I would like to preface this review with the fact that I have been in service my entire life,…read moreincluding managing a hotel myself. I currently work for American Airlines at the Charlotte Douglas Airport. The front desk agent Matt - caused me to walk away from a prepaid reservation and pay to stay at the Hilton Hershey property instead. Which was amazing, by the way! I had a reservation for 6/15, and had called the week before to reconfirm an early check in. After working my 8-9-hour shift, I drove over 7 hours straight to Hershey PA to take my elderly mother to a concert at Hershey Stadium. Once arriving at the Fairfield, Matt brusquely replied that I did not have a reservation. I explained to him that a Marriott Vacation Club Member had gifted me the room and it was registered in my name as well as theirs. He then "found it" and told me there would be no early check in although I had confirmed, and I would have to wait until after 4pm. Mind you it is 11am, and at this point I have been awake well over 24 hours and am feeling faint. He was so nasty, I took a step back to take a calming breath. He was then so rude to the next lady (in front of her children as well) that she exclaimed "is this how you treat Marriott Bonvoy Members? WOW!" I knew I was unable to reason with this individual, and I was too exhausted to escalate the issue. So, I simply left and took my business elsewhere. I called today after some thought on the matter, hoping to give grace, and it was Matt who answered the phone. He was disdainful, snide, would not provide me with the GM's name or email and disconnected the call. I called Marriott Bonvoy myself and got the information I needed. Matt is ABSOLUTELY NOT the person Guests should EVER see and interact with upon entering a Marriott property. A welcoming smile and spirit of kindness is necessary in our industry. Matt has none of these qualities. Like I relayed to Corporate, Matt is most definitely a cause of loss of revenue for this location. On a more positive note, Zira and Melisa at The Hampton Inn Hershey saved the day! Highly recommend!!!

There was an oversized refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker available. Bathroom was clean with hand soap and body lotion on wall in pump containers. There were also pump containers in curtained shower of shampoo, conditioner and body soap. Water was hot and shower head was adjustable. I selected a room on the side of building which faced busy highway not knowing how the hotel was oriented. Because of the extra ridges on roadway I heard trucks going by almost all night. I know better if in area again. My wife and I both felt the bed was a little firm. We prefer softer. Breakfast was a step up from other Hampton's we have stayed in. First, there was packages of honey at coffee bar 24/7 for my wife's tea. For breakfast there is a carafe of infused water with fruit, packages of good salsa for the omelet, cinnamon flavored waffle batter, and an upgraded pastry selection. Check in was a breeze and the lovely lady working the evening I got into town was happy and just extremely pleasant to deal with. she got me on my way in a few moments after I arrived. Rooms were good sized and very clean- as were all areas of the establishment: Common areas, hallways etc. Bed was comfy, and the hot water was hot - without having to wait forever. Perfect. In the morning, they offer what I would say is one of the best free breakfasts I've had in quite some time. Coffee was not only hot, but tasted very good - a rare find these days. The hot offerings changed daily and pretty much every dietary preference was covered in some fashion. the folks doing kitchen duty were obviously very dedicated to their jobs, and it showed. Round it all out with an indoor pool and fitness center as well as a small outdoor patio seating area, and you have a very good place to unwind after a long day of meetings or whatever it is that brings you to town. Management also hung up with him when they were discussing how his legs were covered in flea bites. In all fairness, maybe the manager was receiving a call from someone else who was bitten by fleas. It's a contesting area where cars are coming off highway and it is the main road through town. At times it was the great convergence, all of the 100 residents, and every tractor trailer in the county occupied that same place and time. Sitting to make the left from out of "downtown" I felt bad as traffic built up behind us (a turn lane is logical solution). The other is the parking lot. It is situated on a rolling hillside. Rather than engineer a flat plateau, the builders just paved the undulations of the existing lands. I felt like I needed to use the parking brake. It can't possibly be used safely in snow/sleet. The property conveyed a first impression of being recently renovated within the last couple of years, while having a good amount of parking throughout. The property is located adjacent to a Mason Lodge and up a slight hill, of which I found these surroundings to be super quiet. No issues with the room-slept like a rock, even on the weekend! The furnishings seemed to be new. One thing that I was highly impressed with was of the coffee machine at the front desk, which was a great investment by the owners since it seems to deliver high quality coffee. Certainly an easy 45-minute drive back and forth to Lancaster prior to departing. Will certainly return!
