It's difficult to write a review based on a place that's obviously not finished or even close to it. Hawkers Yard is Birmingham first permanent outdoor street food venue. Unlike digbeth dining club it's open every day, which is what we've all wanted ... right?! The location is fantastic and only a few minutes walk from the bullring and right next to the Arcadian in Chinatown. Entry is free and there's roughly 8 different food vendors to choose from. They all rotate monthly from what I hear and will feature some of the midlands best. It was nice seeing such 'vegan grindhouse' on hand which also for me added credibility to the whole outfit. The seating area is very industrial with two floors and is made up of very rustic scaffolding and wood. There are two floors and plenty of seating available. The whole place is drenched with fairy lights so it will be interesting to see what this place looks like in the evenings. Overall a strong preview night, good seating, good food, good location. Another updated review when this bad boy is finished!!

**Ongoing Review** It is hard to judge and review a food market unless you've tried everything, therefore never say never as new things come and go. 1st Visit 09/09/16 Stufo It's showtime! Launch night is in action at the hawker centre and meanwhile it's quiet for now, I know it'll be buzzing later. In terms of layout, the site is still in the same condition as the soft launch. Therefore slightly uneven but none the less, at least all the food has arrived! Stufo was my first destination, something simple and different in the process. What I saw was 2 guys with a big joint of pork belly that was crispy even by smelling and looking at it. A generous cut of pork belly slapped in the middle of 2 thinly sliced ciabatta topped with hot salami pasta, lemon juice and rocket salad. Just wow, for such a simple dish the elements were all spot on. The bread was moist and easy to digest, the pork was perfectly roasted, seasoned and crispy to the paste adding kick and lemon juice and rocket salad to accompany the flavours of the meat. What's even better is the ingredients are locally sourced, these guys are based in Kings Heath and I'm disappointed they haven't got a permanent place to stay yet, they would make n excellent pop up and hope they'll be around for a good while. **** Be sure to keep visiting the hawker yard to discover more! I'll be back every week for sure! Would highly recommend.

** I love this concept and the idea. I am going to revisit this review the more I visit though. ** The first visit was at lunch time and the space was pretty empty with only a handful of people there. But the vendors were still ready to serve us tasty dishes. I went for Dim Sum Su and asked for a dairy free chicken bao. No problem - just had to wait for a dairy free bao to be steamed for me. It was worth the wait as the food was great. We sat downstairs and there was some drizzle. Not that the weather can be helped but I'm glad that I brought a jacket as it got a bit chilly sitting outside. Due to the gravel and uneven ground I recommend not wearing heels and sticking with sturdier footwear choices! Second visit I went to Vegan Grindhouse in the evening time and sat upstairs. There isn't that much seating upstairs but to be honest I wouldn't like it to be too crowded at a height. It felt precarious using the stairs but I think my head for heights is something that needs work. I would like to see the announcements of vendors to be better organised as it's hard to know if all my friends will be catered for if we plan to go along for food and a catch up. So at the moment we are always planning to go but with a plan b up our sleeves in case the weather or the vendors don't suit us. I felt that the plans for this space made it appear larger and more spacious for the crowds enjoying their street food fix. I hope that overcrowding doesn't become a problem as that really would put me off from going.

I love BrumYumYum and the Hawker Yard is just what is needed in our city Different food traders each week and something for everyone. Today we checked out Vegan Sunday and as a true carnivore I tucked into a scrumptious Kottu from Sri- Licious....handmade roti, chopped up and flash cooked with veggies and pineapple a generous portion and the lot was scoffed! They have just kitted out for the winter so seating is undercover and heaters are standing by. Check out these guys, they know what they are doing

Sitting at the top end of Newhall St, and pointing the way to the Jewellery Quarter Mr Bens does a decent range of grub. If it's a jacket spud you're definitely after use the location to your advantage and try this place first. Situated primarily in 'office country' the queues at Mr Bens can be a bit smaller than his competitors, which tend to cater for the shoppers too. The thing I like most about these potatoes is the canny pricing. They make it impossible for you not to fill your spud to bursting point. One filling costs £2.30, whereas you only pay 50p more for 2 fillings. *** A city centre potato and 2 fillings for less than a city centre pint! *** There's plenty of fillings to choose from, but make sure you have the chicken curry regardless of your second choice. Brainchild of Duncan, mastermind behind Brum Yum Yum's various incarnations throughout the city, the Lunchmarket does exactly what it says on the tin. Based in Central Birmingham's "The Square" (by the Oasis Centre), the market brings together some new names and old favorites on the foodie scene to create a chilled out spot for people in the City to grab some top quality grub that doesn't cost the earth. Traders on Friday provided a choice of wood fired pizza, vegan and vegetarian wares, Caribbean treats and a choice of Mexican delicacies to sate the lunch hunger. As well as food, beer and wines were provided in the #Beermarket unit (although it was a bit early for me to partake). The market will now be on every Friday until 1st August and runs from 12pm - 4pm (meaning you can always grab a post work beer if you finish early). Prices for food range from a couple of quid for satay up to £8 for a whole pizza. I chose a hotdog from Vegan Grindhouse which set me back a modest £4.50 with the pound off flyer that was given to me when I got there. There was a great atmosphere when I was there, even if I didn't stick around for too long (I had to run off to another meeting). I am planning to check it out again this week and see what foodie treats are in store in the next installment!

This particular van is situated right on the edge of the market (as you come from the Bullring) and has been a fixture here for many years. On many occasions I have passed by this little van and smelt their delicious wares tickling my nostrils, but not being one to grab breakfast out very often I have resisted it's temptations. That was until this morning where the temptation proved too strong and I had to give their "£2 breakfast bap with tea or coffee" deal a go. I do love bacon and all things cholesterol-y, but as I am trying to watch my weight (an impossible feat), I chose to go for egg and mushroom on my bap. The fantastic member of staff that served me was friendly, smiley, helpful and chatty when taking my order and whilst I was waiting. The coffee was your standard fare, but surprisingly good (I was expecting some awful mellowbirds) and very hot. The mushrooms tasted mushroomy and fresh. The egg was cooked right then and there and was fried to perfection. To my surprise it wasn't too greasy at all and the white was cooked through whilst the yolk was dippable (yes, I may have invented another word). I chose to sat underneath their small awning area and enjoy my breakfast in the sunshine. The other clientele was a mix of construction workers on their morning break, early shoppers grabbing a quick bite to eat before hitting the Bullring and some people who (like me) looked like they just fancied a bite to eat in the morning. If, like me, you are a regular at the market; give it a go. Its cheap, good food served with a smile. You won't be disappointed.

They have a very sweet bespoke van decorated in a Mexican theme, so are immediately noticeable. As you would expect from the name they sell a selection of burrito's and Nacho's (with multiple different toppings and heat levels). I will admit, I haven't had a burrito from these guys yet; but I did try the nacho's at a recent Brum Yum Yum Streetfood event near Kings Heath. First thing of note, a tray of regular nachos was £3.50. Very reasonable (when you note that at Streetfood events, it's not uncommon to spend £7 - £8 on a burger). They had plenty of toppings and the guacamole was especially fresh and tasted homemade. Unfortunately, the corn chips were quite bland and this took the whole experience down somewhat. The Mega nachos were massively covered in toppings and looked like a feast! The Burrito's look pretty tasty and fresh with everything being made to order. A regular burrito was, again, about £5 - £6 which isn't bad value considering the rising prices at events. They use a local brand of hot sauce and had a good selection of meats (pulled pork, chicken etc) and salsa, guacamole and vegetables. **As an addition to the review, I have been advised that Mexican Bean buy fresh chillies and smoke them themselves to make up 3 levels of intensities.** The staff are smiley and friendly, but the whole experience was a OK... but nothing special. I will give them another go and try a burrito next time, maybe that will hike up the star rating... watch this space!
