They did not send any notice or a bill just got a letter from collections. These people suck and didn't even bill the correct insurance.

But this time was different when we're back for our fourth baby. While admitted at The Queen's Medical Center for the birth of our fourth baby, my husband used the hospital valet service on 5/13/2026 at around 11:30 AM as I was going into active labor. Our vehicle remained in valet custody overnight. The following day, Thursday on March 14, 2026, around 11:00 AM, my husband retrieved the vehicle to run errands and discovered that the inside of our van had clearly been rummaged through. Cash and other small personal items were missing. A report was immediately made to hospital security, and a statement was taken. While the amount stolen may be considered minor, the violation of privacy and trust during such a vulnerable and important family moment is extremely upsetting. We understand valuables should never be left in vehicles, but patients and families should still be able to expect professionalism, honesty, and security from a hospital valet service -- especially during overnight stays connected to medical care and childbirth. We hope management takes this matter seriously and properly investigates the incident.

The anesthesiology team kept us comfortable, and the state-of-the-art facility felt more like a welcoming environment than a surgery center. They woke up with manageable discomfort--no worse than a tough workout--and was walking the halls just hours later. The nursing staff was phenomenal, checking in regularly and encouraging mobility with kindness and expertise. By week two, my cousin was off prescription pain meds and moving better than he had in a decade! Physical therapy started gently, and with each session, he regained strength and flexibility. Six months post-op, he's back to hiking local trails, gardening, and chasing his grandkids without a twinge of pain. His only regret? Not doing this sooner! I had a total left hip replacement done there TODAY! The front desk receptionists were clear and helpful. Check in was quick. I was called back just a few minutes before my check in time (I was a bit early) First off, I am very picky because I am in the healthcare field also. So keep that in mind. Every person that talked to me from my pre-op nurse to the anesthesiologist to my surgeon's team to my scrub nurse to my recovery nurse was SAFE!!! They checked my name and my date of birth to make sure I was the correct patient. They were also so engaging a honestly appeared to be so happy with their job that translates to better patient care. In my book, patient safety is PARAMOUNT! They were all knowledgeable about the procedure and answered my questions throughly and without any hesitations or feeling rushed. The facility was very clean and inviting and was grateful for a relaxing calm atmosphere. Surgery went well and was able to ambulate with help of my recovery nurse to the bathroom...and also ate some cheese crackers and water. Made my discharge goals pretty quickly and I was out the door! Loved this place. Loved the healthcare team there. I feel like they have a great team and they are happy there. That's a kind of feeling that is difficult to fake. And if your healthcare team is happy, you WILL get better and safer care.

I didn't know colleague mopped in front of our work station and both legs flew up as I exited the swinging door... Torn rotator cuff. After x-rays and an MRI, took some time for worker's comp to approve this procedure and the day finally came. Was given explicit instructions prior to this day and after following them, I checked in at Minimally Invasive Surgery Hawai'i (MIS), which is located on the 6F of Hale Pawa'a. MIS is state of the art surgery center which has a team of professionals who perform orthopedic, musculoskeletal care and spine care procedures. I've never experienced this before and didn't know what to expect so I found myself asking my sister, who has 30yrs experience as a registered nurse, with questions. My concerns were alleviated as I believed in professionals and their knowledge and expertise. I was informed by the office of Dr. Darryl Kan and complied with the instructions provided to me. Upon check in I had my RN sister accompany me just in case I needed clarification and to ensure a smooth process. To be frank I was somewhat concerned as there was not one other patient in the check in area. It was just my sister, myself and the staff behind the counter. I was escorted to the back where I changed into a gown and received instructions as well as the attending professional reiterated today's procedure. Once again, nerve block was explained in simpler terms where I understood. It scared me but once again I had to trust the process. When it was my turn, I was rolled into the operating room where Dr. Kan greeted me in an upbeat manner and briefed me on what's to come. This was done over 8 months ago so I don't recall what happened after except finally waking up to some noise. The nurse (?) greeted and checked up on me. I was a little groggy and she must have read my mind as I was thirsty and hungry. I was offered an array of drinks and some snacks to choose from. When I was post groggy stage, the staff called my brother in law as he was designated to pick me up as I'm not allowed to drive after my procedure. I remember presented with non-slip socks and escorted to the 1F via wheelchair. Overall, I am very pleased and satisfied with MIS as they walked me through this process that was nerve-racking from the get go. From Dr. Kan, his staff and the staff at MIS, I was treated with great care and professionalism.

From the very beginning, the entire process was handled with incredible care and attention to detail. My pre-op appointment with Kristine was extremely thorough--she carefully reviewed both pre- and post-operative instructions and took the time to answer every question, which made me feel confident and completely prepared well ahead of surgery. Immediately after that visit, Laura emailed me everything we discussed in clear, detailed written form: pre- and post-op instructions, prescriptions to pick up in advance, check-in times, and all logistical details. There was truly no room for confusion. I felt fully prepared weeks before my procedure even took place. On the day of surgery, the care continued to be outstanding. Ana and Char made me feel calm and comfortable from the moment I arrived--everything from letting me choose my music in the operating room to making sure I was warm and at ease. In recovery, my PACU nurse, Tricia, was wonderful. She ensured I was comfortable, monitored my vitals closely, confirmed transportation details, and made the entire recovery process feel smooth and reassuring. Dr. Ching was exceptional throughout the experience. He checked in with me beforehand, answered all of my questions, and during the procedure itself--done under local anesthesia--he calmly walked me through each step and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. Today is my first day post-procedure, and I feel completely fine. I didn't even need to take any of the prescribed pain medication. As someone who had never had surgery before, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. From start to finish, the care was truly top-of-the-line.

The doctors, nurses, CNA's and other staff helped make my birth experience go as smoothly as possible. They were all professional, compassionate, and gave me 5-star worthy care. My favorite part was our celebratory meal we got to enjoy on the second night of our stay. I was fortunate enough to be on my way home after only 2 nights. The reason for deducting 1 star is because my discharge experience could've gone better. We went from 2 blissful days of feeling taken care of and pampered, to feeling like we were being rushed to move out. An older Asian lady (not sure what her role is at Kapiolani but I know she definitely wasn't a nurse) came into our room and started basically telling us it's time to get ready to go. She asked my husband where our car seat was. We explained to her, per the instructions from our RN that was last taking care of us, we were waiting for the pharmacy to call to let us know my prescription was ready, then my husband will grab the car seat on the way to the pharmacy. Then we would have someone from their staff ensure that we buckled baby in correctly, and then proceed with discharge. This lady started yapping and bossing my husband around, telling him to bring the car around up front and we'll all walk out together. She then proceeded to call the pharmacy to basically tell them to hurry up and fill my prescription. Her presence caused me unnecessary stress. We felt like we were being hurried to clear out the room. On top of that, I was not offered a wheelchair to our car. I had to walk, 2 days postpartum, freshly stitched up and sore, to our car parked in front at guest drop off. Despite this experience I'm not letting it overshadow my overall experience at Kapiolani. The nurses were so sweet and supportive and made me feel like a rock star first time mom after I gave birth to my daughter in just 11 hours. I left feedback for kapiolani and I do hope they take steps to improve their discharge process for future patients.

The Center had its origin thanks to its namesake, Queen Kapiolani, who started a maternity home in 1890. Kapiolani had no children of her own, but left a legacy of devotion to education and health care for women and children. The Center is comprised of a hospital with emergency room capabilities. A clinic with full time physician oversight also operates at the center. The staff at Kapiolani Medical Center is aloha friendly. My daughter had her baby at Kapiolani, where she received good prenatal and delivery care. The Center is currently fundraising to raise money to support growth. I attended parts of the fundraiser, which was a heart warming experience. The facilities are a mishmash of architectural styles mostly from the 1980's. There is modest colorful art throughout the complex. The dining room on the second floor hosts a decent cafeteria and a Starbucks. The hospital is immaculate inside. The hospital is also a teaching hospital in partnership with the medical school at the University of Hawaii. Today, I also had lunch in the Kobayashi & Kosasa Dining Room. A big bowl of soup was only $4! I had broccoli cheese soup, which was healthier than your average soup, made with noticeably less salt. I loved my soup. The cafeteria offers an interesting menu of Hawaiian traditional meals, craft pizzas, salads and more. They offer valet parking, because finding your own parking is near impossible. There is a parking garage somewhere on site, but I'm not sure where.

We both laughed so hard at that---as he knew what i meant and I will so miss the staff that helped me on those two days in November 2024 and February 2025. Kudos to the entire staff! I felt so welcomed and at ease!!! I still am sad that i don't have a third eye to be worked on...
