I was in today at my Brookfield IL shop was was greeted with an attitude from the man behind the counter. I have been coming here for some time now and have never really had a bad experience here until today. The man at the counter seemed frustrated and didn't really want to answer my questions about the oil you guys carry. This person was really rude and awkward almost like he hates his job and his life. TERRENCE was right on top of things. Greeted me and said get "Get out of the car, I'll drive it." I was happy to oblige. He spelled out the services but I had to upsell him because I wanted Mobil 1 and my Ford has a large oil sump. He quoted a nickel under $90. I said "sounds fair" and TERRENCE made it so. This is a no small talk, get it in, get it done business. TERRENCE took his turn to upsell me and offered a radiator flush and fill for $40. I knew I was way overdue on that and TERRENCE wasn't packing the plate. Good advice that I took. In no time I was gone and with tax light $142 which I reckon is reasonable and fair. Those of you complaining about bait and switch: it's called salesmanship. Just say no to any upsell and stop calling it bait and switch. You have got to know the $19.95 price is the low ball to get you in the door? If you still have issues with good old American ingenuity just take your car to the dealer for an oil change. My car got messed up because they convinced my mom that she needed to get a fuel filter and then my car broke down on a very busy street during rush hour. This Havoline is now open where the Valvoline Instant Oil Change used to be. These guys are absolutely great. So much better than Jiffy Lube!! I went to get an oil change during lunch today and they had me in and out in about 30 min. Matt was very patient with me and the fact that I fall into the category of "girl that knows nothing about her car". He explained the services that were being automatically recommended by their software system (based on the make/model/mileage of my car) but wasn't pushy at all. Their customer waiting area is comfortable, and they were even handing out cold bottles of water (since it's a lovely 105 degrees in Chicago today). I will 100% for sure be returning to Havoline for basic stuff like oil changes. read more

I visited this location last week to get a simple oil change. Of course they tried to talk me into the $50 oil, but I said no. I thought everything went fine until I came home and my engine light turned on. I was able to have another person look at the car (since I no nothing about them) and it turns out my car was leaking oil. I went back to this location to tell them that something was wrong, and the worker checked it out again for me. He said it wasn't leaking, everything was fine. So I went to the auto zone down the street and was told the wrong weight of oil was put into my car. I can't believe that something as simple as an oil change was messed up...I will not be visiting this location again. read more

Yet another place that just wants your money for unnecessary jobs. I only wanted an oil change and told that to the technician. He then recommended the usual crap- radiator flush, transmission flush, all that stuff. I politely declined. When reviewing the bill with me, the technician stated that he had checked the battery and it would last me through the winter. My battery then proceeded to die twice in the next 3 days, and when I took the car to my regular mechanic, he told me that it was obvious my battery was shot. So either the technicians at Halvoline are poorly trained or this one chose to lie to me about checking my battery. So I went here after working a 12hr shift, which was probably my first mistake because I was extremely tired and just wanted to get my oil changed and be done with it. They had a huge sign advertising an oil change for $19.99. Well immediately they called me out by my car and said that the manufacturer recommendation for my car was a 50 dollar synthetic blend oil. I seriously just wanted it done so I said fine just do it so I could be done with it. This was my second mistake. They then called me back out for a second time stating that I needed my transmission flushed. They said it was dirty and my car would stall if it wasn't changed. I said whatever just get it done. Then they managed to ask me out to the location of my car a third time. Now they claimed I needed my radiator flushed as well and my power steering fluid changed also. I knew now that they were probably trying to make a quick buck off of me. See my car is only 2 years old and it has 40000 miles on it, but I acquired it last year and only have put 3k miles on the vehicle. I declined the other 2 services and when I did some research I found out that I didn't need my radiator flushed until 100k miles and I definitely didn't need my transmission flushed or a synthetic blend oil. I feel disgusted that they got one over on me and I will writing a letter to corporate asking for a refund. I will never return to this business. read more

Once a while you can not resist to write review, positive as well as negative when you face something exceptional. My experience at Havoline Express at Lyon, IL today was exceptional. I changed oil at that station once about 3 months ago and I decided to give another try. Before my car was pulled in chunky about 5'8" tall in black sweater gentleman came to me ad said: synthetic, I said no 5-20 conventional oil. He said: no your car needs synthetic and I can not do it. I gladly resigned from the service, pulled out and NEVER be back not only at this location but at whole chain of Havoline Express Lube. FYI My car Acura 2008 TL with 60 thousand milesDOES NOT need synthetic oil but it can be used if you want to pay 3-4 times more. Conclusion and advise for others: Avoid oil changes at stations where they do not know what oil your car needs because there is more that they do not have a clue about, quite possible that they do not recognize front and rear end of the car. It's also possible that they may put windshield washer into transmission box and the opposite. Most likely scenario here was that they wanted to rip me off for extra 50-60 $. These guys are great. They take pride in their work, polite/professional, thorough and the costs are very competitive. Can't go anywhere else for fluid changes. One word of advice. They might offer additional services such as transmission/radiator flushing, etc. If you tell them you're on a budget, they'll work with you. Very nice guys. read more

Tried to use the Ogden Ave location twice, two weeks apart. Both times it was an hour or so near closing and I was told the oil change equipment was down and to return in the morning. Both times 2 younger men where inside of the shop just talking. I find this odd that the equipment would be down the one day and then fixed when the shop opens up the very next day on both of my visits. I just moved to this area and was looking for a reliable oil change place to take both of my cars. You've lost a customer. read more

I went for a simple oil change for my Honda CRV. Of course they tried to sell me the $50.00 oil change .....I asked if he (Ruben, the manager) would just put the car back together; that I would like to take it to my mechanic he was very respectful and understanding. But.......as a courtesy my fluids were topped off. Coolant was put in my water reservoir !!! That costs me $50. To flush ! read more

As soon as I pulled around to the back of the building, Reuben Ordaz (the assistant manager) came out to greet me. He asked how he could help me, opened up the door, said that they just put on a fresh pot of coffee on, and told me that I would be out in 10-15 minutes. I have been getting my oil changed for many years and have never been so professionally and warmly welcomed! After he started working on my car, he called me over to ask me a couple of questions. He was very polite and recommended a couple of things for me to do. He was informative and encouraging without being pushy. I went here for a basic $19.99 oil change. The tech told me that I would need different oil and gave me my options. I was charged $49.99 for the oil change. I called them when I got home to question why I paid so much and the manager said that it was because of the synthetic oil blend that they put in. I asked if this oil was $30 more than basic oil and he said yes. I aske dhow much a qt of basic oil cost, and he said maybe $4.99. I then asked how much the synthetic blend oil that I got cost and her said maybe $5.99 or $6.99. I then asked why I paid $30 more than a baic oil change when the oil I got was only a few dollars more a qt. He then changed his attitude and told me he was not sure how much a qt costs and that I could call corporate if I wanted to. I called an auto supply store and found out that the oil I got cost $6.99 a qt from comparable brands. Even with a $2.00 increase in the oil cost, that should of only came to $10-$12 dollars more. Where did the other $18 come from? The manager did not want to cooperate at all. Be careful of what you agree to, and get costs of items before the work is done. read more

I just want to know how a regular oil change that was supposedly $19.99 turned into a $85 oil change and dude didn't even tell me I had an option of another oil brand he just told me about the most expensive one until his co worker came out and told me about both. I always have an amazing experience at Havoline. I am currently driving my first car and don't know much about them, but they always answer all my questions and look at problem I mention even when I am only going for an oil change. Jaime is great and always helps me out and shows me what he's doing and asks me questions about my car as well as always making sure I understand what he's doing and why. He remembers me and always asks about previous problems with the car. There is another young man who works there, I never catch his name, but he works very fast and always tops off all my fluids without me even asking and answers all my questions too. When I came in for a brake job, they said they couldn't do it right away, but offered to drive me home and work on my brakes, when they were finished with a big job on another car they were working on. Then, when my brake job was finished, they drove my car back to my home and dropped it off in excellent condition. Everyone was very courteous and professional and the work was done at a fair price. I will go back when I need oil changes and any other work on my car that they do there. read more

My 87 year old mother went there for an oil change, I know the service is good and the people are friendly , but they try and sell stuff that does not need to be done. They talked her in to a high priced transmisson flush and the high priced oil, if she drives a hundred miles a week that's a lot.its just to bad that they take advantage of people who don't know any better and can't afford to be ripped off. read more

In early December 2012 I took my Saturn in for repairs. Havoline needed to obtain a transmission mount to complete the repairs. I understood that it would take some time to acquire the part. In addition to the replacing the transmission mount, they also replaced an valve gasket. There repair of the gasket lasted about 5 weeks before it started leaking again. When the gasket started leaking and five weeks had passed with no part, I started requesting a refund of the $100.00 deposit I gave them for the part. They said fine, that they would refund the $100.00. I waited a couple more weeks and called again and again was assured the refund was coming. I waited some more and called again and was told they had to send the request to their main office but that I would have the refund shortly. It is now March, I sold the Saturn and I'm still waiting for the return of my $100.00 deposit. The only recourse I have is to write this review and to sue them for for a measly $100.00. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE A DEPOSIT. THEY WON'T RETURN IT. read more
