Played a morning round at Harvey Penick to kick off the New Year and it was a great experience. It's a short 9-hole course, perfect for beginners or anyone looking to work on their game without feeling rushed. The greens are in excellent condition--honestly better than expected. It was pretty empty since it was New Year's, which made the round even more enjoyable. I used my new push cart and had plenty of space to play comfortably. Rates are very affordable, making it easy to come out often without breaking the bank. There's no clubhouse or fancy bar, so don't expect luxury--just bring your own water or energy drink and you're set. This place is all about golf, not extras. Overall, this is one of the best spots for beginners or casual players who want a relaxed environment to learn and improve. Found a new game,,, soccer golf! $16 per person on Saturday. It takes a couple of hours for 18 holes of soccer golf per group of four. It OSS definitely different. Same rules as golf only you kick a soccer ball. The holes have flags and the cups ore about 24 inches wide. Off you have ever played soccer and golf this is really fun. It is a great time out and you need no special equipment. You need what you normally wear, a pair of tennis shoes and a soccer ball. No soccer cleats it is still a gold course ands they don't want it tore up. What a great idea!!! read more

Where do I begin... So, we played Harvey Penick for my son's 25th birthday recently. First, I paid $150 for four tee times, not a big deal, Then I paid $30 a head for these 1995 gas powered golf carts that practically killed us with the carbon monoxide it was releasing, My golf cart literally backfired! The golf cart paths were dirt trails. By the end of the round, our golf bags were completely covered with dust. The course was in poor condition too. I will never spend another dime there again. The guys in the pro shop weren't very friendly either when I questioned their rates. read more

Great course to practice when it is quiet. Make sure you check the tee times before coming here. If its busy especially with foot golf think twice before booking a tee time. I think theres an overlap with golf and foot golf's tee time. We were stuck behind two families playing football golf for over 40 minutes and had to skip a hole to get out of the congestion. read more

I had one of the worst experiences ever at this place. I put BOTH in the notes and called at 10:22 before a 12:30 tee time to ensure there was a cart. I'm disabled and would be unable to play if I had to walk, so we took every measure possible to make sure we would be able to play. The person on the phone was rude, but ensured us we 'would be good'. When we got there he gave an insane amount of attitude and yelled "A DISABILITY"? you never mentioned that...but we did, twice. He then called us back and tried to ask who we talked to, etc. I can't believe this person is customer-facing at all. Aboslutely disgusting. The good - the course is in decent shape, and affordable as long as they don't screw you on the cart. read more

Pricing is great have nice benches if you want to take a break have lunch and go again . They also have soccer golf but yeah ok. Me and my son had a good time here! I just enjoyed 9 holes at Harvey Penick this past Tuesday. What a nice little gem of a course. Inexpensive, walkable, decent condition, surprisingly fast greens, mostly par 3 holes with a couple of par 4 holes sprinkled in. Nice little 3-hole part 3 course as well if you don't have time for 9, included with the purchase of a bucket on the driving range. Driving range could be improved a bit with smoother bays, but the downhill slope makes you feel like you are a strong golfer even if you don't hit very far. Just don't tell the out of towners about this lovely little course as they will attempt to get in a quick game before catching an 11am flight out. read more

What a fun course! My daughter and I wanted to get nine holes in, when here for the very first time... the place was jampacked mostly with young families. The two guys that we got paired up with had three little kids and a dog.... all riding in the same cart. It was pretty funny actually. And it was a super casual round for us, my daughter doesn't play a lot so the looseness of the course on rules and our playing partners made it a great day. This is a great course for kids. The greens are terrible and everything seems worn out. I get it, it's a municipal course and they just don't have a lot of money. Seems they've been trying to get more traffic on the course by adding foot golf. This seems to work out OK. I'm a purist and foot golf is not my thing, but the FG players have never been in the way or slowed us down at all. It would be great to see the City of Austin actually pump some money into this course. As Austin continues to grow towards the East, hopefully they will see the potential they have and do justice for the namesake. read more

Came here on august 3rd, 2018, for a tee time of exactly 4:50pm. The man in the office refused to rent us a golf cart, proceeded to get aggressive, telling me and my friends we were being difficult for wanting to rent a golf cart. Finally, after much deliberation, he said he would refund us and call the manager up, which we were okay with, given the circumstances, but then again, instead got aggressive and told us to just go ahead and play, because we were getting on his nerves, and verbally threatened us. Been here three times prior and never encountered such rude, aggressive service. It's a shame I won't be back, footgolf is a very fun game. read more

I have been there many times for Foot golf. This is the only course in Austin. I have had fun each time I have been there. I recommend to all to go and play. Don't need to have played soccer before. The first time you play it might be a bit difficult but you will get the hang of it soon. Stretch! You will sore the day after if you are physically active all the time. This is NOT a BYOB golf course. There is no alcohol allowed though. That is the one downside. For around $10 this is well worth the adventure. read more

I highly recommend ZEKE, he was patient and took his time explaining everything to me about the course, memberships, classes, etc. since it was my first time. Great prices! I was able to get a great deal on foot golf here! $12 per person and it included the golf cart. 18 holes took the two of us a little over 2 hours. Challenging but not to the point of frustrating! Definitely going back for more! Maybe once it cools off, because it does get quite hot. The staff was friendly and helpful in explaining the map. It's not as complicated as it seemed to be. If you like foot golf this is your course, for all us real golfers out there avoid, avoid ,avoid, and then avoid some more. This is a beginner 9 hole course with very poor greens and only 3 par four holes with the rest being par 3's. This is part of the first tee which is awesome, but I paid on golfnow.com to play a real course not this. Soccer balls were flying more than golf balls, so if you want to play soccer golf this course is definitely great for that and frankly I will return to do so! read more

So the dirty secret of golf is that it's played almost exclusively by elderly white males, and they're quickly aging out of the sport. Alright, so it's less of a secret than a statement of fact. Every year, for the past few years, dozens of courses around America close, while only a handful open. What's a golf course owner to do? Enter, foot golf. It's basically golf with no clubs, utilizing a soccer ball instead. This allows you to simultaneously move faster through the course AND annoy the folks playing real golf. Now that's a win-win! So is foot golf the best thing ever? eeeehhhhhhhhhh. kinda. It's infinitely better than real golf, our small group managed to move through 18 holes in about two hours, without a cart. Plus, Harvey Penick allows BYOB, so that's a huge plus. Unfortunately, I do have a few gripes about the course. Each of the regular golf holes are subdivided into two foot golf holes. So this means that every time you tee off, there are three flags in front of you, typically a few hundred yards away. Which are for golf, and which are for foot golf? Hell if I know. Sometimes you can make them out, sometimes you just have to guess and hope for the best. Secondly, the course design is pretty wonky. It starts off as a typical golf course, diverts over a concrete footbridge, then onto a paved bike path for a little bit, back onto the golf course, intersects with a hiking trail, back onto the green...you see where I'm going with this. The map on the back of the score card is a must, and even then it's a little confusing. The 11th, 12th, and 13th holes in particular all criss-cross each other, and after a while we gave up trying to figure them out. Protip: Bring your own soccer ball, otherwise it's a $6 rental. Since both regular golfers and foot golfers share space, pacing can be a huge issue. Most of the golf guys are there to spend an entire afternoon away from their wife, so their pace can be a touch...lackadaisical. Such was the case when we got caught up behind a group of 8 golfers on the 16th hole. Listen buddy, I know it's BYOB, but I've got a bar to get to, so if you don't mind speeding up the story about the time you wrote your congressman and just swing your damn club... Foot golf is definitely worth a try, and it's a solid way to spend a few hours, though I'm not in love with either the sport or the course. read more

Harvey Penick Golf Campus gets five stars because it's got a good heart. It's the home of the Head Start program, which helps underprivileged kids. Also, they have the greenest fairways and greens all year round. The prices are cheap and the grounds are very nice. PGA designed, baby. It's not your usual golf course, though. No carts. I think it's only a 9-hole course. It's more for the amateurs and the newbies that want to go out and play without being judged. There's also a very short par-3 course to practice your chipping and pitching. Very Austiny and right next to the YMCA in case you want to drop off the kids before a game. read more

Showed up at 5:30 on a Saturday a few weeks ago to hit some balls at the range and we're told rudely by a broham that the register is closed. We're a little confused since the sun sets just after 6, and dusk is around 6:20-6:30. Confused, we ask nicely if we could maybe pay in cash just to get a bucket of balls and the guy flatly says no, disappears, then returns in ~10 seconds and proclaims "make sure you don't bang on the window." We hadn't moved at this point, let alone touched a window. Clearly this guy had some things to do, none of which were being decent and closing down shop at the advertised time. Fortunately our friend arrived 15 minutes before and was cool enough to share his big bucket, which we hit for about 45 minutes (until we ran out). Then we celebrated our remaining 15-20 minutes of twilight by firing up our portable solar panels and livestreaming the energy capture event to broseph register guy. Jokes aside, super easy course and a good value. Driving range is pretty chopped up but it's cheap. Just don't expect anything resembling customer service. read more

OK let me rate this in 2 ways: 1. the customer service rep(s) who you pay: 1/5. why? after 3 calls to confirm tee time and reservation, we had no cart. so we started walking. then one guy brought half our players a cart. we play the hole. then we couldn't go. why? no key. i run up. he asks me if i lost the key or misplaced it. after a min, he tells us "oops here's the key." 2. course is 4/5. pretty darn good for public course. 3 ravines that make it hard! read more

Started going here to play foot golf since a group of friends had heard about it---been here 3-4 times now, Meredith and the staff are always organized and typically have a class or group they are teaching, along with the range and the course. Show up 10-15 minutes early and so far we've had nothing but a good time, no issues whatsoever. Looking forward to going back, good way to spend a few hours outdoors. read more

This is my new golf stomping ground. It has a great practice facility, constitantly good grass and a good putting and chipping area. They also offer a free par 3 course with purchase of range balls. The course is well maintained and is a great price. Its generally not that crowded as well which is nice! I'd rather go here and fun then spend an arm and leg and drive for 4 hours to get to one of the outlying goat ranches disguised as a golf course around town. read more

Only 9 holes but amazing greens and well kept fairways. The course is short but pretty quiet (not a lot of people around). I got the feeling its a course built for learning as its a lot of short par 4s and par 3s (no par 5s). The par for 9 holes is 30 I believe. More or less a par 3 course with 1 or 2 par 4's to get your driver involved. Awesome practice facility too. I like to go here to work on my mid to short irons. If there was a way to put ZERO STARS on here I would. DO NOT go to this golf course, it is a waste of your time and money. The grounds keeper and staff are rude, the place is expensive and quite frankly dangerous. Part of the holes are in the driving range so you have to wait until "the coast is clear" to get by. The course is not kept up well at all and it is way too expensive for what you get. I believe in the 1st tee program. My son was part of it and benefited from it, just not at this course however and I'm glad for that. If Harvey Penick knew how this course was run and managed he would roll over in his grave. This course is right next to the YMCA and it appears that it is run with a low-budget fitness center mentality "do the least amount of work and maintenance and try to attract the numbers". Grass is knee high or higher, greens are hacked, management is rude and oblivious to anything going on, phone calls are answered maybe occasionally if the help feels like it. The only way this course is going to be tolerable is if they change management and get someone interested in making that property something special for golfers and kids just starting out. Someone truly interested in making golf a good experience rather than just getting the money out of you and letting you lose to dodge balls on the driving range and wade through knee high grass with chiggers and poison ivy. read more

Booked a tee time for the morning and everyone in our group showed up. Problem was that no one who worked there showed up. We had someone drive close to an hour to be there just to have to go somewhere else. I even got an email the day before (at 5pm) reminding us of our booked tee time. If you're going to close for some reason when people have made plans to be there, you need to let them know. Letting them show up and figuring it out for themselves is ridiculous. read more

This course is really a pasture with some holes. We played 5 courses over Spring Break, and this was by far the worst one we played, nor was this the cheapest. All the greens were brown, without a speck of green grass. Not sure why all the greens were brown, the other 4 courses we played all had beautiful greens. The fairways had just been mowed, the cut grass was about 4" deep, you would hit your ball and never find it in the piles of cut grass left in the fairways. They either needed to pick up the piles of grass or mow the grass more often to avoid so much grass clippings. There are some nice challenging holes, but there are also some very short holes (too short). I dont normally mind short par 3 holes, but holes under 100 yards are just too short. If there was only 1 short hole, no problem, but there were several. The creeks definatly add a challenge to this course. Not sure I would ever play this course again, there are just too many other courses that are of better IMO, both for price & playability. read more

Super Fun Place! Showed up for the first time this passed thursday with a group of friends, not knowing what to expect, and turned out to be one of my best golfing adventures. We had plenty of time to play, almost no wait at all if any between holes, the course was in incredible condition especially considering its a non-profit course. The clubhouse has just about all the equipment you need in case you forget or need anything, and at a decent price as well. Not to mention its the ONLY Foot Golf course in the entire Austin area, so I'll definitely be looking forward to another great day at HPCG playing that as well. Horrible course for real golf. If it had been maintained even a little then it might have been a fun little course despite sharing the course with foot golf (there are so many flags and they're so poorly marked you can't tell which is for real golf and quick is for foot golf). We spent about 10 minutes at each hole trying to figure out which poorly marked tees where ours and where the correct flag was located that it made the whole experience annoying. Most of the tee areas were dirt and/or gravel and the greens weren't. Definitely won't be back. read more

I too had a terrible reception. The workers have no idea what customer service is, they give the head start program a black eye. Older employee yelled at my grandson for sitting in the drivers seat of the golf cart while I was buying sodas. They have no class at ALL. Now the course is a great little track, just what the kids need to practice on and advance. read more
