Almost all of them either said they're not available (im guessing on island time, it's not required to wake up early) or they charge ridiculous amount with one company even charging us $ 260 for a 15 min , 6.2 mile trip! This company was the only one that offered to take us and even used the meter! It was just right that our driver Miriam, who by the way was the nicest and kindest, get a good tip for going above and beyond. My advice, don't have a strict schedule that is based around the bus times because the bus runs on its own schedule, not what is posted. Always follow where the bus is, especially on the weekends, because having to wait another 1-2 hours for the next bus is not ideal. Not much seating, but there was never not enough seats. I can see why they don't advertise the bus to tourists.

A far cry from the $130 a day + gas fee for a car. But that's just the monetary benefit. The real benefits beyond environmental or adding to the congested roads was meeting people. We talked to such wonderful representatives of the island, found new places and saw a different side of life beyond the hotel on Kauai. The drivers were kind and helpful. The passengers engaging and on one occasion a young man gave up his seat for me to sit down on a full bus. (Note that was the only time we had any problem getting a seat on the bus too! ) So I would highly recommend the bus, Am a fan and will continue to be a rider when ever we are on Island. I was already extremely impressed by Gloria, but the driver she sent to pick me up named Kris, she was the most fantastic, funny and the most positive, upbeat and has such wonderful personality, that she was able quickly make me (with a walking disability) forget the extremely ugly, severely painful and exhaustingly difficult 6-hour travel day to Oahu for a 1/2 hour doctor appointment. When I arrived back on Kauai, Gloria arranged for Kris to pick me up...and from the moment I sat in her car...Kris had me laughing and took my mind off my pain, and ugly travel day. Kris is a Super Star...and if you are lucky enough to have Kris pick you up in her taxi, enjoy the conversation, jokes and her amazing personality...anyone can drive a taxi, but Kris has a gift of a fun loving personality that makes you wish she could drive you all the way to California! And George, who picked me up in the morning at 4:45am...was also a Super Star! He was such a genuinely nice guy and so extremely likable, that I felt like I was just getting a ride to the airport by an old friend.
