This is the University Place Harris Teeter, located just off of 15-501 (Fordham Blvd) in Chapel Hill. This is a good Harris Teeter. My wife and I liked it because it had fresh produce and a lot of variety. Our regular Harris Teeter in Chapel Hill was the Meadowmont Village location. The Meadowmont Village Harris Teeter is in a nicer, quieter neighborhood. However, that Harris Teeter is smaller in size and the produce wasn't as fresh as what we saw here. I think this Harris Teeter is also better than the other Harris Teeter we regularly visited, at Hope Valley Commons in Durham. While similar in size, this Harris Teeter had fresher produce and a wider selection than what we were accustomed to at Hope Valley. We picked up several items at this location. The prices shown in the list below are after VIC discount. Side note: I never signed up for a VIC membership during our four-plus years in Chapel Hill. I continued to use my Kroger Plus membership. It gave me the same discounts. I'm an African American women , and it seems like everytime I come here they watch me at self check out , sometimes 2 ppl at a time. I don't know wha that prejudice is about but im definitely uncomfortable. read more

Pharmacy: I was given a prescription where the pills in the bottle did not match the description on the label. Store: I am impressed and even told the manager so. Their aisles are always stacked neatly and so together. The floor employees are friendly and helpful. The produce is fresh and they have a good butcher shop. read more

Very nice store -- I usually go just to the frozen food aisle and they have a lot more variety there than the other chains do. Lots of unique items that can't be found anywhere else. Like the other H-T in town it can be crazy busy depending on when you show up. read more

Beware, this Harris Teeter is not using social distancing anymore. You will find yourself in the checkout line super close to other customers. Especially, the self check out line. Maybe even closer than you've been to someone since March. There's no safety in this environment. If Harris teeter doesn't change his ways it could cause a whole epidemic itself. read more

I went here today to get an air filter, and they didn't have any I could find. I rarely come to Harris Teeter except for products like this, and now it turns out I can't even count on this store. Perhaps it's a smaller store, or the construction had something to do with it. Now air filters are another thing I buy on Amazon for a super low price and can easily see the reviews for products. I wish Harris Teeter sold more organic, local, fair trade, and vegan items. Trader Joe's shows you can do this without charging excessively high prices. Until they offer higher-quality products (in my opinion), I will not be back to Harris Teeter. read more

Super friendly staff, great barbecue sample out front and good prices with sales the day before Fourth of July where not many grocery stores do that prior to big holidays. It was so crazy at the other grocery stores that I left, came here and it was much more peaceful and a way better shopping experience. Nice cashier as well, she was sweet. read more

I've been coming to this location for many years and watched it go through many transitions of expansion and updating. Just when I think it's as up to date as can be they do another overhaul, so it just keeps getting better. When it's busy the parking lot can get a little tense, but it has never deterred me from shopping there. I'm always able to find what I need and the check out seems to move quickly no matter. This is one of the smaller Harris Teeter's, but it's really close to UNC campus and in the heart of Carrboro. They manage to carry all of the regular brands and keep them in stock. It's sometimes a fight to find a parking spot in the parking lot as it shares it with the Carr Mill Mall/Weaver Street Market area. But it's a good place to park, get lunch in Carrboro, pick up some organic stuff from Weaver Street, and then get your staples from Harris Teeter. Don't forget to take your VIC card, it can save you a lot off their higher prices. If you don't have one, you can get one at the register. You just have to be "that guy". read more

This is the closest grocery store to us so I headed there to stock our empty refrigerator and pantry since we just got into town. It is a beautiful store and was buzzing with activity but I never felt like I was crowded or in someone's way. They have a nice selection of products but were out of several items that I needed which are not esoteric in anyway so that was a surprise. They were also short on help so they had no baggers. I ended up having to bag my groceries which normally isn't a problem but I have some restrictions on lifting so it could be a problem for others with similar issues. The checker was nice and welcoming. I hate that I have to carry around another card but I guess I can get rid of the one I used from my old home. I will definitely go back but I think I will try the Food Lion and see how well stocked they are. It could be that Harris Teeter being a Carrboro hub could go through items quickly so it may be hit or miss. read more

11/18/2011 at 01:19AM This store was open after we picked my daughter up from her late studies at UNC Medical School. A 12 pack of Coca Cola was $6.39 vs $3.98 at Walmart. Bulls Eye BBQ only came in one size and that was $3.59. Oscar Meyer bacon thick cut was $6.99 vs. $3.58 at Walmart. They did have the thick cut variety whereas this Walmart only had the regular cut. This place is highway robbery, but like Seven-Eleven they are open at odd hours so I had to pay for the convenience. We happily drove a little further and shopped Walmart the next day and felt good saving money. This store kinda reminded me of Tom Thumb in the DFW area. It was easy to find things. We did self check out while an employee man laid over a podium. We asked him where the ice was when we walked in and he pointed to the freezer. When we checked out i shuffled over and got the ice. Had I been working and there was only (1) customer in the store I would have gotten the ice for the customer, but everyone has a different work ethic and his is not much! read more

Here's the bottom line: if you're picky about your flowers, and need them to be exactly right, go to Holley's Flowers At Woodcroft or somewhere. If you can get by with less specific arrangements and/or are looking for inexpensive flowers, then go with H-T. I had brought pictures with me when I met with the florist at H-T, including both the general color scheme and sample bouquets/boutonnieres. I gave her the pictures of what I was looking for in general, and she wrote down the specific changes I wanted. When I went to pick them up, she said, "You're an hour early" (which I was, to be fair). When I said that I'd be happy to come back later, she said that no, it was OK, because she had just finished. Then she told me that the flowers weren't like in the pictures. So I'm thinking, "OK, why did I tell you what I wanted, if you weren't going to do it?" I paid for the flowers and left. The boutonnieres and corsages were just fine. The bouquets didn't have everything I wanted in them, however, leaving out one of the colors entirely. The flowers that *were* there were put together very well--we didn't lose any blossoms during or after the ceremony. read more

Very impressed with this Harris Teeter today. When I had trouble finding items, the HT employee walked me to the item I was looking for. This happened for 2 items with 2 different employees. All the staff I saw were wearing masks. The cashier carefully packed all my items in bags making sure the lighter items went on top. He even asked if any of my fruits and vegetables were organic so he could bag them separately. All the staff I interacted with were very friendly and helpful. Good selection of items in this store. Some items are higher priced than other stores, but they also have good sale prices on specific items. So, I'll be going back again. read more

Express Lane is very poorly managed. Sometimes the intercom doesn't work or nobody answers. I'm sitting in my car right now waiting . Eventually had to call them on the phone - been sitting in the express lane as the only car for 10 minutes. read more

Well laid out excellent facility. The produce department is better than area stores. HT has a nice selection of regular produce and a large variety of organic products. The same is true of the meat department. The prices are always competitive and specials with buy one get one free or special senior citizen discount days can be real money savers. read more

I was very impressed by Ben in the deli / bakeshop last Saturday. I had a problem with a lost order at Brueggers (do not go there- awful customer service!) and went to my local Teeter in search of a replacement. Ben was able to cook SIXTY plain bagels for me in 15 minutes! He was so nice and helpful and my bad day turned wonderful thanks to Ben! read more

This Harris Teeter does not respect the county-wide mask mandate. The last two times I have been in the store, I have seen stockers and employees either unmasked or wearing them improperly. I went to the office to ask why the mandate was not being observed, and the two managers in there were unmasked! I turned around and came home and called, and was told that everyone wore a mask unless they had a medical reason. When I questioned this, the manager told me that it was a "HIPAA violation to even ask to see the doctor's excuse." The last time I looked, Harris Teeter was not a health care provider and thus does not fall under HIPAA regulations. He could not explain why the store does not care about the health of its shoppers, either by enforcing the county mask mandate or by assigning employees who have a LEGITIMATE MEDICAL EXEMPTION to areas in which they do not encounter the public. So if you care more about people's excuses than about your own health, then you will feel comfortable, but if you care about your health and that of your family, you might look elsewhere. read more

This store is so poorly run compared to every other grocery store in the area that I can only conclude that its convenience is its reason for existence. Shop elsewhere and avoid some of my recent experiences 1) A sick teller who was coughing and so obviously sick that the supervisor asked her if she wanted to go home (she didn't) 2) Employees and customers smoking outside. Why would folks buy organic healthy food and tolerate breathing smoke? 3) "Big brother" announcements that basically say ""someone is stealing something in aisle 3, turn on the cameras". I already do at least 1/2 my shopping at Food Lion because I have confirmed with them that don't insult their paying customers with these kinds of announcements [Roses take note, I don't shop there either] 4) Lazy tellers who don't put in your "discount code" right Fresh Market has happy (and healthy) people serving great food (and no cigarettes). For everything else the Food Lions are surprisingly full of happy, friendly staff - they must have better management. read more

I have been shopping at this HT for years but last night the customer service just was above and beyond expectations. Frequently I use the Express online service. There was a mix up at the store during pick up so when I came home i checked my order carefully and unfortunately I was missing a few items. So I called the store. The gentleman took my information and complaint. He then said he would get a resolution and call me right back. He called back quickly and advised that my groceries would be DELIVERED to my home within the hour. with his apologies. This is why I will continue to shop at University Mall HT. I am not one to write a complaint or bad review, but an unpleasant shopping experience is just that. I have lived in the area off and on for almost 20 years and still love it. I enjoy shopping Harris Teeter - great atmosphere and offers affordable shopping, however seems to be very lacking in customer service lately. Today, I waited in self checkout several minutes to have someone come over and assist me with my purchase. There were several associates walking around and a manager at the self-checkout (Rob) who never even acknowledged my presence or told me they could help me. After keeping me and others waiting, Rob went over to a customer that had just arrived, checked her out, and then finally walked over to me after I had to turn around and make it apparent I needed help (which was obvious because I was right in front of Rob's cash register. Rob offered no apology for my wait, no acknowledgement of my being there, nothing. This is not the first this has happened at self-checkout at this location. The whole point of self checkout is too have a quick and efficient checkout experience. I guess my just coming from a workout and being in running clothes may have warranted this kind of experience, but all customers should have an equal shopping experience. read more
