The meats on display were great but didn't have the usual ribs, wings, chicken breasts, etc however a friendly hello from the butchers, I asked whether he had anything... Before I knew it the guy was chopping up chickens for us, had wings marinated and bagged up, burgers stacked, fresh sausages; was so glad I asked. Proper shop local experience here! The shop also stocks fruit and vegetables as well as household items plus basics like milk and bread... Oh an disposable BBQ, perfect I'll take 2 :-) Really great find as I was driving past, wasn't on Yelp but hoping my business add efforts will help other tourists and non locals find this great local butcher. There's a lot of folk who have to past through Athlone to get to their holiday home / river cruise so, folks if you need supplies, hook up with this place.

I am not a fan of butcher shops but this is quite an eye opener. It had a large selection of game including Pheasants and Rabbit locally sourced but it was the black bacon that I came to check out and I came away with some boiling black bacon (an irish dish) and some nitrite free bacon also. This shop is a treasure trove for carnivores and would please the vegetarians if they could bear to venture in as it has a fine array of deli produce and all made with the finest ingredients. When I went in the first time and asked for slimming world products the guy was like 'you're not on a diet?' I didn't hear anything else he said as I was trying to get over the counter to snog him!
