Being from New York, I have a bias for deli sandwiches on that they should be these towering behemoths of deliciousness. Complete opposite at the Harvest Moon Deli but a pleasant one nonetheless. I love the names of their paninis, and I had to order the "Steak Me Home Tonight". From first to last bite it was great. Tender steak and crisp veggies with creamy cheese sauce, perfectly flattened in the press. Despite the obvious long list of to go orders coming in I was able to get my order fairly quickly and ate in at the bar top. Small place and could get overcrowded on a busy day but wasn't bad today. Amazing food and great service, will absolutely be back and try more great sounding menu items like the Roast Beef of Burden or Feel Like Bacon Love. read more

This was one of my favorite places we went to up in the area. The wrap was really tasty, filling and fresh. I got both bleu cheese and bacon the potato salad: two things that I love. I have eaten at the Stillwater Ave, Griffin Road, and Columbia St Harvest Moons and have never been disappointed. On Saturday, October 28, I stopped by the Brewer Harvest Moon to grab some potato salad. Service was fast. When I got home I opened the container and it was packed full of cubed potatoes. NO mayo, no eggs, no seasoning....just potatoes. Seriously?! Who was the genius that thought that was potato salad? The other Harvest Moons put stuff in their potato salad. Just ate here with two of my friends at 7 o'clock and let me tell you... the service of the girl working was very poor. Not only that she had a hickey on her neck. We walk in and are greeted with "just so you know the wait is 30-45 minutes long" (turning around business). she didn't greet us at all and it didn't make the business look good at all. Very bitchy facial expression when we decide to order. We get our food in 15 minutes not even, not in the order that we paid. There was a girl that ordered an online order and the girl was more focused on cleaning than making the to go order. She then turned off the OPEN sign 30 minutes before closing. The guy she was working with looked miserable to be around her presence. Please do something about this! Not a good representation of your franchise. read more

Outward appearance of wholesome is deceiving here. Bought a sandwich there and half the advertised ingredients were missing. The sandwich contained a smidgen of something. Needed a microscope to find anything WHOLESOME or otherwise. They are just out for the buck. read more

While most of the time I have a good experience here, today I bought a bacon sandwich and they charged me $15 just for the sandwich and a small bag of chips. Not to mention the bread was very burnt. I love this little deli shop. My daughter introduced me to this place.They make artisan sandwiches that have never disappointed. I like to try something new every time I go. As much as I'm impressed by the food, the staff are equally impressive. Just their attitude is a breath of fresh air. They are very courteous, respectful and you can just tell they are good people. Let it be known that I HATE sandwiches. Very un-American of me, I know. BUT this place makes the fresh and they have veggie options and that is what drove me in to visit this place for the first time last Thursday. Went at 12:30 and it was pretty busy. There were no open tables so we hung around for a few minutes looking at the menu until one opened. Unique selection and they let you sub things out if you want however I think they really should offer more veggie options. They did have a temph special but I was too weary to try that. You order and pay at the window, give them your name, and they will call it our or bring it to you. I ended up with the Lennon (pretty sure that was it) and subbed out the Jack for Mozz cheese and had it on the foccica (spelling I know) bread. I didnt see that chibatta bread (spelling I know) until after I ordered and I would have like to try that. The bread was a tad dry (hence docking one star plus waiting for a seat) but the inside of it was delicious. It had a lot of flavor and it wasnt piled on and too hard to eat like some places. This was manageable and the right portion size. They have soup but only one kind a day. Sell bread by the loaf as well. Decor is very plain and since seating is limited you feel very rushed to eat and get out if there are people waiting to place their order in line. I will go back and try it again but they really should get more creative with their veggie options. read more

I had a "Peter Paul and Mary" -- the sandwiches have cloyingly annoying names -- and it had a few slices of salami and cheese, with some red peppers. And it cost $11. WTF? Sodas are from the fountain. Space is like a cheap diner, with plastic all around, and absolutely no atmosphere to speak of. Patrons look depressed. Absurdly expensive. Blah. read more

My first time at Harvest Moon was right before they closed on a Thursday night. I was the only customer in the deli and the employees were hilarious! They were joking around with each other, let me pick out a radio station to jam to (Queen, of course), and gave me a free cookie for my music choice. It's an extremely welcoming environment and a cozy little deli with great food. I've only ever had the Olive and Let Die panini (the cherry pepper mayo and homemade pesto are the best part of this sandwich) because I'm hooked, but my friends love all their other paninis as well (especially the More Than Birds). The Orono area is not packed with Deli options, so the Harvest Moon is one of the only places to go to get a sandwich apart from Subway. The Harvest Moon is not a sub sandwich city deli, they have 'classic' sandwiches on sliced bread with pesto mayo and grainy mustard. The specialty sandwiches are good, I usually get an Ella Fitzgerald or Dizzy Gillespie. The bread is always fresh and you can buy a loaf to take home. A deli worthy of a once-a-week visit for lunch. The pretzel bread, alone, is worth the trip, and makes me daydream. The sandwich selection is outstanding...favorites include the "Bobby Zimmerman," "Jefferson Airplane," and "Robert Palmer." Even if your sandwich isn't on the menu, if it has ever been created for a weekly special, they will attempt to recreate it for you. I will regularly take a photo of the board if there is a sandwich that really grabs me and then show it to the cashier who puts in my order with a smile. The rewards program is an added bonus too -- just remember to give your card while paying and you are on your way to free sandwiches. I had high hopes, but wasn't impressed at all. I ordered a corned beef sandwich on rye. The bread had a rye flavor, but looked nothing like rye bread. Altogether an very uninspired sandwich and the pickle was mediocre; soft, rather than crisp. Worst of all was the wait. A full 15 minutes for them to make one sandwich, even though there was nobody ahead of me. Admittedly, they were making sandwiches for people in the restaurant, but it seems that carry-out should not have to wait until everyone in the restaurant has received their food. i go here for a tomato-basil-mozzarella fix (their jerry garcia), and am disappointed pretty much every time. most recently, the tomatoes were sickly and the cheese was one thin slice of something that i kind of doubt was mozzarella. they might have improved on this, but they also take an inexplicably long time to make their sandwiches. a few friends and i used to call in 2-4 sandwiches at non-peak times, wait a bit, drive over, pay, and then wait some more before getting our sandwiches. at least they have a website with their menu. read more

I really wanted to get excited about this place, but just can't. The sandwiches are good, but overpriced in my opinion. My last visit there, I ordered 2 sandwiches and 2 sodas. It was over $20 which I think is high for a order at the register take out sandwich joint for lunch. The place was empty, because it had just opened. The employees were hanging out talking in the kitchen. It didn't seem like anyone was in any hurry to start making my order. We stopped in for lunch. They had just what we were looking for soup, salad, and coffee. There is quite an extensive sandwich menu, but just not in mood for sandwiches. The dining room is small but there are a few booths. Ordering is at kitchen window and the man there was pleasant. Pros: we both agreed that the chicken tortilla soup had good flavor. Not homemade and not a lot of chicken but good. Husband ordered the chef salad and I ordered the garden with added chicken salad, both with house dressing which is a homemade balsamic vinaigrette. The salads had an abundance of fresh lettuce spring mix! And the coffee was good; very important Cons: Everything served in to go containers...but my bad, I didn't think to ask if regular plates, bowls, and mugs were an option. Like an idiot, I put the house dressing on my salad (and mixed it up real good ) before I tasted it. My husband then warned me that it was not the type of balsamic we are used to. Ack! The balsamic vinegar was so sour it made my tongue shrivel up; the dressing rendered that delicious looking salad inedible. I got a side of ranch to try to cut it but didn't do good enough job. Live & learn (again). Bottom line: definitely would go back and try again. read more

One of my good friends, Sam, introduced me to this place on our lunch date today and I'm so glad he did!! I'll definitely be returning soon. There were 5 of us on a family trip heading from Baxter State Park to Acadia and we found this deli on Yelp. All 5 of us loved the sandwiches we got - not an easy task when we ranged in age from 59 to 18 and one was a vegetarian.
