(But also, support local businesses and try and buy classes too if you're able!) I took two classes this week - one with Kathy and one with Brenda. Both instructors were so welcoming and kind. Both classes were challenging (but accessible!). I enjoyed both classes a lot - Kathy's sculpt yoga class had me hobbling the next day, and Brenda's class had me challenging myself to try poses I hadn't before. She also had a message at the beginning and end of class about making sure to focus on you're "want to be" list (strong, brave, kind, loving, etc) versus your "to do" list. I love this. In both classes, it seems as though there's great community - a lot of the women seemed to know each other and were excited to take classes together. I hope that if I were in the area, I could be a part of this uplifting environment. The studio itself is clean, has great AC, and has lots of windows to look at trees while you're trying not to fall over in your own tree pose. They also have blocks, straps and I think some mats available. I look forward to coming here if I'm ever in the area again.

I spent all day yesterday in airports,…read moreflying, a 2 hour drive, spent last night in too soft of a bed, & badly needed to get stretched out today. I am now so much more energized & limber after her class. She has a lovely, light filled, clean studio on the second floor. There is plenty of free parking. She has a friendly, helpful assistant & had yoga mats to borrow, & very cute yoga clothing for sale. Overall, an excellent studio to practice yoga. As a chiropractor, I've found that light resistance weight training three times a week for just 20' & yoga for 2-3 days/week are the most important ways to keep healthy, fit, & have lasting energy. It was very new-agey and some people like that, but we wanted to focus more of the fitness aspect and the coaches seemed largely unconcerned with correcting form, mixing up the flows, etc. Seems like they just use it as a platform to pretend to be all-knowing, not for me. We emailed and asked if we could cancel and they said yes. I'd not signed anything that said I was locked in for a year. They did the usual sorry to see you go/is there anything we can do, but ultimately they ended up canceling my membership. I stopped going. The next month they charged me. So I went in and asked about it, and the woman told me it was a mistake, she was super apologetic and said they're refund me that money and make sure it's cancelled. It's been SIX MONTHS and they are still charging me. I've called and emailed multiple times, I've had my credit card company refute all the charges, and they're still doing it. The last time I caller them the person who answered hung up on me when I gave my name. I urge you not to sign up here unless you want a Don't Worry Darling situation where you end up staying there for life. A horrible business. Horrible customer service. For a product that's over-priced, and not even good at what it claims to be. Wish I could give a 0.

Not only did the class have me feeling refreshed and challenge, but the vibe inside was everything. The people were dope, the instructor was even doer. The music was incredible, and I actually felt comfortable moving in my body in the way that made sense. Obviously, I couldn't get into everything in the way that I wanted, but it wasn't like other classes, where you feel pressured to. This class was dope. A few things: 1) take your shoes off after entering and put them in the cubby. 2) put your stuff in the lockers in the locker room. 3) know you can shower after if you would like 4) sweat your butt off! They have memberships, and they use ClassPass. I would highly recommend!

I've supported the business for years and paid for countless of my clients to practice there but the smugness and disregard in fixing issues when they arise and their lack of professionalism is like none I've seen in true yoga practitioners. Years ago, Kendra's true care for women in general was revealed when, unlike all of her counterparts, she decided to commit to the Bikram person and his name despite his proven mistreatment of women. She indicated that it was of no consequence to her. This is the same person who shared her anger that Black women support the "white" yoga studio on H street, not realizing that the owners there are far kinder than she has ever been to Black women as they have opened up their studio to disadvantaged women that I serve for free, while she charged hundreds of dollars to serve the same community. The last straw for me was when one of her teachers accidently signed me up for a direct debit program and even after showing proof that this was done, she continued to charge my card and refused to return my calls and emails to discuss. Character, honesty, and care matters. Kendra and Melanie operate with none of the above.

The instructor was a good hip hop dancer-- street style. The studio is shaped oddly so it's not best for moving fully and freely for so many people. I volunteered here a few years ago with their seva program and it was a lovely way to get free classes through a minimum volunteer requirement of one shift a week! I completed my prepaid package without being notified beforehand, and only after my session was I informed that I owed for a single session. My concern was never about paying--it was about not being given the opportunity to make an informed decision before the service was provided. Rather than acknowledging that better communication could have prevented the situation, the response focused on telling me that I should have been monitoring the app myself. Businesses can absolutely expect customers to use their app, but that doesn't replace basic customer service. A simple heads-up before the session would have avoided the entire situation. On a positive note, Brittany has been fantastic. She's thoughtful, knowledgeable, and has been incredibly mindful of my recovery after surgery, always adapting my workouts appropriately. She's the reason I'll continue training here.

This was my first yoga class in the DMV & North Virginia since I moved here. I found the yoga class online and checked out the website of the yoga studio. I signed up for class online at the yoga studio's website and received a confirmation email of my reservation for the class. The studio was easy to find and is in a very nice residential area in an outdoor shopping center. Lots of free parking. The drive there was very easy, no traffic, and had nice views of the Potomac River & beautiful residential areas along the Mt. Vernon Trail. Shannon Cody, the yoga instructor, was very kind, empathetic, knowledgeable, and easy to understand & listen to as a yoga instructor. Upon entering the yoga studio, she checked me in and guided me through the studio. Before the class started, I told her in private of how my hip & leg was still healing from surgery and how I was instructed by my surgeon to avoid certain poses that might misalign my hip & leg. She took notice of it and understood. Shannon exuded warmth and peacefulness throughout the class. She quietly instructed and allowed every one to take modifications for certain yoga poses and how to use the yoga blocks to assist & modify certain poses. She went from beginner level to intermediate level yoga stretches and body movements. The class is very beginner friendly for people new to yoga despite the integration of more advanced level poses. Time seemed to fly swiftly during the yoga class. Shannon integrated some intermediate level/ balancing, standing, & strength yoga poses in the class and showed how to use the blocks for modification. Ardha Chandrasana (Half Moon Pose ) and Airplane Pose (Dekasana or Warrior III with Airplane Arms) were my favorite poses during the class. It was difficult putting weight on my right hip & leg (still healing), so I put effort yet less stress on that side. When the class ended, everyone was able to get their own mat sanitizer bottle & cloth at the supply station to clean their yoga blocks & mats. I liked how the bottles and cloths were personalized with the studio's logo. I left the yoga studio and class feeling accomplished, refreshed, and calm. Overall, I was very satisfied with the cleanliness of the studio, my yoga instructor's efficiency, energy, ease, & professionalism, and the flow of the yoga class. I would highly recommend coming to the community class and taking yoga classes in this studio. Presently, they have an introductory offer for new clientele: $39 for 7 day pass to classes there.The pass is activated on the day you purchase it. I plan to take more classes in Jess Purtell Yoga Studio and look forward to going there in the future.

The awesome facilities, the comraderie, and the variety of classes and teachers keep me coming back year after year! The teachers get to know you and genuinely care about your success and health. They keep things fresh with fun themes, music, and pop-up events and workshops, but they also offer traditional posture classes throughout the week if that's your vibe too. Or, you can do them ALL. (all is good!) My best physical self and mental health always includes frequent classes at Bikram Yoga Rockville. I come here right after work as I head north on 270--you can see it from traffic! So why not pop in and pass rush hour in zen instead?
