blowing trailer park smoke up my B_tt. 1st and last time you will get my business. read more
