What stands out to us is that the care goes beyond the normal day-to-day. When our family member was hospitalized, we reached out to the Sunny Crest team for help communicating with the medical team. Brenda partnered with us and was willing to speak with the care providers and skilled nursing staff to better understand what would be needed for our family member's recovery and how Sunny Crest could support the post-care plan when they returned. Having them work with us and the medical team during that process meant a lot to our family and gave us peace of mind. One of the things that really touched us was seeing how genuinely happy everyone was when our family member returned. From the front desk and nursing staff to management and the restaurant staff, everyone seemed genuinely excited to see them and welcomed them back. It really felt like they were returning to a community where people knew them and cared about them. We also believe family involvement is an important part of assisted living. Sunny Crest is an assisted living community, not a hospital, a locked-down facility, or a memory care unit. Family members still have an important role to play by staying involved, advocating for their loved ones, and maintaining communication with the care team. We've found that Sunny Crest is willing to work with us as partners, and that makes a big difference. I witnessed residents being treated unfairly and neglected. It was heartbreaking to see how little regard they have for the wellbeing of the people they're supposed to be caring for. We knew he specifically needed to be in a memory care unit, and we are so thankful that Harbor Heights was able to take him in so quickly once it became clear that we needed to find a facility as soon as possible. After comparing several options, we chose Harbor Heights because of the amount of staff that spoke Korean and would be able to communicate with our dad, and because the facility seemed to be better run and cleaner than several of the others we considered. Though his stay was ultimately very brief before he passed away, we are so thankful to the staff here for caring for him and helping our family through this extremely difficult and emotional time. The staff in the memory care unit are all very friendly. Some of the standouts in friendliness and in taking an interest in my mom are Nick, Susie, Ariehanna, Marco (nurse) and Brittney (nurse). There was some frustration awhile back with my mom not getting her med orders from her doctor's office as Oakmont nurse fax was not working. This was eventually resolved when Ben intervened. Jhoana, director of nursing has also been very responsive. In dining in the Assisted Living dining room, the service could be improved in terms of servers checking back with the table to see how we are faring, and also asking if we would like drink refills. Isabella, a newer employee has been amazing though and goes above and beyond in these areas. She is definitely a stand out. Amy, the Memory Care Activities coordinator, has been great at trying to get my mom to come to activities. At times I have had a hard time connecting with activities department as I only have an email and it takes time to get a response back. I have wished there was another way to connect with them quickly other than email. Maria, the Director has been responsive and helpful when we have had concerns or provided feedback here and there. Edgar, Oakmont transporter, is very kind to my mom and responsive. Last but not least, the front desk ladies, Lexi and Maddy have been great! I love that they always greet me by name and are helpful with a multitude of things. I will mention one of the challenges of memory care is that there are different levels of impairment in the clients. My mom is higher functioning and I do wish there were more activities that she could join the assisted living residents in. This would require staff support and planning for her to go to some of those activities but I do think she would appreciate being with some higher functioning residents. She complains a lot about feeling lonely, as many of the other residents in memory care are not able to interact with her.

This last stay was her 2nd time. Both were for orthopedic issues/fracture and they were amazing at making her as comfortable as possible. Park Vista goes above and beyond regular care. You can tell the people there do their job with care and concern. Things run smooth and they always seem to be at least one step ahead as to what we needed. German, a caregiver was fantastic. The physical therapy dept. was so flexible and made sure things went smoothly. Bianca in Social Services was always on top with help and resources with amazing communication. That can't be said about many places these days. There are many others, I can't remember their names. But everyone is gentle and caring and I wouldn't want my mom anywhere else.
