Five stars. Always enjoy flying with Hawaiian Airlines, especially to LIH. Always great coming home in the early morning. Service is always great and the plane ride is smooth as buttah! They only need to clean the windows on their 717s. It's all dirty and hard to take pictures in-flight.

10/31/24 Away we go! One thing I noticed, going to & coming from, the flight attendant were NOT assisting passengers with expediting the boarding or deplaning process. S few back, they have. I noticed them being less attentive, their facial expressions not as giving of the Aloha "spirit" I have come to know for the past few years. This has given me pause. Perhaps it is time to consider other options in the future, perhaps. It has been a pleasure but what I have experienced as of late--I hope is just a fluke of one off? Something to think about. On the last take off, EVS was cleaning before we even deplaned, a bit odd, have not encountered that before. Seats are fairly comfortable. Mahalo

Some of the planes are smaller little leg room if you don't upgrade your seat. The seats are for average person no one who is slightly bigger frame.. All the seats have charging stations and phone holder or iPad. Inflight purchase service Apple Pay or credit card. People a kind a friendly.

7 a.m. flight ease in getting boarding pass, luggage drop off, and proceeding TSA checkpoint to gate area. Agents pleasantly answering customer questions. Everyone needed a paper boarding pass so see an agent if using your phone to check in. Early morning flight, sun rising, sitting in row 1&2.

Shout out the Hawaiian Airlines team from Phoenix to Lihue. The customer service was stellar never had to ask for anything. The airplane was clean and the food was very good. The only thing that I thought was strange was there was no pineapple. But anyway we were on time and it was smooth flying. Mahalo to the team!

I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised by Hawaiian Airlines!! First of all, I was able to catch a direct, nonstop flight round trip from Oakland to Lihue Airport on Kauai Island. The flight crew was great!! Way better than other airlines I've been on. Complimentary meals and also a complimentary Rum Punch. Plus they give you some chocolate later in the flight also. They seemed like they enjoyed what they were doing. There were no TVs on this flight, but you can download the app and watch stuff on your tablet or phone. I usually just listens to music and sleep anyways, the seats were comfortable. I definitely got the Hawaiian vibe on this flight, both coming and going, an enjoyable experience!!

Hands down... my favorite HA employees seem to work here in LIH. The employees remember my name (or at least my face), are always so courteous, efficient and kind. Honestly, they embody the very definition of the Aloha spirit. Maybe it's just because #KauaiAsWhy This is the reason that, if given the choice, I will always travel to this island. And Hawaiian Airlines will always be my airlines of choice. Mahalo HA ticket counter employees and gate agents.

Southwest Airlines - MAX-8 Service To Honolulu

Southwest Airlines

February in Columbus, Ohio - the epitome of icy misery. What better way to escape the frostbite…read morethan a trip to the tropical paradise of Lihue, Kauai? Naturally, we chose Southwest Airlines, because who doesn't love a budget airline experience with a sprinkle of chaos? We snagged a great deal last summer, even splurging on upgraded seats for extra legroom. Because, let's face it, nothing screams luxury like paying extra just to stretch your knees. Our journey began at John Glenn Airport, with a thrilling itinerary: Columbus to Las Vegas, a quick pit stop in Oakland (because direct flights are overrated), and finally onto Lihue. Now, let's talk about those upgraded seats. The premium experience of sitting in Row 6 was practically royalty! The new boarding procedure ensured we were among the first to board, which gave us plenty of time to settle into our "exclusive" seats and brace ourselves for what was to come. Spoiler alert: it wasn't great. The real fun began on the longest leg of the journey--four glorious hours from Oakland to Lihue. We were blessed with seats right behind a delightful three-year-old who was on a mission to win an Olympic gold in tantrum-throwing. Her mother, with the patience of a saint and the control of a wet noodle, valiantly tried to keep her from turning the cabin into her personal scream chamber. Meanwhile, her father, an active-duty Marine, demonstrated levels of tolerance that could only be described as superhuman. As for us? We were left wondering why noise-canceling headphones weren't included in the ticket price. Hungry? Don't worry, Southwest has you covered! By covered, I mean they'll toss you a bag of snacks and call it a day. The options were truly gourmet: card-board-esque Cinnamon Grahams, Strawberry Stuff'd Oat Bites (whatever those are), and pistachios in two thrilling flavors - Honey and Roasted Salted. And let's not forget the Oreo cookie, which might have been the only edible highlight. The three-year-old hated it all, of course, except for her trusty pacifier. At least someone had a lifeline. Entertainment-wise, the 737 MAX 8 boasted intermittent Wi-Fi and seat-back with built-in chargers (both USB-C and the OG version--how thoughtful). But hey, who needs reliable Wi-Fi or riveting movies when you have a front-row seat to a toddler's emotional rollercoaster? Finally, we landed in paradise. The Southwest baggage claim at Lihue was surprisingly efficient--probably because everyone was too exhausted from the flight to bother causing delays. A small victory, but we'll take it. In conclusion, if you're looking for an unforgettable travel experience filled with legroom that's almost comfortable, snacks that double as packing material, and in-flight entertainment courtesy of tiny humans, Southwest Airlines is your ticket to adventure. Would I do it again? Let's just say I'm keeping my options open for teleportation technology in 2027. Bon voyage!

I finally made it to my #900 and am going to Yelp my review for Southwest Airlines. Everyone knows…read morehow much I love SW, my favorite airlines. I am the Queen of SW as my co-workers states. Thank you, for making it possible for me and my soulmate, to get away for the day or the weekends to the neighbor island. Competition is so good! Never would have done it if SW wasn't doing business on the islands. Since then I was able to travel to Kauai many times. Grateful I get to visit the island we spent our honeymoon, 27+ years ago. I booked a bunch of flights during Southwest Airlines' Birthday sale back in June. Gone are the super low fares of $29. / $39. flights, which I need to catch when it does happen again but happy I was able to take advantage of it. This recent trip to Kauai for the weekend was so nice and a much needed get away. Everything was great, from getting off the plane to checking in the next day. Remember to check in 24 hours before your flight. SW boards by groups, A.B.C., A-list if you qualify and or want to pay extra. After A group, military and family with kids. then B and C. & 2 free check in luggage. Since it is only 25 min. flight, from LIH-HNL, we only get water service. This trip I decided to check in one luggage last minute due to our sauces, liquid. Checking in my bag was quick and simple, I printed my lug tag via the kiosk and gave it to the CSA. You can also check in your bags on line when you check in, then print the bag tags at the kiosk. So simple! During my recent October flight, when it was time to board, the scanner wasn't working but the staff worked together and checked everyone in manually without a problem. I don't want to sound Bias because Southwest is my favorite airlines but the many times I am on a SW flight I have no problems or complaints. I am truly grateful. I am happy I get to visit all my favorites restaurant on Kauai once I get off the plane ( Tip Top, Hamura, Deli Bread Connection). I need my saimin fix monthly. LUV Southwest, recommend by me & I can't wait for my next getaway! Happy Eating and traveling, live love life to the fullest. Happy #900 Yelp review!!

Nothing beats my…read morefirst flight into Hawaii on Hawaiian Airlines where they provide free snacks, meal, and complimentary pour of Kauai's Koloa Rum. My husband, and I were definitely disappointed at the lack of in-flight complimentary meal for a 5+ hour flight both ways. They offer limited snacks - a pack of two Biscoff cookies, or salted pretzel mix, and water, soda, juice, tea or coffee. Other things are available for purchase, however the options are extremely limited. We purchased a cheese board for 10 dollars, and they only had enough sparkling wine for my first in-flight beverage on the way there. On the way back, we were told that the return flight had only been provided two sparkling wines for the whole flight, so I ordered red instead. They had no more cheese plates for the return flight, so the only item available for purchase was a 5 dollar can of mini Cool Ranch Doritos. Because we knew how limited their menu was, my husband and I made sure to pick up some spam musubi before our flight home, which was a great idea because we got into LAX at about 10:30 PM. I was also disappointed they had me check my carry-on even though it fit in the their luggage sizer on the way to the Big Island. The staff who worked both flights were friendly, and helpful, but American Airlines was otherwise a disappointment.

From Los Angeles, there are six airlines that run direct flights. This competition is good for ticket prices, with roundtrip tickets from LAX during shoulder season running about $350 for Economy Main (lower if Basic Economy). Delta has direct flights to its West Coast hubs in Los Angeles and Seattle. From Los Angeles, there is a 6 hour flight landing at 7 pm. This same plane then is taken back to Los Angeles as a redeye, taking off at 9:25 pm, and landing into LA around 5:30 am. This is the roundtrip that my wife and I took during April of '26. Both legs of the trip were on-time (actually one of the very few times on a Delta flight where we officially took off within 5 minutes of the scheduled departure...this is unusual since the scheduled departure really talks about the time when the plane leaves the gate...which is what the flight crew can somewhat control). Even though the flight goes over uninhabited areas of the Pacific, free usable Wi-Fi was provided on both legs (though it wasn't working for much of our return trip). There was little turbulence so the LA based flight crew on both flights were able to provide both snack and beverage service. Along with the entertainment screen at each seat, and the extra legroom provided by Comfort+, the 5 hour flight went by pretty quickly. This was the earliest we've arrived into a domestic LAX terminal, and still found it to be relatively busy, even at 5:30 in the morning. But Delta still delivered our one checked bag on-time, and we were on our way to the Metro system before 6. Loved it...knowing that even if morning LA rush hour traffic was horrible on this Monday, we would get home at a reliable time.
