Very good service, eclectic decor and excellent Mac and cheese. Would like more Japanese jazz but the fireplace was a nice touch.

The rooms are clean and spacious, and they a lot of room! I loved the full length mirror in the closets and the great lighting in the bathroom area. The hotel was a little self-checkout area in the lobby with snacks, drinks, alcohol and travel essentials like toothpaste, floss, medicine and etc. if you forget anything. That is a nice convenience, though obviously they are a bit more expensive to purchase here rather than a store. Gym was small but has the essentials: treadmill, elliptical and bike for cardio and a full set of dumbbell weights and floor mats. Plus towels are in the corner. There is also a pool but we didn't get around to checking it out. Overall we enjoyed our stay. This hotel was better than most we've stayed at, and it had some great amenities. Checking in and checking out was seamless and easy, so no complaints. We would definitely stay here again if we visit the area.

We were welcomed to a clean guest house and even included disinfectant wipes. The fridge was stocked with water and the kitchen included all the tools you need to cook with such as pots, pans, salt, and oil. The home was quiet for the majority of our stay and the host respected our privacy. She even included some delicious bar of dark chocolate. Overall, our stay was amazing. The host herself was great. Very accommodating and went above and beyond after I mistakenly left my khakis there. She immediately had them shipped to my home. She was so nice and communicated with me the entire time. Probably the best host I've had the pleasure of dealing with. This is guesthouse is saved as one of my favorites. I for sure will return when I need another weekend away with my significant other. I can't say it enough, this home is great and I highly recommend it to anyone considering to stay in Pasadena.

I had total privacy during my trip - hosts/owners live next door but other than hearing some jazzy piano playing on one of my walks through the neighborhood I never ran into them which is exactly how I like it. They checked in on me every couple of days via text, and when I needed a couple of additional kitchen towels for an incident involving some out of control spaghetti sauce, there was a small bag filled with towels outside the door within five minutes. I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience here at Rubel Castle. Our host, guide,…read moreand local "Rubelligent" volunteer, Ms. Kathleen had all the intel about this historical property. She was so knowledgeable and helped set the stage for us to slip into a forgotten era and get a glimpse of how imagination met inventiveness with a DIY charm. ~ A LITTLE BACKSTORY FOR YOU ~ It's not pronounced Rubel as Barney from Flintstones. Rather, it's like Target is to Targét when we are trying to be fancy. So that's Rubel as in "Roo-bell." Unlike modern-day construction, Rubel Castle wasn't built overnight. It was made of collected recyclables and construction rubble that spanned many decades and took several friends and volunteers to build it. For Michael, however, the lifetime inspiration was first sparked at the age of 9. His love for canons was where it started and the rest is history you can hear about on the tour. But don't just show up like we did randomly one day. To book, visit RubelTours.org and make a reservation. ~ OUR TOUR EXPERIENCE ~ It's as if Michael Rubel, the creator and mastermind of this enchanted dominion had intended it to be--magical. Built in the castle period of wood and tin, every corner captured our interests, from antique cars to the 1890's Seth Thomas Tower Clock with a unique backstory (and only six in existence today). There were old vending machines, tools, trinkets, and machinery that time had long forgotten. Did I mention there was a drawbridge? Yes, and a dungeon too. I was just waiting for a dragon to come swoop down on us next. Walk in the footsteps of famous visitors like Alfred Hitchcock, Dwight Eisenhower, Jack Benny, and Bob Hope. It's a feast for the eyes no matter where you glance. I particularly enjoyed the bottle house that Michael built in 1968 as his "home" as a kid. That independent spirit was quite charming to see. ~ WATERCOLOR NATURESCAPE ~ We were fortunate to have our gracious host lead us on a tour and organize a special art crafting experience outdoors. It was absolutely lovely beneath the trees and between rusted vintage cars from the turn of the century. We each got a small canvas to paint our flowers in watercolor. (This particular experience takes place in the Spring and Fall, weather permitting.) We heard the squirrels rattling in the leaves and birds chirped and sang in the trees above. We discovered that peacocks apparently originated from this property, compliments of Michael Rubel. And did I mention that on the far side of the property, a custom garden was in full bloom? A castle in Glendora? Yes, your eyes aren't deceiving you--Rubel Castle is real, it's magnificent,…read moreand it's gloriously eccentric. Thanks to the sheer persistence (and probably delightful stubbornness) of Michael Rubel, we now have this quirky, towering State Treasure sitting right in the middle of Glendora like a fairy tale that accidentally took a detour through a hardware store. This place is beautifully done, and part of its charm is that it's a full-on hodgepodge of relics, antiques, crystal trinkets, and "wait... what is that doing here?" moments tucked into every nook and cranny. You'll marvel, you'll laugh, you'll squint in confusion--honestly, it's everything you'd want in a castle built with love, imagination, and a dash of madness. And let's talk about the makeshift cemetery. Quirky? YES. Fun? Absolutely. Slightly spooky? Only if your imagination is over-caffeinated. But it fits the vibe perfectly--like the castle whispered, "You know what I'm missing? A tiny cemetery." The tours are fantastic, the guides are passionate, and the whole experience feels like you're stepping into a living scrapbook of California history and charming chaos. Overall: Amazing, amazing place. Book your tour. They only do tours every first Sunday of the month, so set your alarms, mark your calendars, tie a string around your finger--just don't miss it. Rubel Castle is truly a California State Treasure, and an absolute must-see for anyone who appreciates creativity, history, and a little eccentric sparkle.

The absolute worst hotel experience I have ever had!…read more From the moment we arrived at the Comfort Inn, things went downhill quickly. The sprinklers at the entry were running full force, soaking the entire walkway, leaving no way to enter without getting drenched. When we finally made it inside, the front desk attendant, Sam, greeted us with barely a hello--unfriendly, unprofessional, and completely unwelcoming. During check-in, although we had reserved a double queen room, we were questioned about the size of our party as though we were being interrogated. Once given our keys, Sam instructed us to park on the side of the building--right next to a boarded-up vacant property that did not feel safe at all. We chose to park near the back with other guests, only to discover our room key didn't work at that entrance. We were forced to walk all the way back to the front, where we were told that door is locked after a certain time. When we finally made it up to our floor, the hallways were littered with garbage. Upon entering our room, I thought we were being pranked--it was absolutely filthy. The carpet was stained and so sticky that our shoes were literally sticking to the floor. The air conditioner vent was cracked, the unit was deafeningly loud while barely producing airflow, and the entire space felt neglected and dirty. The bathroom was no better: only two towels for four people, a broken shower bar, stained walls, and dirty sheets. It was completely uninhabitable. My husband immediately called the front desk and asked Sam to come up and see the room. When he arrived, he was visibly annoyed and dismissive, telling us this was the last room available and that if we had checked in earlier, we could have gotten something better. That excuse made no sense--this was a room that should never have been offered to any guest in the first place. We told him we would be checking out and requested a refund. Not only did we leave after only 15 minutes, but to add insult to injury, we later found an additional $30.20 charge on our credit card, as though we were being billed for time spent discovering the room was uninhabitable. When I requested management's contact information, I was given the name "Mohid." However, when I called later to speak with him, Sam answered and claimed he himself was the manager. When I reminded him that he had specifically told us earlier he was not the manager, he quickly backtracked and suddenly said his name was Mohid. This was shady, dishonest, and clearly an attempt to avoid accountability. This hotel is completely mismanaged, unclean, and unsafe. Guests deserve far better. I would strongly warn anyone considering this Comfort Inn to look elsewhere.

TRIGGER WARNING: BED BUGS…read more Me and a friend booked this hotel for one night. The check in was seamless, and it was decently priced. We were settling into the night and from the corner of my eye I saw something crawling on the pillow. I instantly got up, told my friend to grab her phone and snap a photo, once she got the photo, I killed the bug. It was a bed bug!! We went downstairs to reception with the dead bug in a tissue paper, and the receptionist was helpful, she exchanged rooms for us and gave us the contact information to the manager. We went to the new room, and went to sleep. Check out was smooth. HERE IS WHERE THE PROBLEM IS: We called the manager the next morning for compensation (let's be real, if it's in one room it's most likely in all). Her name is Kim. She wasn't apologetic AT ALL, in fact she stated "you can't prove the bug came from our hotel". As if I would bring a dead bed bug in my bags to play musical rooms in the middle of the night. It's a hotel, there is always a risk of bed bugs in the room but typically you would expect the hotel to have some accountability!!! Do not recommend, she could have handled it better and just simply apologized for the inconvenience at the very least.
