Harry's Bar is very cute place with spectacular view on the main square of Cernobbio and Lago di Como. You need to wait little longer for the staff to come, but come on, you are in Italy, and on Holiday ;) When ordering Apperitivo, you will be pleased by number of snacks you get with it, and olives they serve are pretty goood :) read more

You come here for the history, as in who came here way before you did as in Mark Twain & for the stunning views of Lake Como. Service has interesting - our waitress seemed a tad off, I put in a drink order, a Moscow mule, & she did not know what I was asking for, so I asked for directions to the bar to speak with the bar keep. Thank goodness the bar keeper knew exactly what I was asking for & brought out the drink herself. There were olives & bread to snack on. Our lunch was 2 pasta dishes, basic, nothing to write home about. Come here to enjoy the view of Lake Como; the bar keeper was stellar, I'd go back just for cocktails & the view. read more

I am not sure why Harry's reviews aren't much higher. We took an another couple here and we all agreed that it is a must try place in Lake Como. Our favorite dish was the White Truffle Pasta!! I have to agree with most of the others, this place is a bit over rated, especially considering the praise it seems to get from everyone. We drove over an hour to get here, through the winding roads along the side of Lake Como. We pulled up to a little lake front restaurant. It was quite full and really, really hot to be having lunch outside, even though there were ample umbrellas providing lots of shade. There is a lovely view of the lake, but honestly many restaurants have an even better view, as this place is set back a few hundred yards. I ordered a special, tuna tartar, that was served with a side of capers, their special salt oil and onions. It was simple and light, which was a welcome change from the heavy Italian dishes I'd been having. My mom ordered the lasagna and it was really good. A little difficult to eat such a rich dish in 90+ degree heat but nonetheless it was creamy, meaty and pretty close to perfect. My fiance ordered the veal milanese, and a cheese ravioli in a butter sage sauce. Both were terrible. I finished with a mediocre tiramisu and we were on our way. I wouldn't come back to this place as there are much better places to dine in Lake Como! read more

Far more upscale than a standard Italian bar, both the service and the price at Harry's qualify as fine dining. Located due West of the Cernobbio ferry dock, Harry's offers a splendid view looking out over Lake Como. That view was marred by construction during our visit, but we'll still take it! For lunch, my fiancee and I split orders of smoked goose breast (18€), porcini mushrooms and Parmesan (15€), and mixed salad (8€). The goose breast was luxurious. The mushrooms were just that, sliced raw mushrooms with cheese shaved over it. To both of these the waiter added a lemon olive oil sauce that really picked the dishes up. I wish he had also added it to the salad, which was very bitter. My fiancee ordered a Venetian beef liver with crispy roasted potato rounds (22€). This dish was superb and she enjoyed it immensely. What she probably didn't enjoy was me continually asking, "Are you gonna eat your tots?" in a deadpan voice. I went all out and ordered the Tournedos Rossini, tournedos of beef topped with foie gras and Madeira demi glace with some truffle for good measure (32€). I mean, close your eyes and imagine it sitting in front of you. Isn't your mouth just freaking watering thinking about it? What I was actually served were slices of cold veal topped with a mayonnaise sauce perfumed with canned tuna. Really! Look it up! It's called Vitello Tonatto! What bastard son of a thousand maniacs invented this fresh hell? Now I knew this wasn't what I ordered, but at that point I didn't feel like going toe-to-toe with the kitchen. And to be honest, it actually wasn't completely as bad as it sounds. I consider myself richer for the experience. In more ways that one, because that dish only cost 20€. A bottle of Barbera d'Asti cost 35€. Harry's doesn't seem to serve a house wine at a popular price. Throw in a bottle of San Pelligrino, and the small service charge and lunch came to 128€. All in all a mixed bag. Nice location and superb service, except for the vealtuna debacle. I would probably return again, but be more restrained with the expensive and mostly disappointing antipasti, instead ordering a more traditional primi and secundi. read more

For some reason this restaurant came highly lauded by all of our hotel staff at Grand Hotel di Como. Inspite of its American name, they said the food was exceptional Italian cuisine. And while we found the service and ambiance above par, the food -for the price - was lack luster. Oh, and this is the only restaurant I've ever been to in all the world in which they charge a cover to eat there (no live music, nothing special, just the privledge of dining with them: 3 euro/person). I started with the pasta of the day, pesto linguine - mild if not a bit boring with unexpected bits of potato and green bean. For my main, I opted for the center cut beef atop with foie gras and switched vegies for potatoes. I only liked one of the four breads found in my basket and put every morsel of the pate on it. Medium was more of a true medium-rare, lots of pink! My dining companion had the lamb, which happened to be the meat of the day. He devoured it, while only one in four shanks did he find 'gamey.' The true spotlight of our dining experience was the waiter recommended Sicilian varietal - Nero D'Avola (also called 'Calabrese'). Apparently it precludes premature fermentation by being harvested and put into cool vats, typically at night. The result is bold deliciousness without being too overpowering. Should have gone with our travel instinct and ran from the seeming American option. read more

As well traveled American I understand the differences in restaurant service around the world, but our server was a unpleasant--I even showed him a picture of our previous visit, and he was not amused. I came here for a drink with my parents recently and had a bittersweet experience. The view of the lake is beautiful and the restaurant/bar itself aesthetically pleasing. Sipping on wine while taking in the beauty of the surrounding mountains was something I'll remember. However my good spirits were quickly soured after we asked for the check. Instead of putting the check down and leaving for us to sort it out on our own, the waiter stood there next to us and reminded my dad to give him a tip. I was annoyed, especially because a tip would have been left for him without him having to ask, but I shrugged it off and held my tongue. Just another teenager bein' a teenager. After waiting while watching my dad sift through his pockets, he then said "2 or 3 euros is good" --- *SKIIIIIIIRRRT!!* Excuse me??? After after I pointed out his blatant lack of professionalism, he blushed. That's right, you go on blushing. Anyway there are hundreds of other places to eat or drink that have drool-worthy views of Lake Como. Don't come to this one until their staff has taken a couple lessons on standard manners. read more

If you want to get treated like crap, this is the place to go! God forbid you are a tourist looking for a good meal. The arrogant waitstaff has no time for you. Not local, forget it! Didn't even get to the food. Couldn't get past the attitude to even place an order. My wife and I managed to get a drink order in but thats as far as we got. We ate at Harry's because the Mirolago was closed for lunch ( which is why we went to cernnobio in the first place). I heard good things about it, so I convinced my husband to take me to Harry's for lunch. We had penne with tomato sauce and split a salad. Both were very good. We ordered coffee after lunch and I did not quite understand what the waiter was asking me about the milk and he looked over at the other waiter and rolled his eyes like I was an idiot.
