I'm finally taking the time to leave an honest review, since the owner recently asked customers to…read moredo so. My experience with Lemon & Lavender has been disappointing, particularly given how the store presents itself. The staff generally come across as friendly at first, but I've personally had a few interactions that felt condescending and, at times, borderline rude. I have never been rude to any of the staff myself, so I've often left the store wondering why the tone of some interactions felt the way they did. One interaction in particular happened just the other day and has really stuck with me. I was paying for my purchase and jokingly said, "Don't you find this Needoh craze nutty?" This was after mentioning that I drive all over the city looking for Needohs for my child. The response I received, completely straight-faced, was essentially, "I wonder what's nuttier, the Needohs or the person running around the city." I was genuinely stunned. She later said she was joking, and I didn't make an issue of it at the time. I actually laughed it off and said, "Oh, don't worry, I am nutty for running around the city." But after I left, I couldn't believe that someone would feel comfortable speaking to a customer that way, particularly when that customer is standing there spending $50 on toys. And unfortunately, that isn't an isolated feeling. Almost every time I leave this store, I have the same thought: I don't really want to come back. My other major issue is the pricing. I have actually taken the time to compare Needoh and squishy prices at different stores across Toronto, and Lemon & Lavender, along with Mood, consistently comes out among the most expensive places I have found. Some items are priced at roughly double, triple, or even more than what I have seen elsewhere. I completely understand that an independent business has overhead and needs to make a profit. I have no problem paying somewhat more to support a local store. But there is a point where the markup becomes difficult to justify, especially when the same products can be found for significantly less elsewhere. I also understand that Needohs aren't always easy to find. That is actually part of the problem. My child loves them, and when there is a particular Needoh they really want, sometimes Lemon & Lavender is one of the few places where I can actually find it. That puts parents in the position of either paying the significantly higher price or leaving without the item their child wants. I have even had conversations in the store where I've mentioned that I find the prices expensive, only to have the staff immediately push back and tell me that it isn't true. But I have personally compared the prices at numerous stores. This isn't something I'm saying based on a feeling or assumption. The other issue for me is the owner's use of Instagram. I understand that social media is personal, and I have sympathy for anyone dealing with difficult family circumstances or the challenges of running a small business. But the store's Instagram is also the public face of the business, and I personally find the frequent posts about personal conflicts, negative comments, other local business owners, family difficulties, childcare, and other personal matters very off-putting. There have been instances where criticism or conflicts appear to be brought onto Instagram for thousands of followers to see, including calling out other businesses or people. Personally, I don't want to be involved in those kinds of personal disputes when I'm shopping at a children's toy and gift store. And unfortunately, I experienced this side of things myself. I previously contacted the owner politely about an issue I encountered during an online Needoh drop. I wasn't demanding anything or looking for compensation. I simply wanted to let her know that there had been an issue during checkout. I was subsequently blocked. That was particularly disappointing because constructive criticism and feedback are part of owning a business. I don't believe anyone deserves to be bullied or harassed, and I'm absolutely not advocating for that. But there is a big difference between bullying someone and politely pointing out a legitimate customer experience. Overall, I think Lemon & Lavender has a great concept and clearly appeals to a lot of children and parents. My own child loves Needohs, which is unfortunately why I occasionally still find myself shopping there despite my reservations. But between the prices, the customer-service experiences I've personally had, and the way the business is represented on social media, I have become much less inclined to support the store. This is simply my honest experience. The owner has asked customers to leave reviews, and I believe reviews should include the good and the bad -- not just the ones that are flattering.

Our experience cost us an extra 600$ and over two weeks of duress. The first delivery date was cancelled because of the complete lack of and outdated communication between the delivery department and us and we had to wait another two weeks to have the appliance delivered. When it was delivered the delivery men were not allowed to turn off the water for us we had to call the concierge only to discover that our water tap was stuck and wouldn't turn. They had to leave the new appliance in our hallway and so were unable to take away our old unit because we would be without a washer dryer. The two young delivery men were, professional, gentlemen, and knowledgeable. They were put in an awkward situation of not being able to complete their task while having to leave us equally frustrated and angry due to the complete lack of functional communication logistics and protocol between when we bought our unit in store and when it was delivered. We now have to hire a plumber to install the washer dryer and take the old one away at our extra time and money. I would write the correct protocol for Home Depot but I am tired of doing someone else's homework without any compensation. I have made billions of dollars for corporations over the years by writing in on their guest services websites and I am done paying my hard earned money to do someone else's job. For what it cost us, next time I need an appliance I will buy American because the cost will be the same and the service will be better. Don't waste your money at Home Depot anymore. The old grey mare is not what it used to be.

I know there's not much to know but I know even less. I went to Linen World because they had two feather pillows for $50 sale which is pretty good value. I saw one I'd picked up was Queen and asked if that's what I use on a double bed as I thought I was looking for "standard" size. I know you use Queen duvets and duvet covers so why not pillows? She told me she thinks they're the same thing and it would fit my pillow case, etc. Then I get home and realize I bought 1 standard pillow and 1 queen pillow. Now I'm an idiot for not realizing this, but how didn't she? It's your big sale item advertised in the window and you don't know you have both sizes available? All sizes are thrown in on the same shelf? I'm allowed to be dumb about this stuff but you work at a bedding store and don't know there's a difference between standard and Queen pillows? Now I have 2 different size pillows on my bed and it will drive me crazy forever and ever :)

Funny how a small shop like this calls itself Linen World, while huge box stores try to make themselves sound all cute and snuggly with names like Linens 'n' Things. However, Linen World beat out the box stores when I was just recently trying to track down a good breakfast/TV table for a bedridden relative. It was the only place that had a breakfast table (essentially a tray with stubby little legs), and it was even on sale for $40. Granted, it was still a bit flimsy at that price, and the only one in the shop, but beggars can't be choosers.

A little shabby chic furniture shop in the Junction. I was drawn to it the day it opened when I saw…read morethe faded paint and wooden patina on the furniture items in the windows. The furniture is all made by the owner and apprentices in the back of the shop. They use wood from local demolitions, such as the old bowling alley east of Keele on Dundas. Then they incorporate recycled hardware to give all the pieces that used or industrial look. Furniture items include dining tables, side boards, end tables, french provincial cupboards and islands for kitchens, coat racks, mirrors, desks and they do custom jobs as well. Each piece is unique. I wanted to like this place but after a few visits I have had a change of heart. A lot of the items have an obvious faux-finish look to them, which I am not a fan of. I like most rustic looking, antique-ish items and things here look way too 'assembled' to me. I find the prices are inflated, especially considering we're dealing with recycled materials here. The price for certain types of not especially interesting or scarce pieces of wood for table tops is ridiculous. I'd sooner drive out to a country auction and buy my own barn wood. I've also found dealing with the owner to be trying, as mentioned in all the other reviews. He doesn't have good customer manner and hasn't hired anyone to deal with the front of the house for him(he really should). Him and his one staff member usual just ignore you as you shop unless you demand their attention. On one occasion, when I was in the market for a custom harvest table, he fought me in just a discussion about the style and design I was looking for. I wanted turned, recycled wooden table legs and he thought this was odd and traditional sounding, trying to sell me on straight metal or wood legs. It seems like he just wants to make his own furniture to his own taste. I left without ordering or buying anything. I would prefer to give my business to someone who wants to make the table I want!

I bought something here, and now regret it…read more Walking around the junction, my wife and I found this cute little store and were immediately drawn to a small church pew. How cool would it be for our house guests to have a place to sit while they remove their shoes, we thought. He offered the pews in various sizes, from about 3' to 5' or so, and in two colours, natural or stained. The stained unit looked decent overall, and would match well with our existing furniture; however it didn't appear to be done very well. It looked rather blotchy. The natural wood looked pretty good, kind of what you would expect the actual church pew to look like, so we decided on that. He promised it would be ready in 6 weeks, and we paid a $200 deposit and walked out. Afterwards, we headed over to Metropolis Living, where we purchased an original metal Catholic offering box as well as a metal "Funeral Parking Only" sign that used to belong to a funeral home in Ohio. Yeah, we're a bit weird, but we thought they would be a nice addition to the pew. Six weeks go by, and no call from the owner. I called and was told they were behind and that it would be another week. Another week goes by now they say t'll be ready in 5 more days. One of the most important part of sales and running a business is the process of setting customer expectations. If you say you will deliver in 6 weeks, delivery in NO LESS than 6 weeks. Delivery in 4 weeks and we'll be overjoyed. Under promise and over deliver. This isn't rocket science. It was his second brutal failure in setting my expectations which led to my disappointment with his product and service and ultimately the reason for this review. Today we walked in to pick up the pew. Check out the finish product. http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/6662/photo2tf.jpg This only shows a few of these marks. They are where the screws went to attach the bench, filled with what appears to be some kind of wood putty. There are 6 on both sides. Since this isn't going in my garage, I asked "What is this? How is this even... I wanted to put this in our HOUSE. How is this even finished??" http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/6793/photoizt.jpg Why is there a gigantic gash in the left side? And how is this acceptable? I walked out to grab my wife so she could see it. I said nothing to her, so I could get an unbiased opinion. "Well, we could sand that and make it darker no?" She said. "Isn't that what they're supposed to do? How is this presentable?" Then I showed her the deep gash and she said "Um, no..." At this point the owner is highly agitated with me. "This is how it's supposed to look. Nobody ever complains. Starbucks buys these all the time, and we have sold over 100. Everyone loves them. You just don't know what rustic looks like." Then he says he doesn't want to work with me and wants to refund my money. I'm pretty on board with this, but I'm pissed because I really wanted a pew (I've always wanted a pew, haven't you?), and here we've waited 8 weeks and are back to square one. I asked if we could take the dark, varnished one they have in stock instead. He agrees and sells it to me. Nearly 2 feet shorter and has also been splashed with epoxy, so there were drip marks. While he pointed these out to me, and DID offer to re-varnish it for us, I accepted it as is. I didn't want to wait another 8 weeks and figured I could just do it as a project at home down the road. I really just wanted to get the hell out of there and never talk to him again. He didn't offer to give us a lower price, so I paid the full amount and walked out, another satisfied customer. This could have all been avoided had he said something like: "If you go with the natural colour, you'll have big splotchy marks on both sides, and they'll be a big ugly and really noticeable gash on the inside." Obviously, we'd have said no. As a side note, while somewhat of a likeable guy initially, he's rather unprofessional and unhelpful. As the owner, that's his prerogative, but it's a bit strange. The first time we came in there, he never asked if we needed any help and his female assistant was equally uncongenial and standoffish. If you end up buying here, make sure you ask a lot of questions since you won't get a lot of information up front.
