Our family did business with this company when we built our house. We purchased our fireplace and…read moregarage doors from them. Our experience with them while we were buying big purchases were good but then 1 year later we had a problem with our garage door not opening due to a recent storm with severe lighting. We live right next to my parents house, not even 30 feet away, and they had the same problem. My husband called the company to request a service call and spoke to Lori, who from the beginning was extremely short and rude with him. Lori said that the service charge is $65 and we asked if they were work with us since both the houses (our house and my parents house) were so close together and had the same the problem. Lori rudely said no and my husband requested to speak a manager or supervisor who my have more pull to make such decisions. The Manager, Jim, also said no to this request (even though we just spent at least $5,000 with them personally and my husband had just used them for a job he did and spend $4,000 not even a month prior to this) and said he couldn't work with us at all. My husband said he was disappointed in this decision but we would still keep our appointment for our house to have a service call that morning at 9:30. 5 minutes later Lori (the rude customer service lady from the beginning of this whole fiasco) called my husband and informed him that she cancelling the service call and we would have to call another company to do the repair work. When my husband called and told me all of this, I personally called and when Lori answered the phone I was very nice and asked to speak to Jim, the Manager. She then said who was speaking and I gave her my first name and then she asked if my husband had just called. I said yes and again asked to speak to the manager. Lori informed me the Manger, Jim, was in a meeting. I asked if there was a better time to call back to reach him. She curtly replied NO. I asked if I could have his voicemail or his extension so I could try to reach. She, again curtly, told me she doesn't give his number out and my only option was to leave a message with her. (the rude lady who I am sure was going to deliver my message) While we did have a positive experience with this company when we purchased our items, it seems like when its a smaller matter like a repair their costumer service leaves a lot to be desired. Or it may be that we crossed paths with 2 individual people who were a EMBRASSMENT to this company (Lori and Jim)

On December 22, 2012 my husband and I bought a small outdoor fireplace from Building Specialities…read moreof Carolina, Inc. We purposely did not purchase from the big box stores because we thought a local business would offer better service. At the time of the purchase everyone we worked with was very helpful and nice. The first fire blistered the paint right off of the spark guard and it started to rust almost immediately. I contacted the store and they ordered me a replacement. When the replacement arrived it was warped and did not properly fit the fireplace. It was also not of the same quality as the first one. I called called Building Specialities again and the manager gave me the information to contact the manufacturer directly. She told told me iron it will rust and that we don't have to use the spark guard. It was obvious to me that the store manager was done with the situation. I know now that the big box competitors would have offered better service after sale for a better price. Building Specialties of Carolina has a no return policy on outdoor items such as these so we are stuck with a sub-standard product.

Last summer, we did end up hiring Albert to fix a leak coming from our bathroom. He seemed very…read morenice on the phone and was very responsive into action. He diagnosed the leak to be coming from the shower pan. As a result, we paid him roughly $11k to completely redo the shower and also remove the shower block windows that appeared to be a secondary leak source discovered after. As we were dealing with the issue remotely, he sent plenty of progress photos and cleaned up after the project well. The problem initially seemed fixed. Unfortunately, the identical leak started again within a year, and we scheduled a date for him to check on the shower but he never made it. We rescheduled for another date but he also failed to show up for that and has ignored our messages to remediate the issue. The problem was either misdiagnosed or incorrectly remediated. Either way, we will have to find another contractor to fix what Albert didn't. Two stars rather than one as he was very pleasant and responsive during the initial project.
