Potentially racist encounter here. I would like a refund. Full experience below…read more I brought my bike up to the office and she insisted it wouldn't be stolen if I left it outside the door. She was so preoccupied about how much time this would take for me to find a bike rack downstairs due to "back to back" appointments. Why the f**k would I trust her word regarding the safety of my precious bike. After suggesting I come back another day, guilting me into "I drove here for you," and saying she called her next appointment to push to 9:40am (she did not since I was in front of her the whole time) ontop of me being desperate after a bad week, I suggested to put the bike inside her office which she agreed to. Looking back, I should've left because the purpose is to heal and how can I with this energy. And so begin the awkward convo about why I wanted acupuncture. She couldnt understand or pick up much of what I was saying due to lack of English so things I said I had to repeat or she didnt hear at all. Never go to a doctor that doesn't know your language fluently because then how are they supposed to treat you? Overall it was a quick 20-30 min acupuncture in a dark tight silent room. Shortest session I've ever had but she insisted "it's not about the time, it's about the results." Stayed on the table beyond my appointment time since she said her next appointment that she was preoccupied about "cancelled." She also mentioned right off the bat that she only accepted cash, which was not communicated when I booked the appt. The length of session was also not communicated prior. Anyways, if I had to run and go get cash, this would've been another reason she would've suggested "I come back another day." On top of that she didnt have full change so I get the vibe she was lying about the card machine not working...racism? Maybe but looking back on this, it seemed she was lying about many things and searching for any reason to not treat me. A waste of $75, but actually $77 since she didnt have enough change. Offered $2 off in next visit but I won't be returning. I would love a refund.

Not very professional! Bouncing back between rooms. Didn't do the true acupuncture. Gave no relief.read more

While going through the exam doctor explained everything and new exactly what areas needed to be worked on and how to get me feeling better again. I began to think of it is "I guess I'm just getting older and this is what happens." Knowing that I'd had some success with chiropractors for back issues and that they also do more general structural alignment work, I booked a session at Back to Basics Chiropactors in Keaau. I saw Dr. Nolan, a fairly new chiropractor who had assisted the founder, Dr. Benjamin, in my first session with them 8 months ago. After a fairly comprehensive verbal checkup with his assistant Dr. Nolan came in and threw me around for 20 minutes, massaged my hips and glutes, and had me do a bunch of diagnostics. Even at the end of the session it seemed like my pain and sensitivity had diminished quite a bit. And that day walking around it felt way better. Now, 9 days later, I went for my first run since the session and I feel like I'm 98% healed. Remarkable! Highly recommend these guys if you have alignment/core issues. Definitely made me feel better physically and mentally realizing that some things that we may accept as natural aging issues don't have to be permanent.

I'm new to the area, and was pretty bummed to leave a great team of integrative medicine folks in…read morethe SF Bay Area. After 3+decades of pretty intense athletic adventures, I originally called Heather for help with some niggling physical stuff (plantar fasciitis, hamstring tendinitis, a grumpy shoulder) and also some deeper, systemic stuff I was experiencing (which later turned out to be a thyroid and adrenal issue.) I have experience with several different types of Accupuncture- and on our first call Heather let me know that her method might be different from what I was used to. She emphasized that she uses a subtle, systemic rebalancing approach - and that while we would work on my specific issues, it might be a different process than I was used to. The truth is, I've never found two practitioners to be the same, and part of what I find so effective about accupuncture is that each practitioner has a framework that speaks to their own experience and their energy- at best it's a partnership where their methods, training and energy meet my present circumstances and behaviors, and the healing happens somewhere in the middle. That's what I've found here. In my life, accupuncture with heather is an important part of what I'm doing to feel better - in addition to working with a naturopathic doc and doing physio. Bodies take maintenance- we live in them every day- and working with Heather has helped not just the acute physical injuries, but also feels like it's gradually helping restore some of the general sense of wellness I've been lacking. I really love that Heather offers in-home treatment. Facing health challenges is an incredibly vulnerable, emotional process - and I couldn't have a better partner in what is definitely a journey toward feeling like myself again. Heather holds space for not just the physical healing, but also creates a safe container for talking thru - and feeling - the more emotional side of the process. Her vast technical expertise is matched her kindness. I'm grateful to Heather (and Yelp!) for walking with me thru what has been a wildly challenging wellness year.
