I know. Right? So by now, my colorist is properly exasperated with me for destroying his creations. I honestly don't blame him. He spent hours on me due to the care and precision of formula; he is an artist. Who is this génie de colour? His name is Oscar Beltran. He also gives amazing precision haircuts. 2023 - Review # 14

He apparently wasn't wearing his hearing aids and either didn't hear, or didn't care what I wanted. He also dyed my roots black and orange so it would look like I had low class druggy grow out. I asked him to fix it, and he put another coat of black dye on. Like he didn't care at all that I hated the way it looked. I also told him I didn't want my hair rip cut. That didn't stop him from randomly grabbing fist fulls of wet hair and hacking off six inches of once healthy hair. It will probably take at least a year to grow this out. I will also have to pay for color correction at another salon. I hate looking in the mirror. This cut added age and weight to my face. Charles is not a professional.

When I finally met Aryn and she began cutting my hair, I went from having an awkward looking haircut that had once been a partially shaved head to having an ultra feminine and ethereal haircut. I was amazed that my thick sometimes unruly hair could be tamed and look so... pretty! Aryn has a passion for her craft and a love for her clientele. She makes you feel welcome and seems like a cool older cousin that you could talk about anything with ;) Her astounding skill and her charming personality is what makes me scrap up my meager salary to drive from South San Diego all the way to Costa Mesa. I admit it is hard to do that as a college student but it is absolutely worth it every single time and worth every penny.

My last cut was back in May 2022, so it was time for a refresh. My hair was looking very flat, and was all just one length at this point. I was very excited knowing that Gary was taking appointments. I booked online the night before, and the process was just so easy. The new space is incredible, such a gorgeous location and is truly an experience. The natural lighting, the grand windows, the big open layout!! I seriously love it all. It does not feel like a typical Portland studio/salon at all. Coming to Gary is like catching up with an old friend. He knows how to make you feel welcomed and at home. In terms of my hair, I asked to still keep my length, but add more texture and face framing pieces. The cut is exactly what I was looking for, and honestly is even better than I could have expected. I love that the whole process never feels rushed, and I walk away feeling so confident!!!

I went first and while my hair cut isn't hard it is a mens cut and often I find that barbers do a better job. However Summer knocked it out of the part. She was careful with details and understanding what I wanted. Overall it was one of the better cuts I have had. After mine cut she did my wife who has very very long hair but also an undercut. We came in for the undercut but she did end up getting 4" cut off to ensure that the hair remained healthy. It was a good suggestion. Overall we were very happy with our cuts, level of service and skill. We will be back!
