Not bad, but not great. I booked an appointment with Elisha for my bangs. I have a regular stylist up in Beaverton, but her schedule and my schedule makes it really difficult for impromptu services in between the regularly scheduled color sessions. I decided I had enough of the way my curtain bangs were styled, and I wanted to have some modification to make them a style I felt more confident with. I picked Elisha because of her experience and style and thought that she would be able to give me a bang change that was trendy and fit my face. When I got there, Elisha said it would be just a minute, and she was working on another client. I thought that was a bit odd, given that she had changed my appointment time to 15 minutes earlier than what I had requested, but I wasn't too worried as it was just a bang trim/appointment. However, another stylist was checking out a different client, and after she was finished, she looked at me and said, "Are you ready?" I was confused, as I had specifically requested Elisha, but I certainly didn't want to be rude, especially for such a minor appointment and for something that was so low in cost. Interestingly, enough, most places will do a bang trim for five or $10, and this salon was a $25 minimum. Again, I knew this going into it, but I was fine with it, because I felt that I would be in good hands and even if the service was five dollars, I probably would've taught tipped double or triple if I had walked out of there feeling really good about what the stylist had done. The stylist wasn't 100% sure of what I was wanting, based on the pictures I was giving her, and that's understandable. I left with bangs that were OK. Certainly not the experience I was hoping for, but that's not her fault. Overall, it was fine. I guess I just would have expected that if a different stylist was going to do my hair, even if it was a bangs appointment, that they would have notified me ahead of time and allowed me to reschedule if I wanted to. As I mentioned, and maybe this is my error but I did not want to cause an issue over a relatively minor appointment, though it wasn't entirely minor to me. I came to this salon from recommendations of friends. I had been doing my own color for years but as I was getting older, my hair started to change and needed professional attention. Elisha was and continues to be a miracle worker. Somehow she knows what to do to make my hair feel and look amazing- best it has ever been! Even the cuts are completely gorgeous. 2 months later - I saw Laurie again for a cut, color and style! Laurie is absolutely fantastic. There is so much to love about her from her artistic ability to her bright smile to her sunshine-y personality. She is like an old friend that you just want to spend time with and talk to! I will never go anywhere else. She really takes the time to listen to what you want, and then repeats it back to you to make sure you are both on the same page. She is so considerate and really goes the extra mile. Absolutely AMAZING place to be for all your hair needs! I got a Brazilian blowout done by Laurie ( I think that's how you spell her name? ) and was taken care of very well. We had a good time talking and I was treated like family, which is pretty important to me. The ONLY thing I will say that could be worked on is my appointment started 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment time and nobody said anything to me about why they were running late so I started off with a little anxiety because I had to pick my kids up from school. But I think just about everywhere you go, it's expected that your appointment time will never start on time so I can't be too upset about it. My mom retouched her roots, and she was very happy with their service. They are very friendly and welcoming.

I lost half of my hair and the rest is damaged due to my stylist Laurie who beached my hair one week prior to lift the dark brown from my hair to one week later bleaching it again but leaving it in my hair 47+min. About 20 min into the heat lamp, my hair was burning and I alerted her. She said it was just the machine, I was taken off the machine but the foil/bleach was left in my hair for another 28 min. I have a time stamp from my first selfie then texting later stating I still had it in my hair and she's working with someone else, after she finally got to me. She blow dried my hair and I watched my hair literally blow off of me. I went in with long one length hair to multiple different lengths. Ranging from pixie hair length, to my ear, to my collar bon, to where my original length was. She will not take blame for the burning of hair or how long she left it in my hair and she won't admit to working on another client affected my hair. She had my self and another client in bleach. She also made the other client wait in bleach while she blow dried my falling out hair. I looked down and saw a huge clump of my hair. I paid $1,000 for three appointments. When I asked for a refund for just the last appointment, $400. she tried using my small talk to justify getting my hair blonde In a short amount of time. I never gave her a time frame. It was her job as a professional to say no if I did ask for a deadline. Again she will not justify why it was left in so long, especially after I told her I smell burning. I paid too much for my hair to be ruined, when I tried talking to her about it, she yelled at me, had smart remarks to me "apparently you know about hair and I do not!" I feel she was very unprofessional when it came to our discussion. read more

I was visiting Salem for the weekend and had some extra time, so I decided to get my hair cut. I walked into Havana and they quickly booked me for an appointment that day. The ladies in the salon were very kind and the customers seemed really happy with their hair. My hair looks beautiful as well. Although I had a great experience with the hair dresser, the salon wasn't the cleanest. The hair products were unorganized and cluttered. Areas near the hair cleaning station weren't picked up. Then when we were going to start she notice marks on my head (I have a form of skin cancer). Well, she doesn't do cancer patients! She made that very clear.... The short of it--this was one of the two worst experiences I've had with a salon in over forty years, in respecting my requests, outcome, and customer service. I understand Caleb has a good rep, but I'd advise getting anything done by Ashley or Elisha in writing first. Their main expertise seems to be attaching chicken feathers. Concisely, I paid for blond highlights and Ashley dyed my hair a dark mousy brown and the owner lied and said that was what I asked for. The long of it, i.e., the experience on which my rating is based. Over the past few years I had had highlights done several times by different Salem salons--each of whom said they were not able to simply highlight new growth, as one stylist I had gone to before moving here had done without any difficulty. (Other stylists over the years, prior to Salem, had been careful not to overdo the previously treated areas.) The result from the Salem salons was that previously treated hair was getting rebleached each time, so I held off any treatment for 11 months. (John of Le Motive had done an excellent job of providing subtle enough highlights on my last visit that the regrowth looked fine, although, as he had told me, after 40+ years of being blonde, I would not like my own color--which proved to be correct as it grew in.) After interviewing several stylists about simply re-highlighting the new growth (and covering the gray underneath in the back that is not visible, so it had been ignored by previous stylists), I decided to go with Ashley of Havana. She convinced me that she did what the client requested and not what she decided privately, and we had an intensive consult during which she assured me she would have no problem doing just the roots. I really loved the color of my hair and several people had told me not to change it. I also realized it would be unlikely that she could get the roots exactly the same, so I asked her if she could just get it as close as possible and blend it in with my existing blonde. I also told her I had had a very stressful week and wanted as little change as possible to my hair. No problem. She just dyed my entire head dark brown, a mousy flat color even darker than my natural base. I was totally thrown off balance as I saw it, and she and Elisha kept telling me it was the color of the walls there making my skin/hair combination look so unflattering. When I got home and realized she had completely eliminated my blonde, I got progressively more disgusted. I called the salon and left a couple of messages, as the salon was closed for a few days. I had read that it was important to remove dye as soon as possible, but I didn't want to do anything on my own. When Elisha called me back she said she could add some highlights, although that might damage my hair further. (The permanent dye left my ends really dried out--which I imagine has to do with their product.) When I complained that I couldn't understand why Ashley would dye my hair brown when I came in for highlights, Elisha--the owner--said she had 'heard me say I wanted to go back to my natural color'. Since I never said anything even close to that, I realized what I was dealing with at that point--a little late to save my hair. (It would have been hard for Elisha to hear anything, as it was, as her 20-month year old child had been running around the studio the entire time, unsupervised except for customers, and screaming part of the time. Quite cute but it didn't seem the safest situation for the toddler or respectful of the clients.) Things happen with color--although I don't feel anyone has the right to completely change you from blonde to brunette without permission--but the complete lack of concern for customer satisfaction, coupled with the ease with which the owner lied made me feel it was risky to go back for highlights. Interestingly, what Elisha was saying on the phone was so divorced from what I was saying, it gave the distinct impression she was saying what she wanted her staff or clients to hear, acting as if she was repeating words I had never used--like malicious. It was probably how it feels to try to stay on point with Casey Anthony. Just bizarre. She also tried to imply that because I complained about this I was paranoid, for starters. I asked for blonde highlights, had my hair dyed dark brown, and for this "I think everyone is out to get me"??? Methinks she's been working with too many dingbats from the chicken feather crowd. It was almost humorous to hear the words she made up in trying to sound intelligent, though, as a post facto check of her website shows is a running theme. If you enjoy paying money to people to experiment on your hair for their private enjoyment, this is the place for you. I'm out $118 plus tip, with an ugly dye job, so I'm not amused. At this point, I expect a slew of glowing reviews written by Ashley and Elisha's friends and family--all from reviewers with no previous reviews to their credit. read more

I used to go here to get my hair cut and yeah the girls are nice and do a good job but when I get charged $46-$61 STARTING and it could go up for a freakin' haircut! I am not asking for much but a small cut and it's over half a hundred dollars? Unbelievable. I don't get paid $61 for 30 minutes of my time. Worst customer service ever! If zero stars was an option I would have been all over that! I had purchased a groupon for this salon and when I contacted them they suggested I cancel the groupon and they'd still offer me the same deal. I went in for highlights and a trim. My deal included a deep conditioning which I never got and by the time all was said and done it cost me nearly $300. Not to mention I was there for nearly 6 hours. Part way through the stylist had to go move my car for me because the parking situation is bad downtown and I had been there so long she was afraid I would get a ticket. As if that wasn't bad enough, I had to go back to have them fix it - another couple of hours by the way that is once I was able to get in touch with them. I had massive highlights on one side and hardly any on the other or underneath. My hair looked awful! Then they used a different color to fix my hair jacking it up even more. I have a lot of naturally curly hair so I just went with that as the reasoning but honestly after reading some of these reviews it sounds like they are giving everyone the same story to get more money out of them. They are extremely hard to get a hold of. I tried calling and calling and even sent emails which went unanswered. The only reason I was able to get an appt to go in to have my hair fixed was because they did a follow up call about 2 weeks later to see how I liked my hair and I told them my issues. They didn't call back because of my voice messages or emails. Laurie who did my hair was very nice but the rest of my experience was not good. I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt even after all of this. It was time for a touch up and I figured I would give them one last try to make this all right. Again, left voice messages that were never returned. That was weeks ago and still nothing. I ended up going to another salon. The hairdresser asked me who did my hair because the highlights were a mess. A lot in some spots still and major areas with nothing. I didn't tell her anything before she looked at my hair and once she said that, I told her my story and what I paid. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON!!! For what they charge, they need to step up their game. Even a little customer service goes a long way and admitting you screwed up helps a lot. I wanted something fresh and new done with my hair and found Havana salon through groupon. I called and asked if they would be willing to substitute the offer on groupon (color/cut) for an ombre/cut. This was one of the few salons who were willing to do the substitute at a small fee. This was the best haircutting experience of my life! I have crazy long hair, and it took almost three hours to color, cut and style my hair. Jessica Schaefer made it such a fun and enjoyable experience. 1st I would like to say that i NEVER write reviews for anything but i feel like i need to do this. Anyway, i was in contact with Elisha (the owner) thru text & i expressed to her the way i wanted my hair (i was going from a maroonish color to a light brown) she explained that it would be a process but indeed she would make it happen, not exactly as the picture id shown her but it would be similar, I agreed. the day i went in for this to happen (03/07/16) she let me know it would be a $350 charge because of the "process", i dont mind spending the $ but for a job done right (after talking to several other stylists they all almost fainted when i told them i paid $465 total for the service, a shampoo & conditioner, i know i know im dumb for even swiping my card & not investigating prices elsewhere beforehand smh) anyway she started & everything was fine up until my scalp started to LITERALLY burn so i get up & let her know, she washes the bleach out & tells me that the cause of this is because i dyed my hair 7-8years ago with box dye & that she can no longer go on with the process because of this & i would have to wait at least 6 months but for a fee she can do keratin treatments so my hair can be restored. Not ONCE did she take the blame & even said thru text "its out of my control". The whole time after the incident happened all i kept hearing was "next time you come in we can do this for this much & this for that much but you have a lot of hair so it'll be extra." I wanted to cry but i held my composure. The next morning i wakeup with SCABS YES SCABS all over my head, i freaked out so i texted her. She tells me "blah blah blah just condition your hair." I go see a different stylist to ask her wtf is on my head & what can i do, she tells me theres no way it was box dye from 8 years ago & she felt so bad. I go see Elisha personally the same day to show her what happened over night & again not once did she take the blame nor at the very LEASToffer to fix my shitty hair or reimburse me some if not all of my money. I literally left in tears because i just couldnt believe what had happend to my scalp, hair & all the money i just threw away (As advice she told me to take advil though, yes advil lol). A few days have gone by & she hasnt even bothered to at least reach out or ask how her mess on my head is doing. This whole experience has been horrible & my hair is falling out. Ive gotten in contact with the state to see what could be done, if at the very least they can keep this on record. If you do decide to go in there because of all the "rave & good reviews" be aware that you will come out of pocket for her mistakes & she will not take blame if she messes up because shes perfect at what she does & she went to Paul Mitchells schools of beauty. read more
