For starters I went first class. Seating was comfortable. Stewards were nice and accommodating. I did notice food crumbs built up in center console but I don't think many people actually know that it opens up as a storage console. It pays to use your CC for miles. I appreciated being able to get my boarding pass and checked bags taken care of as soon as I arrived. The self-service kiosks were helpful and easy to use, although the machine we chose ran out of paper, so we had to finish the process with an agent. Thankfully, the agent who assisted us had a positive and upbeat attitude and quickly helped us get our bag tags sorted out. As for the flight itself, there's not much to add: it was smooth and efficient. They got the job done. read more

This company deserves to go out of business for their lack of professionalism and service. I am coming back from my honeymoon I am at the Lihue airport when the intercom is asking for volunteer check ins to help mitigate the overbooked flight and for the excess guests luggage. After the bumpy flight I go to baggage claim at turnstile # 4 at oak airport and I see my bag slide down hard case shattered and 2 wheels are broken off and a mysterious liquid all over it. My suitcase definitely did not look like that prior to checking it. There's no chance they would've loaded it on like that if I requested to check it. Someone threw it on the belt and hid the broken pieces and missing wheels and sprayed something on it before putting it on the line. Tons of witnesses at baggage claim but no employees around to help mitigate the issue, had to leave as my ride from oak was waiting 45 minutes. Filed a report immediately in the car. One other thing is I packed a souvenir glass I purchased while in hanalei, as I opened my suitcase to inspect, the irreplaceable souvenir unless I went back to Kauai is shattered in the middle of all my clothes ruining all my clothes leaving shattered bits of glass everywhere and now I'm worried about my dog and family stepping on broken bits of glass. This is the first time and last time I take Hawaiian airlines and Alaskan airlines as this ruined my first experience in Hawaii and my honeymoon. This is the first time using Hawaiian Airlines. I got an Alaska Airlines Credit Card (which owns HA) so I can collect points traveling to Maui. First, I used the Alaska CC to buy my ticket which should have allowed me to a free bag but they charged me $40 to check my bag. Second, I paid $60 for a preferred seat which I thought meant more leg room only to find it meant closer to the front. So I paid $60 to move 10 feet further up in the plan for the same cramped legroom. What a joke. A better explanation would have helped me pay a little more for better leg room for a 5 1/2 hour flight. All I got told was call customer service, we can't help you. This sucks. read more

Alaska acquired Hawaiian after we had booked our flight to Maui. Schedule changed a few times because of the merger- had them transfer us to a flight closer than the original, no big deal. However, I talked to Matthew on 5/13 @2145 who assured me that they don't do seat assignments until 48 hours before but that Hawaiian airlines is committed to not having minors sit next to strangers and to call ahead. Fast forward to 24 hours before my flight, 2 phone calls and a chat with an agent because ALL 4 OF US WERE ASSIGNED IN DIFFERENT ROWS. Long story short: my 12 year old and 16 year old daughters are NOT considered children. Beware parents: they only consider 7 years and below to be children. So your 8 year old, 9 year old kids, etc. Hawaiian does NOT care about their safety. Or consider your anxiety prior to leaving on a flight that some molester could have unmitigated access to your child. We had been receiving emails saying we could "pay for an ungrade!" which felt like a hostage situation so that our children could safely fly to our vacation destination. Concerned enough to literally pay hundreds of additional dollars to ensure my girls safety I was ready to pay the hostage ransom. EXCEPT that Hawaiian air said they were minors and NOT allowed to pay for those seats to sit together. Interesting- not young enough to guarantee that we can sit together, but also not old enough to sit in the pay-for-more seats. Basically, we received no customer service. I offered to drive the hour to the airport because that is where the customer service 800 number said will be able to assist me tomorrow morning. She did not recommend but said I should go tomorrow 3 hours before the flight, but there are not guarantees. The customer service people were polite, they are only doing their job but this airline's policies regarding seating, especially with kids under 18, is abhorrent, reeks of willful neglect or prioritization of safety of children and creates a lot of undo stress prior to going on vacation. Thanks for ruining the start of our family vacation Hawaiian Airlines. We go to the islands every year, this was our first time flying with you and will be our last. read more

It surprises me that the ratings are so low for this airline. On the contrary to most patrons reviews on Yelp, I actually had a pleasant experience and by far think this is one of the best U.S airline carrier. Firstly, the seats are large and spacious compared to other aircrafts. Also, they serve complimentary food throughout the entire flight! This is a meal service, snacks, and chocolate for dessert. There are FEW airline carriers that still serve meals for the main cabin. I thought service was great and they were very attentive. Additionally, the aircraft was clean and not outdated. I used to give a three star review just for arriving in one piece, but no more. I spent my time on this flight, five hours and no gluten free foods except for an $8 snack box. Not enough for a meal and really a waste. It featured olives, which were OK, but I was starving so there's that. Then there were the crackers, which weren't the ones on the advert (the ones that I like). They were "different" and a bit hard, but I was starving, so I ate them. A cheese product that wasn't cheese but a creamy, off-white substance, I ate it. And then salami. None of these items looked as hearty and robust as they did in the advert. Five hours and a wheat filled chicken pocket. OK, not good. And the cookie, Wow cookies are gross. They are soft and sweet and were created for losers. Then there's the flight. Even though we're told that we have to wear masks, people took the masks off pretty early into the flight. I was sitting next to a cougher, who magically stopped coughing once I moved. My husband was sitting in front of another cougher, who coughed the whole flight. I moved because there were a lot of seats and when I pulled down the tray for the seat next to me, there was a big cheeto looking piece of orange grossness staring at me. I just wanted a place to put my Kindle while I opened my small disappointing box of not-joy, but that grossed me out. It didn't fall down, it just stayed there. I checked later on and it was still fused in place. Clearly, somebody missed cleaning this and has probably been missing it for a while. Now, the review above was for the flight. Let me now review the company, as I had to call them four times before my flight. 1) I called to ask about traveling with my CPAP. I've had one for 20 years, but this was my first trip with it. I got two different answers as to whether or not I could travel with it. a) Person A said that she found my brand on the list - but I accidentally hung up as she was putting a note on my account Apparently, she didn't do this because... b) Person B read me the whole list of approved devices and mine wasn't on this list. He then said that I couldn't bring it. I told him about the conversation above and he said that he would transfer me to a supervisor and he did. c) Person C said that I could bring it bout it counted as my luggage and I had to pay for it. However... None of that was true. They actually have a note for CPAP machines going through the TSA line. My husband carried it and walked into the luggage check and onto the plane like a boss. It was fine! Now the review above was for the flight and the food, but now, let's talk about buying my ticket! It just gets "better" from here. 1) I went online and found four-six times, with the latest departure from Oakland being at 10:20 am. I wanted to know what the later departure times were. a) I called and asked the woman about the afternoon departure times. My concern is that the time I was supposed to be at the airport, was the same time that BART starts running on Sunday mornings! Thanks BART! So, I wanted to catch something at 11 or 12. I called. I had a hard time communicating with the person on the line, not because her English was bad, but she said that she'd look up flights and wanted to give me the times. I just wanted to see them myself, so I could see the times, the connecting flights, and get a sense of what the different arrival/departure times would be. I went onto the site with my chromebook, my pc, my mac, my ipad and my phone and I got the same page with the same crappy times. The agent eventually said - Philippines. I let her know that I had no idea why she said that. I just wanted to know how to access the other times at a lull in our super long conversation she hung up! B..$%! b) I called back and recapped my conversation and was eventually put on with a manager who told me that there were only four flight times because they only had those times available. Really?!? The first person could have said that directly! But she didn't. I thought my computer was too old, it turns out that they don't have flights after 10:20 am, which I will never understand! So, imagine the time I've spent writing about this. All of this time trying to get the info I needed. Now add to that the time that I had to wait for an agent. I will call and ask for a gluten free meal on the way back, in the past, I've gotten baked goods and snacks locally and walked on with them. But I didn't have time this time, so... This review is for the checkin & boarding process from OAK to honolulu. The whole experience can be discribed by 1 word: chaotic, inefficient, ill-conceived, poorly-executed, deceiving, frustrating & bloody disastrous. We already had the QR code, already uploaded test result onto website. How much more prepared can you be? We checked in on line within 24 hr but it wont allow us to pick seats, no prob. So we woke up at rooster hours & arrived at airport @6 am for our 8:30 flight. When we approached the counter, a gentleman in Hawaiian shirt told us to go straight to the gate instead where everything will be "taken care off", no prob. Off we went, whisked through securities in high spirits & arrived at the gate, no agents were there, huh? It wasn't until about 1.5 hr prior to take-off the agents arrived. After we jostled for positions & formed line, she told us to return to our seats & wait for our parties to be called 1 by 1 for seat assignment, huh?? 30 min later they announced that we can form a line at the opposite gate for COVID screening & get a wrist band, this will expedite our entry into Hawaii upon landing. Suddenly we were acutely aware that some other passengers already had pink wrist bands, where/how/when did they get it??? One of them informed us they got the wrist band down stairs, huh??? How come they didnt offer us that option at the entrance counter, 1.5 hr ago? By this time my aloha spirit was spiraling south. I asked them again if/when they will assign seats, they said "still working on it", huh? Its 15 min to boarding time. Meanwhile i saw other passengers continuously went up to the counter & paid for upgrade to extra leg room seats. Now we know why they were still "working" on the seat assignments. While we were still at the slow moving wrist band line, they called our name overhead. So we gave up our spots in the wrist band line & drag our luggage back to the counter to finally receive our seat assignment. They also told us to board now, but what about that wrist band? We decided instead to return to the previous wrist band line. But shortly after they abruptly halted the wrist band shenanigans as it was time for general boarding. Thus half of those poor souls who stood in line for 30 min never got that elusive wrist band, which meant we had to wait in line again upon arrival at HNL. One saving grace was that at least they assigned our seats next to each other, for a while i had my doubts. All the while we felt like uninformed lambs being misled by equally uninformed shephards. This is a review of the customer service at Hawaiian. I've not really had any problems with the flights themselves. I had to cancel a 2020 trip to Australia due to the pandemic. I probably called and emailed Hawaiian's customer service 15-20 times over a three year period to try and use my flight credits to take a later flight to anywhere Hawaiian flew. The primary problem was that Hawaiian Airlines refused to give me a full credit for my cancelled flights. I had decided it was safer due to the pandemic to fly to Hawaii. Hawaiian repeatedly told me that they would assign my credit from my cancelled Australia flights to my Hawaii trip, but I would lose the difference in price between the Australia flights and the Hawaii flights. It took years of calls to Hawaiian to get them to give me full credit for two subsequent round trip flights to Hawaii using my credits from my more expensive Australia flights. It's not clear to my why Hawaiian changed their mind after three years and let me use all of the credits I had coming to me due to my cancelled Australia flights. It could be that Hawaiian's policies changed over time. What really upset me was that their customer service could never explain anything very clearly, and on many occasions, they just hung up on me. I suspect that during the pandemic, Hawaiian was overwhelmed with calls to customer service and many of the employees just hung up on people when they couldn't adequately respond to their customer's problems, so they could try to respond to other customers who had been on hold for a really long time. The employees seemed to be very poorly trained and unfamiliar with their company policies. Hopefully, things have gotten better over time. But they've lost me as a customer for life. read more

Horrible. Never flying with them again. Booked our tickets and seats months before - only to discover myself (through downloading the app) that they took away my seat reservation and didn't notify me or give me a comparable one. I had booked a whole row for my family and I in "comfort plus." When I called to find out what happened and fix my seat, they said they needed my seat for an "operational" reason and the rep said he wasn't surprised that I wasn't notified. They proceeded to "fix" my missing seat by giving me my moms seat but of course I didn't realize that until I hung up, so I had to call back again and find my mom and others new seats next to each other. At that point they were out of comfort plus seats but they couldn't refund me, upgrade mw, or offer me any drink tickets or anything to fix their mistake. Then we finally get on the flight and both departing and returning flights were not window seats, even thought every representative we spoke to (including those at the gate) said they were. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because of the convenient flight times and free Mai tai. Never again. Back to Southwest for me. read more

Hawaiian Airlines First Class: My family and I flew first class from Oakland airport direct to Lihue, Kauai. I wish I can say the price was worth it but I'm really on the fence. I was looking forward to these seats they advertised as flat laying back like a bed. It's one of the reasons why I bought these tickets. I wanted to lay flat, take a long nap, and wake up in Kauai. I learned that apparently not all flights offer that. So we got stuck with over size leather lounge chairs that slightly inclines. Bummer! I was really shocked that they offer No WIFI. That's crazy!! Even Southwest Airlines offers this. Instead, they offer first class passengers an iPad where you can watch movies. We took a morning flight so I was looking forward to some brunch, eggs and potatoes like they show in the First Class advertisement trailer. Nope , didn't get that. We had to choose from meatloaf or vegetable lasagna, I don't eat red meat, so vegetable lasagna was my only option. I would give it 5 out of 10, nothing to write home about. Open Bar: You can pretty much order what you want. I was enjoying unlimited Mai Tais. Drinks were coming before you even finished your drink. Travel Agents: The travel agent was always smiling and pretty much at your beck and call. We were a group of 9 so my family kept that poor guy busy. Lol. But he got a good tip at the end. It was fun flying first class with family, but if you are flying by yourself and another person, I would recommend just buying premium seats. These are right behind first class and significantly cheaper. Unless , they offer lie flat seats on all their flights, I won't fly again. Their website is on first class seats is very misleading. Ground Crew = efficient baggage handling In flight Crew = EXCELLENT customer service EVEN BEFORE TAKE OFF Here are a few things I've seen on my journey in and out of OAK on Hawaiian but one particular experience is heartwarming: Okay- we all heard of flight delays right? As passengers, we don't know why or how long the delay will be... all we know is WE ARE DELAYED. Many passengers travel for business in which case, a delay could become very costly. Many passengers travel for pleasure and vacation in which case a delay would be humbug and inconvenient. Many passengers travel for pleasure with family and little children in which case, it would be humbug, inconvenient and emotionally taxing as children tend NOT TO BE PATIENT. So- this one visit and this one delay: Hawaiian Gate Reception and their managers bring a cart of snacks and beverages to appease the delayed passengers (a nice touch). They proceed to explain the delay and they inform the passengers they delay may be an extended delay (by hours) but "please try to be patient as they bring in another aircraft to get us to our destination...." in the mean time, "have some snacks .... play some cards... (they gave us each a deck of cards to amuse ourselves) And for the anxious children.... the flight attendants proceed to dance the hula and request children participation... So how's that? They tell the children to "practice the hula now...before going to Hawaii... so they will be best children hula dancers..." We were delayed for 3 hours with no screaming kids, no impatient adults, no attitude.... Here comes our aircraft.... we board with children with leis, adults with potato chip crumbs on their face and decks of cards strewn all over the floor at the gate area as we .... orderly get to our seats and eventually to our destination. Kudos to the Oakland staff for knowing how to handle a couple hundred delayed children and adults. read more

We booked our Hawaiian vacation through Hawaiian airlines (vacation) and the morning at 1am before our departure they cancelled our flight without reason. Needless to say we had to jump on the phone immediately for 3-hours, talked to 3-4 personnels to rebook our departure which ended up leaving from a different airport, 1-stop in Maui for 4-hours and then to our destination of Honolulu. Hawaiian Airlines is my favorite airline. Besides their outstanding rewards program, their customer service is top notch. It seems like the Aloha Spirit is a job requirement. Yesterday, I arrived after boarding time and missed the flight to Honolulu because I was at the wrong airport. The Ticketing Agent, Sherrie, was helpful, calm, competent, and really went out of her way to help me get home. This morning, when I checked in on Stand by status, Justin said, "It happens", and made me feel better. He gave an example of another passenger who thought that San Francisco and Oakland were the same! I just thought San Jose and Oakland were the same! LOL! Hawaiian Airlines is one of the only airlines that continues to serve a hot meal during the flight. The newer planes have ports for you to charge your electronic devices! On the Red Eye flights, you'll get a pillow and blanket. If you're on a day time flight, be prepared and bring your own, or else it gets a bit chilly since the air conditioning works well. I so much dislike the new A321 aircraft. Even though it is shiny and new it is TOO SMALL! The seats have no legroom and there are fewer comfort plus (and they fill up) so I don't get upgraded even though I am platinum. Plus the row I was in didn't even have a window. On my flight from Honolulu 2 days ago, they ran out of the 375ml chardonnay even though I was 4th row back in coach. A flight attendant from further back asked our flight attendant for one just before he asked what I wanted and that was the last bottle they had during their first beverage service. I am frustrated based on my last flight and how I feel having just boarded today. I recommend avoiding Oakland routes due to this horrible aircraft. Unfortunately, my next flight in a couple of weeks is going to/from Oakland and I am dreading it. If I stay loyal to Hawaiian after Southwest starts, I will need to only fly in/out of SFO to be sure to be on the wide body planes. read more

Hawaiian Airlines is my airline of choice when flying to Hawaii, it does pay to be a Hawaiian Airlines member too. Booking online vs. calling directly varies, I find the savings to be better online. I am a family of four and booked our flights individually. By doing so, I only paid for one luggage $15 and the rest of the checked in luggage was free. As a card member, amongst other benefits you get one complimentary luggage checked in. If you are not an airlines member the cost is $25. They are doing some remodeling at Oakland airport, so right now, it is not the prettiest but nevertheless it is pretty easy to get in and out. I would allot at least an hour before arriving at the airport. Once you board, the lovely airline staff greets you and you are surrounded by the sounds of Hawaiian music. The seats are spacious and the layout is 2 seats against the window and a row of 4 in the middle. I appreciate the phone chargers that they have on each seat but they do not have complimentary TV, movies, games or wifi :(. It gets pretty chilly on the plane, make sure you bring a little blanket, otherwise you may get sucked in like me and pay $10 for a souvenir blanket and pillow. If you are flying out in the morning, they provide a meal which consists of mixed tropical fruit, breakfast sandwich (pita bread, egg, cheese and mushroom) water and Hawaiian chocolate macadamia nut candy. An hour prior to arrival, they provide complimentary snacks which consist of Hawaiian Sweet Onion chips and various juices. The plane can use a refresh because it's slightly dated, but overall I am happy with Hawaiian Airlines :) read more

I flew Hawaiian to and from Oahu (out of Oakland). I checked in online prior to arriving, and the process was speedy with no issues. The plane to Oahu was a newer one, and the ride was very smooth plus they had outlets to charge my phone. Unfortunately the plane we took back home was older and the ride was noticeably bumpier. No USB connect either. Service on the plane was great both ways. We were served a fruit and cheese plate going there, and a chicken and mushroom sandwich lunch going home. Oh and free alcohol too (rum punch and wine). Big plus since I don't think any other airlines serve free meals anymore. I would fly Hawaiian again for sure. This review was supposed to have been done prior to the review of Hawaiian Airlines coming back from Maui to Oakland. I guess I somewhat have my a** backwards...my bad. My husband and I left on March 5 for Maui on Hawaiian Airlines from Oakland. This was a nonstop flight. Since we haven't traveled on any airlines since June 1989, we knew there have been changes over the years due to security reasons. The Hawaiian Airlines employee assisting us at the check in station was helpful and assured us everything would be okay - that's a relief. This was a morning flight leaving out of Oakland supposedly at 8:20 AM, but instead left at 8:40 AM. The flight attendants provided us with a snack (Maui chips) and drinks (choice of coffee, tea, juice, water). Later, we were served a light lunch consisting of fresh fruit (slices of watermelon, cantaloupe and mango), cheddar cheese and Pepperidge Farms wheat crackers and a chocolate-covered macadamia nut. This is definitely better than the peanuts and beverage. Although I did not take any photos of the food being served by the flight attendants, my photos were mainly the aerial views of Maui from the port window of Hawaiian Airlines Flight 23. The only bad part of the flight to Kahului Airport was the turbulence prior to landing and the landing was a bit rough, but we made it to Maui safely. read more

I'm not discounting the negative experiences but wow, I'm grateful for my flight on Hawaiian Airlines. Flight #1: From the moment we departed Oak to the time we arrived in Honolulu, the stage was being set for our tropical vacation. The seats were comfortable, even all the way in the back. :) We had plenty of overhead storage for our carry-ons and though we were separated by an aisle, we were all next to each other. It was nice to each have our own tv screen and all three of us spent the 5+ hour flight watching something different. I especially appreciated the flight tracker. Like a little kid, I didn't have to wonder "Are we there yet?" Meal service was a nice touch as well as the maui onion chips and Koloa Rum punch cocktail. Oh my. Smooth, safe, friendly. Aloha. Flight #2: No sooner did we leave Oahu that we arrived in Kauai but the 30 mins were pleasant. Again, no problems. :) Flight #3: We were totally spoiled from the first flight so admittedly, this felt like a let down. The plane was much smaller and older so it had none of the luxuries of our original airplane. No TV screens, no music, no flight tracker. Wahhh. But again, it was a smooth flight and we felt well-attended so no real complaints. Food was good, the wine was nice and the snack was tasty. Just flew back from Honolulu to Oakland and although I love the airline itself, the flight back was horrendous. The flight itself was smooth however I was in row 19 and had a family behind me who did not get the child with them to behave. I can handle crying but the child kept kicking my seat throughout the 5 hour flight. These women had no sense of of courtesy and felt entitled. I asked nicely if the child could stop kicking my seat and they did nothing to correct the child's behavior. I proceeded to switch seats and they were offended that I did not just wait for the child to fall asleep. The child did not sleep the whole flight and the mom put the child behind the seat that I switched in. Again the child proceeded to kick my seat throughout the flight. They did not apologize and was talking loudly as if I was in the wrong for wanting my peace and should just accept their child kicking my seat. I looked back to see if the adults would do anything and they did not. They let the child kick my seat throughout the whole flight. The grandmother was talking outloud and saying that I was rude for looking back "at the child" which was not the case. I was looking at the adult to teach their child courtesy. I am not rude for wanting my peace. Who in the world wants kicking for the whole flight? These women were oblivious and self absorbed. Clueless even. They were obviously not raised with manners. The child is a reflection of their elders. That's what I can say about these women if they even qualify to be called that. I fly Hawaiian Airlines all the time and my flights have always been good but this experience was awful because of the other passengers. I just wish that Hawaiian Airlines would give a courtesy reminder to the passengers about kicking seats whether they are adult or children. It makes for an awful flight. read more

This review is about redeeming Hawaiian Airlines reward miles. In short, don't bother; it's more trouble than it's worth. I fly regularly to Hawaii for business. Because I am reimbursed, I book my flight with dollars. When my husband comes with me (usually), we buy his seat with my miles. Try to upgrade using miles? Hah! "Not until the day of the flight," at which time upgrades are never available. They email him invitations to bid $$ for an upgrade because he's flying on miles, but I don't get the offer and they can't manage to get us seats together on an upgrade. The dollars-miles combination is apparently something they've never heard of and their system has no such capability. Today I booked an Avis car rental - a HA "partner" supposedly - with my redeemed miles certificates. The confirmation comes back with no certificates applied and Hawaiian and Avis are in a finger-pointing contest as to who is responsible for applying the redeemed miles. I had planned to do other things today, but have now spent hours on the phone with representatives, all with conflicting stories. So I'm cancelling the Barclays card and will fly in the future with Alaska and United. Their reward points are worth more anyway. read more

I booked Hawaiian airlines back in February for my trip to Kona in October. My Flights were changed that affected my seat assignments plus a 4 hr layover in HNL. Called customer service to rearrange all my scheduled seat assignments, times, and car rental. Since I now sit way in the tail section, the ride to HNL was freezing cold while the middle area was hot per the flight attendant. Here was the worse part on my return flight back to OAK last Saturday. My luggage took 37 minutes to appear on the carousel (WTF), my wife luggage was damaged beyond repair (both handles were ripped off), and of course I paid $25 per bag to Hawaiian airlines for my home flight. Furthermore, I am in the tail section again in a freezing cold plane coming home. At least my vacation in Hawaii was pleasant and warm. I heard Southwest will be flying to Hawaii in 2019!!! read more

Back again! Is extra comfort seating worth $160 round trip? 11 hours in airtime round trip. I think yes! I'm going to paradise.

I would recommend just about ANY airline to use to fly to the island, except United. They really, REALLY don't care about customer service. Changing gates at the last minute, mis placing luggage , general rude attitudes. This really is not the way to spend your hard earned money. Delta, Southwest, lots to to choose from. Hawaiian Airlines was our airline of choice for our trip to Kauai the week before Thanksgiving. This was based primarily on price (least expensive) and decent flight options (arrived to Kauai about noon). While I was waiting for my honey and our friend to check bags, I observed a very nice Hawaiian Airlines employee take the initiative to help a large family with young children, who seemed a bit overwhelmed. (The adults seemed overwhelmed, not the children.) My interactions with employees along the way was equally positive. Before this trip, I can't remember the last time I had a "real" meal on a flight. While it wasn't a five star experience, it really wasn't that bad. They also offer a nice variety of beverages and snacks along the way. The complimentary cocktail, as we approached the islands, was wonderful. While I'm typically a beer and bourbon person, something about vacation makes me want to drink on the sweeter side. The cocktail was a pre-mixed Mai Tai from Kauai's own Koloa Rum Company. Yum. We were also offered a complimentary glass of white or red wine with dinner on the trip home. Cheers! If I could give no stars I would. I flew Hawaiian 3 years ago, to Hilo and return to Oakland. During the flight I signed up for and received a An Hawaiian Miles number, and was told I would receive credit for the round trip 3 years ago. The number was issued 3 years ago, yet now I'm told the account has no miles from that round trip but does have 200 from an inter island trip a month ago. Where did this number come from? Hawaiian Airlines, of course. DON'T BELIEVE A WORD ANY OF THEIR FLIGHT CREW OR REPRESENTATIVES TELL YOU. Ignore it , it's meaningless, they all contradict each other and never follow through with anything they're supposed to. I'm glad Alaska and Southwest are now flying there. read more

So far had 2 experiences with this airline. The planes are a bit older than Delta or Alaska but the service was lovely. I would fly Hawaiian again! (Too bad I have points that I can't transfer because there arent any official partner airlines.) read more

This is a review of the airline staff and checkin process at Oakland international. The airplane was fine and the flight crew was good. I am just upset at the staff and the facilities at the Oakland airport. I got to the airport about an hour and 15 minutes before our flight. I didn't print out my boarding passes so I figured I would just do it at the kiosk. No dice since all of the kiosks weren't working. No problem, let me do it on my mobile phone and go that way. Nope, too close to the flight time, need to see the desk agent. OK, I get in line with the rest of the people who have to check in bags etc at the counter and need to get tickets since all of their kiosks don't work. I wait my turn in a long line and finally get to the front. After 20 minutes we get to the counter and get out boarding passes. Since I had to wait in line I figured I would check the car seat since it would save me from carrying it. Got the luggage tag and everything okay. Went to drop off the seat with the TSA screeners when someone says if you are on the flight to Oahu you need to get in security line now. One agent comes helps me with my bag but gives me some attitude about some policies regarding child seats etc. I place a few diapers in the bag so that I wouldn't have to buy some the 2nd I landed. She proceeds to tell me they should have charged me $25 and they let you bring car seats on free as a service. I call BS since it is a federal requirement. I told her I would throw the diapers away as that is cheaper than their fee, this is all when I'm supposed to board the plane to get on the flight and get my bags on. Anyways this agent was pretty rude and we got delayed in getting on the plane because of it. But so did the other 100 people who couldn't use a kiosk. I guess that agent helping didn't learn much about Aloha from training. Other than that the flight was fine and the flight crew was good. Small meal but some food is better than no food I suppose. I had the pleasure of flying Hawaiian Airlines for the very first time due to, of all things, business travel. The direct flights from Oakland to Honolulu are super convenient and actually based on a comparison of rates when I was booking was the most cost efficient as well. Hawaiian Airlines has it dialed in terms of their hospitality, calm yet helpful demeanor and overall sense that they like you and are HAPPY that you're on their flight. Seats and leg room are among the the roomiest I've experienced in Coach travel and let's face it the free meal is worth an extra star alone. I mean it's nothing gourmet or even particulary delicious but it's free. I genuinely felt welcome on Hawaiian Airlines and had the best cabin crew ever. Also, it's kind of fun how they say Mahalo after every announcement. If you are going to Hawaii from Oakland, don't even bother booking with another airline.
