I came in with a more challenging pattern than I've ever done and no idea where to start. Ben was super friendly and helpful. He looked over the pattern and helped me get everything I needed in terms of yarn and needles since none of the needles I have would work for this project. I really appreciated that he checked if I knew how to wind the yarn I bought (spoiler alert, no) so he explained how I could do it at home and then wound it for me in the store. I'm really excited for this project - and also the next one, which I found by chance in the store and he printed a copy for me. I stopped into Have Ewe Any Wool and met Ben. He calmly took all my thoughts into consideration and gave me valuable tips. He told me how to get the gauge I wanted with the colors of yarn I wanted. What can I say about Have Ewe Any Wool? As soon as you walk in you sense the coziness and friendliness of the store. At a glance, the store is small. But if you look towards the back, you will see a set of stairs that leads into another room. They sell very high quality yarn. They offer a nice assortment of mohair and Alpaca. They tend to have a lot on sale too. If you look at the print-out patterns on the table, you will find some that are free with purchase. Don't forget to look for those! The store is surrounded by plushy lamb dolls and other lamby decor. It's quite cute and the wool is so soft. The customer service is very nice and experienced. read more

I LOVE this place! This is the only yarn shop locally that I patronize and rarely do I step foot in JoAnn ever since I found this cozy little shop a few years ago. Exceptional yarn and fantastic selection. If there are not enough skeins, Linda, the owner, will order more for you. Sometimes her husband is in the shop and he is the designated "yarn winder" -he takes the skein of yarn and places it on a large bobbin and winds it into a ball. He's very pleasant to talk to. One thing that could use some attention is the website -it has sort of a "homemade" feel to it and I don't find it to be useful except to find out where the shop is located and how late they're open until. I find it to be a very relaxing experience to visit Have Ewe Any Wool, and I always walk away satisfied. read more

This yarn shop is wonderful. They have a lot of the famous luxury yarns, like Rowan kidsilk haze, Misti Chunky Alpaca, and so on, as well as a great selection of the many hues of Cascade 220 and Lamb's Pride. So, a good mix of the high-end and standard. There was one person working there when I went, and she was very helpful and pleasant to talk to. She didn't have the habit that so many yarn shop ladies have of ignoring one because one is under the age of 40. She even went searching for the roving in the backroom when I asked about it, and called the owner to determine the pricing when it wasn't marked. She also told me they were expecting a shipment in a few days, rather than let me buy something if something better was going to come along. I usually use Cascade 220 as my gauge for a yarn shop's pricing. Of course I've forgotten it, though. But it was more than it costs in Ithaca, but less than it costs in Boulder, for what it's worth ^^ read more

I'm brand new to yarn shops, so I really can't get too much into the types of yarn available, however, what I can add is comments about the customer service. I first stepped foot into this yarn shop in December 2009. At the time, I was with a knitting pro who immediately hit it off with the owner, Linda. We were greeted at the door and Linda asked how she could help us and offered to show us around the store if we wanted a tour. We choose to just browse since we really had dropped in more out of curiosity than for a project mission. In January 2010 I returned to this shop and signed up for beginner crochet lessons. It was $35 for three 2-hour sessions. The sessions were wonderful. There were only two of us taking them and our instructor was fabulous. The one on one attention left me with three stitches under my belt and one project in swing (a baby blanket). Although my crochet lessons are finished, I have stopped in once or twice in the past month just for the atmosphere. Someone is always sitting in the front room chatting with others while working on knitting or crochet projects. When you walk in the front door, it's warm and welcoming and they invite knitters, crocheters, and yarn enthusiasts of all ages. This shop has the best selection, quality, ambiance, knowledge you can ask for! The shop is organized, neat and clean. The projects are endless (I went in once just to buy needles and managed to buy a kit for a beautiful shawl I gave to my daughter for Christmas). Linda is beyond knowledgeable. This is a boutique-y yarn shop in many ways: it's small, local, and the owner is usually very helpful. I typically visit to purchase yarn for small projects. If you'll be using your yarn right away, they're happy to wind the yarn into a ball with a handy tabletop winder, if the store is not too busy. (The signs around make it clear that if you want to sit and knit the yarn must be purchased there, which I assumed was obvious, but apparently not.) The shop can feel a bit cliquey if you enter when ladies are sitting and knitting, so if you're an introvert, try to get there at their off time. The best yarn to buy at Have Ewe Any Wool is any of the large variety of high quality wool or other natural fibers, for although they do sell various acrylic yarn, that's stuff you can purchase at the craft stores for less. The selection at Have Ewe Any Wool makes it hard to decide which to choose, since there are so many textures and colors. I've observed limited quantities, but if you're making a large project, they'll order for you if need be. There is also a decent selection of buttons -- FUN buttons, although some are quite expensive due to the artisan nature of them. But icing on the cake! read more

They ALWAYS offer to wind your yarn....which I appreciate because the only other yarn store close by has a strict policy that they do NOT wind your purchase. I started shopping here August 2011, a few months after I started knitting, and love the wide variety of yarns and other supplies. Took a great sock knitting class (great instructor Maryann) last fall.
