2012: The Year of the Injury
It's been too familiar a story this year - go to gym, play soccer, get in shape ... then get injured. I picked up a torn MCL in a soccer game, and a soccer player, you always fear the _CL injuries - the ones that sideline you for months on end (indefinitely, for some players). Thankfully, it didn't require surgery - just several sessions at a rehab place, and that's where Hawaii Physical Therapy comes in.
Milton and his crew at Hawaii Physical Therapy were awesome. Everyone was friendly and jovial - it's depressing enough to be rendered sedentary for a period of time, but the crew @ HPT help you pretty much forget about it.
The thing that impressed me the most about HPT was the focus not only on the area of injury, but also the balance and strength of the body as a whole, so as to help prevent future injuries from occurring. This walking accident needs all the help I can get.
So, after 8 sessions over 4 weeks, not only did the knee feel stronger and better, but my core felt a bit more sturdy as a result of all the exercises and stretches.
Of course, I only found out about HPT as a result of a referral from my orthopedist, but lest you believe that HPT is only about referrals, there's also Body Balance with Bryce that strengthens your body in a way to improve overall balance. It's a program popular with golfers looking for a bit more flexibility, so there's that.
All in all, I can't be more thankful for what the crew @ HPT did for me over the month that I came in for rehab sessions. If you ever get a referral for them or feel the need to check out Body Balance - DO IT! I'd gladly go back. Well, not "gladly" ... but as a walking accident (with a fractured foot now), it just seems inevitable. read more
