Brandon nomming on a glazed donut burger by The Original Patty Men, Digbeth Dining Club

DDC has kind of been my obsession since I moved to Birmingham. I go all the time, and I've never been disappointed with food from any of the wonderful vendors, and am always eager to try out new ones. I've found everything to be incredibly good value for money. There's always a good range of options- from pizza to burgers to BBQ to Thai to Caribbean, with new businesses popping up regularly. The music varies from week-to-week-- usually there are DJ sets and occasionally live music. It can be hit or miss depending on your tastes, but in my opinion the real reason to go to Digbeth Dining Club is for the food! The only problem with the event is its awkward arrangement across Spotlight & Next Door, which have incredibly limited seating (neat sofas though, if you're lucky enough to get one). The event gets quite packed, the queues get quite long, and some of the food can be difficult to eat while standing. My advice: get there early! Grab a bite when the queues are short, then head to the bar and stay for the music and ambiance.

After hearing about digbeth dining club from several people me and some friends ventured down there for a friday evening and I have to say it is well worth a visit and I will be going back! Located in digbeth next to the custard factory and behind the old crown pub it is quirky and fun without being overly pretentious. The concept of street food in a courtyard behind Whay is a very cool bar works very well and does mean it gets busy but with a relaxed atmosphere the queues do move quickly and the biggest difficult you will have is deciding what to have. I opted for a south African curry served inside a hollowed out loaf of bread with other friends having sourdough pizza and another having Indian. All the food was great quality and excellent value (expect to pay £5-8 per main, but bring cash for the food stalls) and be warned you can't always get a seat so be prepared to stand and eat. The bar itself is cool and has a great selection of draught beer and ale and well worth hanging around for a drink! It genuinely is a great way to spend a friday night!

So, on Friday I had my first foray into the world of DDC... As you approach the venue (it's near Air nightclub) you will first smell the scent of delicious food wafting over you. As you get closer, you will start to hear the pounding beats and the excited chatter of people. When you finally get to the gates (it's quite an unassuming entrance), you will be party to the experience that is DDC. The bar does a selection of cocktails (about 8 different types from memory) and has drinks offers regularly. On the night I went, it was 2 selected bottles of beer for £5 - so not too bad. A double and mixer wasn't particularly cheap at £5, but it doesn't strike me as the kind of place you would go every week. The food selection was varied in both type and price. Starting with delicious toasties for £4 and MAHOOSIVE Hotdogs (£5 for a feast) - the price went right up to £10 for a Carribbean or Indian selection. I went for a mixed Carribbean plate and was treated to rice and pea, mutton curry, jerk chicken and dumpling. After I had finished the vendor was horrified she had forgotten to give me any veg - but I couldn't eat another thing anyway! The music started with some chilled out trance and electronica, but later into the night got more soul, hip hop and R'n'B based. The venue has a brilliant underground feel and is just perfect for the event. The night can get really busy. Depending on what you are looking for - later on is good for drinks, but get there early for the best food!

Digbeth Dining Club is the place to be on a Friday night. It's helped put Digbeth on the map for that after work Friday social, where usually the City Core would reign. However if you want freshly made, prepared in front of you and unique combinations for food and flavour, why would you go anywhere else? Every Friday from 5-late a different selection of street food vendors bring their tasty treats for us to indulge in. A mixture of sweet, savoury, meat and vegetarian there is always usually something for everyone. Be warned, this place can get extremely busy, especially on payday Friday. Get there early as possible to not be disappointed by long queues and food selling out. Also, be aware that the drinks here aren't cheap, but the Digbeth street food experience is worth it. It certainly beats some chain restaurant serving microwave food or a bar full of suits.

The digbeth dining club is my place to go every Friday night after work.. Its a great retreat for food lovers like myself. Your bound to get a good foodie treat here by the stall vendors offering delights from Caribbean to indian.. From lush waffles to gourmet Burger's. There is something to suit every pallette. The music is fairly good and varies from weekly I think they have a guest DJ spinning a few tracks which keeps it fun week after week. They do occasionally have live gigs and soon they will be having an outdoor cinema which launches in June 2015. The music in my opinion is good background music which uplifts the atmosphere especially after a busy Friday day/ or a busy working week. This place can get pretty busy.. But queue's start dying down around 9pm and I believe around 9.30pm is the best time to queue up for food as vendors are more likely to give u extra freebies.. Extra portions and discounts being towards the end of the night. We all love a bargain or FREE food! :) Drinks from the spotlight bar next door are reasonably priced but can get expensive if ur buying round after round. Its a fairly nice chilled and relaxed atmosphere inside with dim lighting, good music by a live DJ and has comfy sofas but be quick and early to bag one. Otherwise there is plenty of seating next-door. DDC is a hidden gem.. If you haven't been tell all your friends and get yourself there its a guaranteed good meal!

Visted digbeth dinning club after being invited to an event hosted by yelp. I had previously visited this venue before as a night club, must say how different it looked. Upstairs was a nice area for the yelp community decorated in an intriguing manor which I loved. There was a selection of 5-6 different food vans found it hard to choose from so many. Me and my partner decided to share I choose a marinated chicken in a Greek pitta with salad which was really good. The only bit I wasn't keen on was the tzatziki and Thani sauce which really wasn't to my taste but my partner liked. He had the special all pig pizza and wow was this special friendly service and fast service. The pizza omg was mouth watering delicious heaven of fast food pizzas, so glad we shared. Really enjoyed digbeth dinning heard its on most weeks and they change the food stands so can't wait to go back and try more.

Have visited Digbeth Dining club (including their Kings Heath takeovers) loads of times and it is always great. It's a brilliant way of trying some new dishes without breaking the bank. Everything is prepared fresh in front of you and there is always an interesting array of cuisines. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. I definitely recommend coming here on a Friday night with a group of friends.

Digbeth is one of the areas of Birmingham driving a revolution of independent thinkers, artists, and merchants that are creating a new image of the second city. This image is sticking to the industrial working class roots of brum while largely free of the cookie cutter experiences found elsewhere. A social nexus of this new Birmingham is the Digbeth Dining Club, a weekly street-food/food truck festival. The dining club brings together the best street food vendors from greater Birmingham and the West Midlands, and matches it up with a bar and live music. In the states, street food and food trucks are an every day occurrence, where restaurants pop-up on the street, food trucks corral into a rodeo, and roads are shut down for festivals. So it's nice to see the local purveyors of indie culture concentrated in an easy to access area every Friday evening. Google maps can be a bit difficult (my first trip here took me through the Custard Factory), but the easiest way to get there is to go down Heath Mill Ln from the Digbeth High Street (passing the Old Crown pub), and you'll see and smell the vendors to your right before you go under the viaduct. There is also another entrance on the other side of the tracks at Lower Trinity St if you are arriving from the north. Doors open at the Spot*light at 5pm and food is served by 5:30. There are table tops outside for a quick bite, but if plan on staying, head inside under the viaduct and grab a plush couch before the place gets packed at 6. The vendors here vary from week to week (check out the dining club's website or FB page for up to date listings), but it's a guarantee that you'll find at least one vendor serving up a type of cuisine you adore. For people like me, most vendors offer at least one vegetarian specific entree. On a recent visit, I had the opportunity to choose between pizza, tacos, noodles, and waffles. I'm not willing to divulge how many of those I indulged, but let's just say I didn't need to eat again until Sunday. My best advice is to enjoy and pace yourself on your first visit, because many of these vendors will show up at least once a month. You can also catch many of them at Brum Yum Yum in King's Heath. There are two bars set inside, with a fairly standard selection of beers, and a full liquor bar. I would love to see the club expand the beer selection to include more craft beer/real ale given the growth of the local beer scene. At a nascent three years of age, the Digbeth Dining Club has already done some very big things for the quality of life in this city. You can easily start and end your night at the club, or use it as a launching pad to talk football down the street at the Forge or appease your Peaky Blinders fandom across High Street at the Spotted Dog. What better exemplifies the new and the old Birmingham than scarfing down an artery clogging burger with a side of waffles while washing it down with a beer or two?

As one of the volunteers at the JQNF who arrange 24 Carrots, I love seeing new traders at our market. When I spotted Flying Cows on the list of people coming down - I was both intrigued and excited. Although they have appeared at super popular streetfood events across Birmingham, I hadn't come across them before. I decided to take a gamble last night and give them a try for my dinner. From the moment I walked over to Dan, I knew it was the right choice. After I had placed my order (beef burger with stilton - £4), Dan explained that it would take around 5 minutes to cook. This wasn't a problem as we filled the time talking about how he got started in the burger business and what was different about his food. Honestly, if you ever get a chance to chat to him - do! He's a lovely chap. My burger looked amazing! Unfortunately I ate it before I thought about getting a picture, however, it was meaty, cheesy and just fantastic. The bun was soft, the meat tasted and looked fresh and the cheese was the perfect accompaniment. It was one of the best burgers I have had in Birmingham (and I've tried most of the greats). Dan is relatively new on the scene, but he will be a big name before long. Check him out now (and have a natter) before he gets to the point where there are queues forming around the block!

The Bond is an events and conferencing space which backs on to the canal on Fazeley Street. There is a £2 charge to get in, with 50p off if you have an Independent Birmingham card. Some markets are bigger than others, sadly today's Summer market wasn't one of the big ones (probably as Brum Yum Yum is also on today in Kings Heath). There was still a really good choice of food and drink on offer, but as usual I was drawn to the wonderful Buddha Belly who do the best Thai food I've had outside Thailand. I had a selection of their dishes including spicy veggie noodles with crispy chicken and Thai green curry all of which were delicious. There are always so many wonderful cakes on offer, this time I opted for a beautiful lemon drizzle cake from Peel and Stone. As the name…read moresuggests, there are 4 of these markets a year (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter) held at the Bond Co in Digbeth. There is a small fee for entry (£1.50 for Winter) and there are Street food traders, crafts and locally produced food stalls, music being played out over the course of the day and a beer bus (to keep you hydrated as you wander round). Firstly, the Bond is a great venue for an event of this nature. With indoor and covered spaces, even if the weather isn't on your side (which, thankfully, it was on Saturday) you can still grab some delicious food and eat it without being soaked in a Birmingham style downpour. The choice of streetfood was fantastic. From the award winning "Rootz" (Caribbean) and "Buddha Belly" (Thai) to "Meat Shack" (burgers) and the "Bournville waffle company" (to name a few), there really is something for everyone. Inside the covered area you could grab beautiful pies, cheeses and cakes from top Brum bakery "Peel & Stone". We had enjoyed a hearty breakfast before our trip, so didn't partake of anything too substantial on the day but did pick up some delicious bread pudding from "Peel & Stone" to enjoy later. Inside the venue, the selection of handmade arts and crafts was fantastic. We found ourselves drawn to "Working Clasp" (lasercut jewellery), "Sparrow & Wolf" (fabulous notebooks and cards) and "Broquet" (who offer bespoke beer buckets as presents). I also managed to get some lovely presents for people from other stalls, meaning a lot of my Christmas shopping was done in one fell swoop. The beer bus is a fantastic addition to this venue. A kitted out red double decker, this "bar on wheels" was serving a lot of different ales as well as hot mulled cider. The guys from the market had even installed a snow machine at the entrance, meaning you got a little extra festive cheer as you entered the market. I could have spent a good day here. As it happened, I DID spent a fair amount of money in the hour we dropped by, but that was down to the amazing traders and the selection of goods they had on offer (as well as my lack of willpower). I came away with craft beers, greetings cards, jewellery and cake. Next time I am planning to spend a whole afternoon here. I recommend you get down too!
