HOWEVER -- their billing needs to be more transparent and accurate. Ask for written documentation for everything, especially if you're out of network. I'm not sure what the front desk receptionist's name is now, might be Nina, but she would make comments about people receiving checks from their insurance and never returning. I brushed it off because I was in pain, I'm still grieving a family loss, and my birthday was coming up. Though I kept it in the back of my mind as a subtle jab at assuming I wouldn't pay. I received a call to confirm my appointment from the receptionist who informed me I needed to make a payment when I came in. Didn't specify how much, didn't make it seem like they'd be asking for the full amount in one day. I said no problem, as Dr. sterling informed me in the chair as he was working on me that I could do payments rather than pay it all up front. I said that was perfect. I get to my appointment and I'm asked to pay the full payment up front right then and there. Again, receptionist gave me the same story about people just never coming back to pay. Don't know why, since I was standing there with my card in hand ready to pay. I just wasn't expecting to pay the full thing at once when I was told I could do payments. The economy is in a tight spot for everyone right now and dental work is expensive. I wish I had 1500 lying around to pay all in one shot, but I do not. Again, this isn't an issue of me not wanting to pay. It's the utter lack of transparency and communication. Speaking of 1500, that's how much the front desk told me I owed. So I payed 800 the time of my visit and said I would pay the rest when I'm able. I received a bill today and my total is suddenly over 1600. What? What happened to 1500? And if it's an extra charge because I didn't pay it at once, who was going to tell me this? Also, not having an option to pay online is ridiculous when I have to work during the day and sometimes don't have time to call and make a payment on the phone. This part is more a convenience thing for me, but if billing is going to be this much of a mess might as well have an option for patients to do it online. Always ask for receipts and ask for a break down of costs wherever you go, lest you run into a weird back and forth and passive aggressive comments that make you feel like you're about to "dine and dash" at the dentist. I'm going to make my payments, just make sure your office is accurate the first time. Again, good dentist. Great work. But this billing method needs to be reviewed and redone. Additionally: I was told claims would be sent to my insurance and that they would then mail me a reimbursement check. Come to find my claims were never sent to my insurance company.

I've been going to him for several years, had multiple cavities filled, and am very happy with all of the results. It's calming to be in his care, rather then feeling tense, I feel at ease and completely calm. To add, his office is unlike any other dental office ive been too, it's not intimidating and filled with beautiful art work. But above his kindness and great work, what I appreciate the most about Dr. Saland is his honesty when it comes to what you really need done and what you do not. So many times I've been told conflicting information from other offices, and even recommended what seemed like unnecessary work, but not with Dr. Saland. Also when your sitting in his chair, he tells you everything he is about to do and or doing, he walks you through every step to ease the tension of the unknown. I couldn't recommend him more. He patiently explains what needs to be done, why, and always recommends the most conservative route. For example, I recently chipped my molar when chewing. I went to another dentist for help. This dentist tried to place a filling for my chipped molar, but said it was not possible. He told me I needed to see an endodontist to perform a root canal and place a crown on my molar. I visited Dr. Vakaria's office for a second opinion. He examined me and said that since I was not experiencing any pain in the tooth, he would not recommend a root canal. He said I probably would need a crown. However, if we are lucky, he said, I might be able to get by with just a filling. So, the same day, he successfully gave me a filling in the chipped molar that a fellow dentist said was not possible. Now, Dr. Vakharia made no promises about how long the filling would hold. He said that if the filling falls out, the next step is to put in a crown. I am cautiously optimistic. In a prior visit, I had another cracked tooth. He examined it and said it probably needs a crown, but he would try a filling. If we are lucky, he said, it might hold. This prior filing has worked for two years and counting! In short, Dr. Vakharia has patient interests as his North Star. He underpromises and overdelivers.

Since I was a kid, I never understood why people were scared of the dentist. I've been Dr. Vakharia's patient for as long as I can remember. As a dentist, he is super knowledgeable, but able to break down dental concepts in a way that normal people can understand them. He is also very gentle during procedures, and does great job at taking x-rays, cleaning teeth and diagnosing dental issues like cavities, crooked wisdom teeth, etc. He is the type of dentist who believes that if it ain't broke, don't fix it - He will not add on unnecessary procedures and costs - he will also have a discussion with you to make sure you are informed before you agree to a procedure. He is also fluent in Spanish, Gujarati and Hindi. He removed my mom's wisdom teeth, did my dad's root canal, and even did my dad's bridge (fake teeth after two of my dad's teeth fell out). Both of my parents also felt like he did a great job. Dr. Vakharia is kind, understanding, has a sense of humor, and just an overall great dentist to interact with. That said, he will also be gently honest if an issue needs to be addressed. I find his services worth traveling 1+ hour for. I recommended him to a friend, who has also now been his patient for years (and travels 45+ minutes to get to). If you are looking for a great dentist, I highly recommend Dr. Vakharia.
