I love this store. The layout is open and easy to shop. The location is clean and bright. Olney has a gem on their hands. The employees are friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to help. Some of the items are a bit more expensive here than comparable stores but their store brands are a great price without sacrificing quality. The sales here are unbeatable (they double coupons up to $.99!) Highlights: The produce department is well maintained and the sushi is delicious! I arrived at the store early yesterday morning and proceeded straight to the dairy section to pick up the 12 oz. bottle of Promised Land Milk, that had been advertised as free in the Friday, 31 January 2020 e-VIC Alerts. As has frequently been the case recently, this free item was not in stock. When I inquired about the free item from a store associate (whom I believed to be in management), I was told that there was a substitute item that I could select instead of the advertised item. When I asked her if the substitute item would ring up as free, she assured me, very definitively that the item would ring as free and that all of the associates in the front of the store were aware of the substitution. I was leery of her confident assertion, as I had been directed to other substitutions of the free items on other occasions, only to have the price of those items charged to my bill, upon checkout. Nonetheless, I put the free item in my basket and proceeded to the checkout. When I arrived at the checkout, the young man who checked me out was unaware of the substitution and seemed confused that there even was a free item, as I tried to explain the situation to him. (I decided to not assume that the substituted item would ring as free, and instead explained the situation to him before he even started checking my order.) He summoned help from a store associate, who I assumed was a manager and someone with whom I had never had contact. He explained the situation to her and she very brusquely informed me that the free item would ring as free, upon completion of my order. I explained to her that the item I had been directed to by the other associate was a substitution for the free item that had been advertised in the e-Vic alert. At this point, she had obviously lost her patience with me and very curtly informed me that, of course, this transaction would have to be handled differently and that they would have to enter the free item manually. She proceeded to enter something in the computer that I presumed to be the manual process to which she so abruptly described to me. At that point, she placed the free item (a small bottle of milk) on a small shelf next to the cash register, and not on the belt with the rest of my groceries. She left and went back to the customer service desk and the cashier proceeded to ring up the rest of my groceries. As fate would have it, yesterday was double coupon day at Harris Teeter and I had several coupons to redeem. Again, as has often been my experience recently, one of the coupons did not double, when the cashier scanned it. When I pointed this out to him, he seemed confused as to why I would expect the $2 coupon to double, at which point I had to inform him that yesterday was a double coupon day. Again, he summoned the same managerial associate for assistance. After a great deal of study and analysis of the $2 coupon, she deducted an additional $2 from my bill. She also cautioned the cashier that he needed to check each coupon to make ensure that none of them had expired and that none of them prohibited doubling. As I presume that all of that information is automated and electronically confirmed, I can only deduce that the managerial associate continued to be perturbed by what she perceived to be a difficult customer (i.e., me). She continued to observe the cashier, as he scanned the rest of my coupons, and presented me with my final bill, which I paid with my credit card. As he was packing the rest of my groceries, I pointed to the small bottle of milk that the managerial associate had set aside on the small shelf near the cash register and asked if the transaction that applied to the free item had been completed, so that I could put it in one of my grocery bags. Truly, I was only expecting to receive a simple confirmation, but instead the managerial associate proceeded to tell me that, of course the transaction was completed, as she had done so "right in front of me" earlier. At this point, I was very upset and told the managerial associate that I did not know what the store's processes were and that I only wanted confirmation that everything had been completed. Somehow, she interpreted this to be a criticism of the young cashier, whom she told me only worked Saturdays and Sundays and could not be expected to know such things. (I was in no way criticizing the cashier, at any point in this miserable experience.) To avoid any additional ire from this manager, I grabbed my grocery bags and fled the store. This may not seem like a big deal to Harris Teeter, but it was for me, as I really do consider myself to be a reasonable person, who truly appreciates the efforts of the associates at all of the businesses that I frequent. As I stated at the beginning of this letter, this is most definitely NOT about the small bottle of milk that I received, but everything to do with how I was treated by another human being, an associate of your store. read more

While I generally enjoy going to Harris Teeter, today there just wasn't alot of selection of brands I eat/use. What really ruined my trip today was a manager by the name of Brett being condescending and just downright disrespectful to employees and my cashier. How does a man like this have a job? The seafood is bad. I was in a rush was The butcher tried to get me to wait 15 minutes to bring some in from the back. I froze the large shrimp and steamed the crab legs that day they smelled and tasted like ammonia. I misplaced my receipt and wasn't able to return it $25 down the drain. Fast forward to tonight I thawed and cooked the shrimp from my freezer. It tastes fine and then the ammonia taste came back. Another $15 down the drain. I am VERY upset. There are better places to get seafood. I have never had an issue with Giant or Safeway seafood next door. Smh read more

I normally shop at Giant, but recently decided to try Harris Teeter because I was looking for something in particular. Walking in to Harris Teeter everyone was so nice! Like almost too nice! But it's much nicer than my giant where everyone just ignores you and if you have a question push you off to someone else. One time i was talking to my husband saying I wished they had something very specific and out of no where this random employee said we have that let me show you! I was like woah! I didn't even have to find you, you were just there! That my friends is good customer service! This has happened to me now on multiple occasions! I find they have the random things other stores don't. They have a great gluten free section. They also have great meats always on sale! I have a few minor complaints and that's why they aren't getting 5 stars. 1) the food their expires fast! You will buy it and then realize it expires like next week, so you have to be aware of that! 2) the lines are just confusing. I get them now but at first it was frustrating because I waited in a line that wasn't even a line. But that's it! So overall great store!! read more

This is my favorite grocery store in the Olney area. I have never had a bad experience here. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to help you. I also appreciate the fact that they are open 24 hours. I use the pharmacy.and have never had to wait more than 20 minutes for a prescription. I would recommend trying their products, under the name H.T. Traders. They are high quality and a bit less expensive. read more

We like shopping at this store. They have a good variety of everything including a decent organic produce section. Prices are generally average but their sales are good. Parking is easy and the parking lot is not congested with traffic like it is at Giant. We love their Asian hot bar. The food is awesome. If you have kids the only drawback is their restroom. They only have one so if someone is occupying it you are sunk if you have to wait for someone to be done using it. They really need to have 2 bathroom stalls with such a large store. Overall it is a nice store and we get good deals by shopping the sales read more

Great grocery store in the "new" (ish now" shopping center. I was quite bitter when they tore down the old shopping center, mainly because I liked going to breakfast at that deli. But I have to say am immensely pleased with the new center and the HT. Great shopping experience. (Sadly for them I don't live close enough to do all my shopping here, but I do all of my "planned" shopping here or at Wegman's in Columbia. Zero star for this Harris Teeter.. I grabbed a 28pk Nestle pure water for 2.57 Original 4.99. The discounted price did not show on her register. Then she grabbed a weekly newspaper. She did not find this sale. And there were only 3 customers in the store around 8: 50pm on Tuesday night. She called the manager, the manager came over and grabbed another weekly newspaper. He did not find it either. At the same time, there were about 6 free workers up there yawning. And no one was sent to check the price. I asked the cashier why she did not get there and check it. SHE ANSWERED WITH A SHOCKING FACE " I HAVE CALLED THE MANAGER, IT IS NOT MY BUSINESS".... I was stunned... The manager took out his card and gave me the discounts as I said. He did not go there either... My conclusion: They are a bunch of lazy asses.. read more

The employees are unhelpful and always in a rush. An employee ran a cart into me while I was trying to pull out my money at the cash register. If you want me to pay you fast then give me ten second to get the money. It takes way longer then needed to make a sandwich, not because the employees are lazy but because they have a million other things they are trying to do at once. I think management is asking them to do way too much and is incentivizing quantity over quality. I'm going to be going to the safeway from now on. read more

Sushi bar consistently is NEVER stocked upon closing at 7PM. You'd think they would stock mounds of Cali roll since it's by far the most popular sushi selection. Also, if you come anytime within the half hour of them closing you will find no attendant at the bar to make fresh sushi. Last time I checked, closing at 7PM meant that you were open and serving customers until 7PM. Come here at 6:45PM like I did tonight and you will find the station cleaned, cleared and no sushi prepped for after closing. Extremely frustrating. read more

Not well stocked produce section. Seafood butchery lacks a good quality fish selection. Cashiers are incompetent. Waited in line and they let the ppl behind us go to another register to check out first, but then told us to go there then told us to go back because the machine or that customer's card wasn't working. So we had to wait behind a 2nd set of ppl when we were originally next in line we somehow basically got pushed back to being 3rd in line. read more

The store is always clean and the staff are very friendly. The produce section is well kept and I have never seen bad produce on display. The meat department is just awesome. The best steaks I have ever purchased from a mega chain grocery store. I would like them to dress up the sushi area a bit. I think that they should offer a sushi bar. That would be cool. read more

Harris Teeter seems to have everything the average family in Olney needs when it comes to prepared salads, meals, sushi and store brands. I don't approve of their prices, but HT seems to have come a long way from a depressing shopping center. read more

Great, no....fantastic customer service! Area stores just don't measure up. Prices are comparable if not a little higher, but they do have decent sales. Wish they stocked their shelves later at night or earlier in the morning but otherwise the store is neat, clean and well organized. HT... Bring back your free balloons... I have lived in Olney a ridiculously long time, and for the past several years I pretty much only went to Safeway, despite the fact that the self-checkout staff got ruder and ruder over time. (I mean, one guy who is always there frequently yelled at other staff members. So awkward. Don't need it in my life.) Then I visited Harris Teeter, and I switched my allegiance entirely here. They have a great selection of most things I need, the layout is large and well-organized enough to make shopping less stressful, and they're open pretty much all the time, which is great. But the nicest thing is that their staff is just so pleasant. I have not had one less than entirely helpful and pleasant encounter with an employee at this store in approximately two years, and I think that's remarkable. Maybe it shouldn't be, but it is. I'd give them four stars for the higher prices on some things that I can get elsewhere, but here's an extra star and an extra few of my dollars for being the opposite of jerks, Harris Teeter! read more

Love this place!! I don't usually buy groceries here because it's a little far from home, but the prepared food from here is awesome. Love the chicken fingers and the Asian food bar. Pizza and sushi are great as well. Also love how they have plenty of self check out places so I can get out quickly. read more

Watch out for a very rude worker named Melody - I was 5 steps from the restroom door when she walked fast ahead of me & grabbed the door. Called her out about it and she still went ahead. Beware - the salad dressings at the salad bar all have HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP! I can't believe that a store as sophisticated as Harris Teeter would do this. I've been happily getting healthy salads there daily for weeks, not knowing I was topping them off with unhealthy crap. Shame on you, Harris Teeter! Olney has an excess of certain things, banks, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Chinese carryouts, and grocery stores, but Harris Teeter is by far the best of the bunch. Their customer service blows Shoppers out of the water and their products are fresh. Their subs are packed with meat and they usually have good specials each week. read more

The is a clean, well-stocked store and the service is excellent. The pharmacy recently changed their system so there was a bit of a line. To my surprise, Brett, the store manager came to all of us apologizing and gave us bottles of cold water. A few minutes later, another associate brought us samples from Starbucks! I am very disappointed in this store. I had ordered a cake for a classsroom party. We stressed the time that it needed to be ready. I was told that that wouldn't be a problem. I went to pick it up and it isn't ready. I had to get something different than what I ordered and there isn't any writing on the cake. Never again! read more

LOVE this store!!! Prices are competitive - I aggressively compare prices (thanks to my nifty shopping app) and HT is always neck-in-neck with Giant. They carry produce the others don't on a regular basis (like leeks and celery root). Manager (Bret) believes in outstanding customer service and it shows in his staff too.
