He (Dave) promptly answered my request for an estimate for the job. He came to the house, gave me…read morehis estimate, and we called him later on to tell him we accepted it. He then came to the house with the contract we mutually signed and he gave me his start date. I asked him how many workers he had and he stated, "I'm going to get my two nephews." My wife pulled all of her flowers on the one side of the house so Dave could have best access to the foundation he was repairing. We were all set for him on the morning he agreed to start job. He never showed that day. I texted him and got a response that he "had emergency surgery and is going to be laid up for awhile". No one ever contacted me until I reached out to them. Frankly, I don't believe it. The timing is too coincidental. If you read his reviews, he stood up another customer after leading them to believe he was going to do a job for them. I think he couldn't get anyone to help him so he bailed on the job. I texted them back to void the contract completely. Beware him and these other small time tradesmen. They run their business by the seat of their pants.

I needed a handyman to repair sections of 2 exterior door frames that had received damage during an…read moreunauthorized entry attempt at my apartment and I wanted to pass the move-out inspection and have my security deposit returned to me without any deductions. I have to say, my apartment isn't in the best shape; the foundation is uneven, the walls within are crumbling and everything is being held together by duct tape... Brownell was quick to contact me. When he called, he was very informative and professional. He had availability the next day, so I received a fair quote and decided to move forward. I booked him for the following week and felt a sigh of relief. The day before the appointment, he called to confirm and even texted the morning of at 7am to say he was en-route. At 8am, he was at my apartment with everything he needed. I quickly showed him my problem and figured he would just spackle the cracks in the door frame and call it quits. Instead, he removed the damaged boards from the back door and replaced them with new boards. He even purchased white boards to match my door, so I didn't have to paint the trim to match the door. This door had been kicked in so the lock mechanism was missing and only being secured with a latch lock. I didn't feel safe the whole time it was broke. He fixed the inside of the door jamb and I could lock it once again. A few minutes later, I had to run to the laundromat, so when I left he was removing the trim off the front door. He called when he was done and when I returned, the front door was fixed perfectly! Because, part of the door frames looked so new and I didn't want my landlord to know there had been damage, so I used a tea bag to stain it so it looked dirty and tattered like the rest of the door frame. (it worked!) I really appreciate being able to support a local minority business, especially during this time. But more importantly, I wanted a honest, qualified and reputable business and I got just that! I had previously dealt with a different handyman who scammed me and a well known construction company who didn't provide the best service because my request was too small so I received sub-standard results... So, going into this I was skeptical and praying for a legitimate handyman. He was exactly that! I've passed his business contact onto everyone in my local area.

He even eliminated a plumbing stack that was left behind from a previous renovation. He took pictures as the work progressed and contacted throughout the progress. If an item arose during progress I was notified as it happened again with pictures to prove it. He made it felt like I was there working with them. (Pictures sent to me from the owner). After 40 years, our furnace, more or less, melted because a part went bad and drained the system of…read morewater. We called a knowledgeable neighbor and he recommended National. We will be forever grateful to him for pointing them to us. Long story short, in 9 degree weather, outside and in, they worked all day New Year's Eve and part of the day after New Year's and got the job done. They would have finished on New Year's Eve, but they found the reason for the drained water and replaced a large section of pipe. The brand-new furnace is a thing of beauty. They even hooked up a fire and carbon monoxide sensor near the furnace as a safety precaution. Another extra they did was move a lot of junk out of the way to get the furnace in place and the old one out. You know how basements can get. My wife and I are both disabled, and we never would have been able to do it ourselves. As for cost, our home-owner's insurance paid for everything, and they didn't think the cost was excessive. I honestly don't know furnace and service prices, so I'd have to go along with what the insurance company said. Needless to say, I highly recommend these guys.
