Miso soup w prawn head.
Kristyn W.

This is my hands-down go-to place for sushi. Everything is always fresh and light on your palate. Service is on point and the ambiance is perfect for the classic dine-in experience when wanting to wind down after work. Just a heads up (although I may be condemned for this) do not order from the regular menu. Order from the chalkboard which has their daily specials. You have to try their live prawns, black cod and golden-eyed snapper. They do have a sushi pizza that is delicious but beware if you don't want to fill up fast then go ahead and order it.

Hashigo Sushi is one of the best sushi spots in Huntington Beach, offering an authentic and high-quality Japanese dining experience. The restaurant is well-known for its incredibly fresh fish, with many customers describing it as some of the freshest sushi in the area. The sushi and sashimi are beautifully presented and full of flavor. Popular items like bluefin tuna, salmon belly, and specialty rolls stand out for their rich taste and excellent texture. Every dish feels carefully prepared, showing the chef's attention to detail and passion for quality. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for both casual meals and special occasions. Service is friendly, attentive, and professional, making the overall dining experience even more enjoyable. With strong ratings around 4.4-4.6 stars and consistently positive reviews, Hashigo Sushi is a reliable choice for anyone looking for fresh, delicious sushi and great service. Overall, Hashigo Sushi is highly recommended for sushi lovers who appreciate freshness, presentation, and authentic Japanese flavors.

Sashimi plate

Fish was fresh. Salmon and fatty tuna were good. Oddly enough the quality of the salmon sashimi in the dinner platter versus the sashimi platter were not the same. The sashimi platter was superior. Oyster and uni were fresh, but I like my oysters muddier. These were very clean tasting, which is fine, if that is your jam. Service was great. The waitress brought out miso soup for everyone because the kids were eyeing my soup. The birthday ice cream were both high quality with a lot of flavor. Overall, this place is on the higher side in terms of pricing.

9/25 lunch special-Sushi combo

Stopped by for lunch with my MIL. Gotta say, this place is great! So my MIL grew up in Hawaii. They would go down to docks to buy their fish fresh off the boats. She was VERY pleased with her lunch choice (lunch Sushi bar combo). She might be old, but eating yummy food is still her fav food thing in the world. She raved at the freshness of her fish! Nice thick slices of salmon, maguro & hamachi(?). "Oh this is too much food! I can't eat all this!". 20 mins later her plate was clean! Except for the side salad, which I brought home and had for a snack later. My choice of the bento lunch box was also great. Grilled salmon atop julienne carrots & snap peas. VERY GOOD. The assorted tempura was also great. A couple shrimp, shishito pepper, kabocha, nice thick onion slice. Man oh man, they do a really nice job. Reminds me of Carlos Junior in Torrance. Salad was nice, but the star of the bento was the RICE! Yeah it's just rice... NO! This rice is special. Each separate grain, REALLY white. A lot of care went into washing, steaming this rice. Asked our server, Colin. Yes they told me it's very expensive & it's from Japan. Well, it shows. Because it's REALLY good. My usual brands I use at home are Tamanishiki or Kotohira. Mid to higher grade from Tokyo Central. I wash it and cook it in my Zojirushi. Even if I cooked my rice in a Donabe, it would still be home cooked pretty good rice. Not like the rice they serve here. Which is outstanding. When an establishment takes the extra step with rice (as a sushi restaurant should), it shows the care & pride they have sharing what they prepare for their guests. I love this place. Next time gotta come with a couple girlfriends paying with our dime, not as a guest.

Excellent selection. Every piece tastes very fresh and soft. Uji was very welcoming and funny chef.

Miso butter fish

Truly I would give it a 3.5. service was fantastic - everyone was super friendly and welcoming, and the wait staff were truly amazing. The miso butter fish? Absolutely incredible! Seriously, that dish alone was worth the trip. However, the overall experience was a bit of a mixed bag. The prices felt a little steep, especially considering the food quality. It was all good, don't get me wrong, but not mind-blowingly amazing. We even got a little surprised by the edamame charge - we thought it was complimentary! And for the price we paid (almost $200 for two, no alcohol!), we could've treated ourselves to a splurge at a fancier sushi place.

OMG, Am I back in Japan?! F O O D So damn good. Sashimi was so fresh and they are generous with their protein servings unlike so many other sushi places. We got the Hashigo Sashimi Sampler, Salmon Skin Salad and a bunch of Nigiri. The sampler came first and let me just say the signature sauces with the 'melt in your mouth' sashimi was the tell that we'd be back again and again. Salmon skin salad and nigiri have been our staples as well since we've been back! S E R V I C E Elite. Everyone is so friendly and attentive; from the greeting at the door to the table and if you're lucky the sushi chef if you're seated at the sushi bar! It seems like they all work together as a team to give the customers the best experience possible. V I B E S Again, reminds me of Japan. Love that they have a sushi bar but they also have tables as well as outdoor seating that IS covered. It's not super bright in there which also gives mellow, loungey, and casual atmosphere.

Had an amazing experience while seated at the bar! We got a variety of food items and everything was so fresh and delicious! The pizza pie was so yummy, the crispy rice was perfect and had the right amount of tuna topping! The miso cod was soooo yummy, will definitely be getting this again! We tried three different nigiris and the salmon was my favorite, it was so fresh and soooo buttery! The quality of the fresh fish here is amazing! Definitely recommend this spot. The service was amazing, we felt very well taken care of.

WhereTF have I been strikes again! I had been to related Hashigo Korean Kitchen (now closed) many times, but I had never been to Hashigo Sushi in my own back yard until a recent Fri night: Shame on me! Its located on Main near Beach in HB. The three of us sat at the sushi bar, and we were glad we did. Our chef, Ryo was super nice, and had expert skills. My two fave dishes were the amaebi w/ quail egg & roe, and the hotate w/ uni & caviar. In addition, he also suggested unagi w/ sea salt vs the traditional sweet sauce. It was so nice to enjoy the unagi w/o the sauce. Hashigo is big w/ a large sushi bar, and tables inside and out. When we left around 7 pm the place was packed. Our waitress was also super nice, and took care of our sake needs. She also gave us free ice cream (lychee or green tea). My two dinner companions are sushi snobs: They only go to high end places. They were (as I was), very impressed w/ the quality of the fish, Ryo's knife skills, and the excellent service. My dinner companions are already planning for a return visit w/ more friends.

Came back yesterday after quite some time and was as good as ever. Had another go with the shiso leaf special and as I recalled, still to die for! Also got some new sake on the menu and coupled perfectly! Great to see Jimmy and Long again!

Absolutely love this place! I've been here many times, and it never disappoints. I love their food, cozy and spacious atmosphere, and great service. I'll be coming back many more times for sure!

Fresh, very fresh, sashimi

This is truly traditional Japanese food, with actual Japanese sushi chefs. They care deeply about the selection and freshness of their fish, and it comes through in their meals. Great, chilled atmosphere, and service.

ThomaS T.

Service was good. Everyone was all smiles for my first time. I think I've been spoiled by other sushi shops because I expected more from the soft shell crab roll. The salmon sushi was buttery and melted. The company I was with enjoyed their meal. I do have to agree with one of the posters that the rolls were dull and lacked flavor depth. I might come back to try their sashimi one day.

Parking: Super easy lot parking right outside restaurant in a large shared plaza Service: Incredible - everyone greeted us when we came in, we were seated immediately, they were very on top of my water refills, plates were efficiently cleared after each course, they explained each course well, and there were no long gaps between courses. They even provided a candle on my mom's dessert for Mother's Day. I also appreciated them checking on our wasabi preferences in the beginning before our meal, as I usually forget until it's too late. Each detail made a big difference on our enjoyment of the meal. Really pleasantly surprised by how impressively smooth and well-run the service was. Food: Yellowtail carpaccio - ponzu sauce had some olive oil that went so well with the yellowtail Octopus cucumber appetizer - delicately sliced and was a refreshing bite with yuzu sauce Unagi chawanmushi - so well cooked with a depth of flavor incorporated into the perfect texture and unagi added another layer of flavor and texture that balanced it out Nigiri - grouper was tender, ocean trout had amazing flavor, amberjack more firm, striped jack also firm, seared halibut fin was my favorite with flavor and tenderness, and albacore with garlic oil was melt in mouth buttery Chirashi - made with the the same fish as the nigiri, the marinated ikura was especially delicious Dashi broth - great palate cleanser that was light but still seasoned well Housemade matcha ice cream with honey castella cake (so good) and a strawberry slice was a great way to end the meal. Overall, $58 for a high quality 7-course lunch omakase was filling and worth it. I went on a weekend for their lunch set tasting menu. Everything was executed well, though the dishes followed a very consistent flavor profile throughout the meal. While it was all very good and high quality, don't expect anything experimental or wild. You will probably want to order a few extra items a la carte to feel fully satisfied. At around $225-$300 for lunch for two, the price tag feels a bit steep for a midday meal, but you are definitely paying for quality ingredients and a tasting experience.

Yet, we were seated right away. We ordered two types of ramen and the ramen flavors are similar, with slight variations. I loved the melt-in-your-mouth pork, the broth was hearty, and the noodles were slurpable. We even enjoyed their spiked Japanese selzters. [Missing noodles, expensive ramen, bad customer service, and no reason to come back.]…read more I visited this restaurant to place a to-go order and picked up my food during a late lunch around 1:40 p.m. I ordered two items, including a bowl of tonkotsu ramen. When I got back to work in Santa Ana and opened my bag around 2:30 p.m., my ramen had NO NOODLES. It was literally just broth and toppings. I called the restaurant expecting a simple apology and a reasonable solution. Instead, the manager would not even speak to me directly and chose to communicate through a waiter the entire time, which made the situation even more frustrating. We went back and forth multiple times with the waiter acting as the middleman. First, they told me I could come back and pick up the missing noodles. That was not realistic. I was already back at work, and it takes me about 25 minutes to get from Fountain Valley to Santa Ana. Driving all the way back for a side of noodles made no sense. So I asked for what seemed like the easiest and most reasonable solution: a complimentary bowl of ramen on my next visit. Instead, I was told no, but they could give me "extra noodles" next time. Extra noodles next time? What exactly was that supposed to do for me when I was sitting there hungry with no actual ramen to eat that day? Then the manager, again through the waiter, said she would personally drive noodles to my job. I even told them that did not make sense because by the time she got there, it would be around 4:30 p.m. At that point, my lunch break would be long over, the ramen would be cold, and all of it would be a waste of my time, her time, restaurant resources, and gas. But I agreed, because at that point it was obvious they really did not want to simply offer me a free bowl of ramen on my next visit. And to be clear, I was not asking for some huge free meal. I was asking to be compensated for the ramen I already paid good money for and did not even receive correctly. For how expensive ramen is, that should not have been a difficult ask. About 10 minutes later, the waiter called back and said the manager would give me a free bowl of ramen next time I came in, which was the exact solution I had suggested from the start. I can only assume she realized how far the drive was and how unnecessary and impractical that solution would have been. Mistakes happen. Forgetting the noodles was one thing. But the way this was handled was unnecessarily difficult, inconvenient, and honestly kind of absurd. I did not ask for a refund. I was looking for an apology and some common-sense customer service. Instead, I got a lot of back-and-forth and a manager who would not even speak to me directly. Kudos to the waiter for doing their best to mediate the situation. Even they thought the situation could of been handled differently by the manager. Very disappointing experience. I will not be returning, and I would not recommend this place to others based on how this situation was handled.
