The only luxurious thing about Hawthorne at the W is the price.
Before I get into the negatives, I should say a few words about the kind, friendly, and helpful staff. Tiffany, Kanita, Ashli, Dean, and Kevin always tried their best to be responsive to our needs.
But that's where the positives end with regard to the complex we eventually came to call "Hawthorne at the WTF." We found HatW to be noisy, badly designed, and sloppily constructed.
Parking was a constant struggle. The complex was built without adequate parking close to building #337, so we were rarely able to park near our apartment. Eventually, the management issued parking tags for vehicles, but they made no serious attempts at enforcement, so we often had to walk past unregistered guest vehicles parked in resident spaces in violation of policy.
But our biggest complaints were with our neighbors. HatW is supposed to be a nonsmoking community, but the grounds were always littered with cigarette butts, and we had to remind other tenants and guests that the designated smoking areas did NOT include the parking lot outside our windows. Many neighbors complained about the smoke that drifted in from neighbors' balconies and patios.
This complex felt more like an overpriced dormitory than luxury apartments. On any warm weekend, the pool area was overrun with dozens of young people we'd never seen before--friends of tenants who disregarded the complex's policies regarding guest use of amenities. Management made no serious efforts to enforce the policies regarding guests.
The shabby construction of the buildings meant that in our River unit on the third floor--the largest, most-expensive two-bedroom plan), anyone sleeping in our guest bedroom was subjected to the sound of other tenants and guests stampeding up and down the noisy staircase right outside.
Why were we sleeping in our guest bedroom? To try to escape the noise from the careless, hyperactive, and probably drug-fueled 24/7 activity of our upstairs neighbor. We documented six months of violations of the complex's quiet hours before the management agreed to let us out of our lease. We wondered why they didn't evict a tenant with so many documented violations--until we learned that the problem tenant in question was related to someone in Hawthorne's corporate management. Nuff said.
If you're looking for a noisy, overpriced, underwhelming experience, check out Hawthorne at the W(TF). If you're looking for real luxury, keep looking.
