It was last Sunday, the folks called, 'Annie we are on our way we decided to surprise you for Sunday dinner.' Which translates as, 'Annie we are on our way to snoop around your apartment and to see if you care enough to cook us Sunday dinner.' I woke with my pillow stuck to my hungover face when the text woke me. Stuffing the party paraphernalia of the night before in the washing machine in haze whilst sleeping bodies twitched at my feet. Once the clean up was done, the dinner panic ensued, this butchers signage welcomed me in. Once the butchers stopped laughing at me, they picked out the best cut of meat to cut in a hurry, they even told me the best temperature to put it at. Best of all they are cheap, I'm all about the cheap. The result was the folks loved it and believe that I am a well adjusted adult.

He is always ready and willing to give advice and recomendations on their meats.

Full marks to the Market Butchers, they've won me over with steak!…read more The shop's location in far-flung Rathcoole's Greenogue Industrial Complex IS a bit of a hike, but for high quality cuts of beef, organic chickens, fresh pork and lamb it's hardly a sacrifice. Here you'll get flavorful melt-in-the-mouth 8oz fillet steaks, previously seen on a high-end restaurant plate, for just €7.45. Then there's the round mince (€6.45 per kg) and pork mince (2 kg for €9.95) that's the backbone of some seriously super chili. You'll get great craic along with it, the pros behind the counter here are warm, funny and friendly. On our last visit we ended up in a long conversation about the recent honeymoon of a newly married Market Butcher. If you can't make it to Rathcoole delivery service is available, but at €10 is geared towards large orders. In fact, order over €100 in their delicious delicious meats and home delivery (in Dublin) is free. Outside the country it only applies to orders over €150. Dr. Atkins, your time has come.

The meats on display were great but didn't have the usual ribs, wings, chicken breasts, etc however a friendly hello from the butchers, I asked whether he had anything... Oh an disposable BBQ, perfect I'll take 2 :-) Really great find as I was driving past, wasn't on Yelp but hoping my business add efforts will help other tourists and non locals find this great local butcher. I got Rib-eye steak which was quite expensive, but it's not something I will buy all the time and its quality was worth the price. So all meat is from Irish farms and I believe the quality of Irish meat is always excellent. The fillet steak is 32 day dry aged. Most steak in the USA is wet aged which is cheaper and produces an inferior product. For frozen it's their Greenland cold water prawns. They are again wonderful quality and taste. The last day I was there they were selling snow peas at 49 cents a bag and 500gm of red grapes at €1.29. Wonderful value for great produce and they often have real deals on fresh veg. So I bought a half dozen of each. The new normal is that you may have to stand outside a while as numbers are now limited. This is ok in an Irish summer (which this year is lousy). They provide hand sanitizer on entry. The only other downside is that they don't have many check out staff so again you can queue there a while too but it's the rub of the green here as the prices are so competitive.

It's always busy. They do serve take-out lunches daily and the queues for Sunday lunch around £8 is always long. It brings a lot of employment locally. The car parking is free, the prices at the fuel station are competitive and their off licence has a great range of booze. I go chiefly for their black pepper sauce as it's a great base for me to add my own double cream and cognac when I cook fillet steak. One thing customers need to be mindful of is the heavily discounted products, while many are cheap their sell - by dates are often up and you could be buying something that tastes awful especially diet drinks and crisps that go rancid very fast. They make their own fresh 2 ounce steak burgers about £1 each in the butchery section. They are very good, but for me I still prefer my M&S 5% Aberdeen Angus minced beef for my own beef burgers. He still hasn't installed EV chargers so one has to go across the road to the Damolly Retail Park for that. Oh, speaking of EV charging, it made me laugh to see the Orange buffoon overturn the dignity of the White House to change it into a car showroom for the Muskrat's Swasticar - next they'll both be in a movie The Fast and the Führer.
