They've actually got Snowdonia Cheese Company Amber Mist! Whenever SCC cheeses are sold there's usually plenty of their Black Bomber, but I find Amber Mist is quite hard to get hold of. It's the best Whisky cheese, in my opinion. (And that's including anything available at Farmer's Markets in Scotland...) So I'm having a truckle of that, and I'm committed to being disciplined enough to save it for Christmas. What else? After I've had short rave, the owner can see that I'm quite keen on the yellow stuff, so she offers me a sample of Harlech. Just when you think you've tasted and seen all the cheese in Europe, there are still surprises left. This is cheddar with horseradish and parsley. Cheese AND condiment. My two favourite foods in one make me buy a few hundred grams of this. It's going to be perfect on top of a veggie pattie to make a piquant burger. Next up is Worcerster Hop. I've had Hereford Hop before, so I'll trust that Elgar County's version is similarly tasty. Always a good match for a US India Pale Ale. The last two didn't last long, though the Amber Mist is sat in a scared space in the fridge. I'll be back at Cheese to Please to stock up for Christmas. Independent with a charming owner, here you'll find tasty delights beyond the usual supermarket fare. Discover a world beyond Wensleydale and Cranberry this Christmas. If there is something that takes your fancy or you just need a hand choosing your latest and greatest cheese board. It's not the biggest shop in the world but sometimes good things come in small packages. Prices are middle of the road to high but you get what you pay for. It's always nice to get some good cheese and this is a great place to fulfil that need.

Needing some lunch to share with colleagues recently we visited and picked up some wonderful food. The best thing we tried was definitely the salad boxes loaded with plenty of delicious cheese and cold meats for around £4 each. They have a very good selection of takeaway food. They stock lots of Italian style preserves, dry foods and olive oils. We also enjoyed some of their Italian biscuits and they stock lots of after dinner goodies. They serve excellent coffee, to stay or go. The staff were very friendly, patient and helpful as we made our choices. If you are looking for something special as a gift or a nice treat for lunch this place is perfect.

This little corner of Bristol Road is currently under a surge or new businesses and Quarter Horse…read moreCoffee seemingly has come out of nowhere to add to this strip, just a stones throw away from the Pagoda. Quarter Horse is based from Oxford and the Birmingham branch is it's sister shop. The space here is vast with huge ceilings and windows at the front and back of the shop coupled with minimalist furniture, there is plenty of seating and will be very exciting to see all these full once the name of Quarter Horse name gets out to Birmingham. I enjoyed a silky latte this morning which was excellent in taste and kept me warm from the wet weather outside. QH are using Round Hill coffee beans at the moment which is a welcome change from the many other fine coffee shops in Birmingham. At the moment, QH is limited to hot drinks (they opened 2 days ago) so it will be interesting to see what food and other additions QH will provide over the coming weeks and really develop into a place with its own identity. But what is extremely exciting for coffee buffs is that on one side of the shop, a new roaster is going to be installed within the next 2 weeks! First in Birmingham! I'm sure I am not the only person who is thrilled at this prospect and cannot wait to see this in action. I have been to many coffee shops in London where this set up works very effectively so this will certainly be something Brummies can be proud of.
