Visiting from out of town, I happened upon the store because I needed to make change for the bus. When I entered the store there was a cashier, a man behind a desk area and a woman standing by the front door who asked if I needed help. I told her that all I really needed was to make change. She said "we don't have that" rather dismissively. I was floored. I looked around at this massive store, the cash register's, the staff the millions worth of inventory and I said "really, with all this? And she said " really, with all this". I left the store with no change. The bus didn't make change. The driver let me on for free. There is a total wine in the town where I live, but I don't think I'll be going back there. read more

What a great selection of THC infused beverages! Since I've cut back on alcohol, I find these to be more than satisfactory. There is no liquor sold outside of state owned liquor stores here in NC. This leaves a sad hole in a part of the business that does well in other states. They have a very good wide selection, but I have an aversion to being pushed towards their corporately endorsed products. Those wines are fine but the ones I'm actually looking for are generally better and I don't like to spend time being pitched the wine that they want me to buy . They have a very good beer section. Plenty of stuff you probably never even heard of before and worth trying. They have a solid selection of cigars, kept in a good improper walk-in humidor. I find their snacks and cocktail accoutrements lacking. I buy them, but I'm usually left with the taste of mediocrity in my mouth. The service is very good. Their online presence and interactive website is wonderful. However, when I call on the phone, it's a hit or miss as to whether I will getan employee I feel is interested in serving my needs. read more

This is usually the total Wine that I come to you because it's closest to me and I have to say I have never been disappointed when I go in. Today Paul helped me and my two friends check out and he was very patient considering we all had customized six packs! They have a great selection of beers, wines, and ciders!! I once compared their price on a 12-pack of Miller High Life with the price for same at Harris-Teeter. Total Wine was a dollar less. Ha! I love their selection, their prices, their helpful staff. On Saturday November 8, 2025 around 6:50pm my sister and I (African Americans ) entered total wine located in Durham, NC. We selected two wine beverages and headed to the counter. Immediately the sales associate asked for both of our identification cards. My sister realized she didn't have her physical copy but had a photo in her phone. The sales associate declined to use the photo copy. My sister and I left the store to get her physical copy. We arrived back at total wine about 5 minutes later and selected the same beverages and got in line behind a Caucasian gentleman. There was a different sales associate at the register this time. Me and my sister both observed the customer being greeted and asked "are you a rewards member " to which he replied no. He paid for his items and exited the store. As soon as me and my sister approached the register we were again asked for our identification cards. The Caucasian gentleman before us was not asked. I asked the sales associate why were we asked and the gentleman before wasn't. To which she didn't have an answer for. I explained to her how we had to leave to get my sisters i.d and she didn't once ask the caucasian gentleman for his. I asked was the reason because me and my sister were two African American females, again no response. Instead she paged a manger for "back up". Two other employees (one of which was the original sales associate )approached the register and I explained my concern. Again, I asked what was the difference. Her response was "sometimes we ask people who look younger". From my understanding the law says everyone should show I.d when purchasing alcohol. Not those who appear younger. No apology was given. The manger even chuckled while I explained my frustration. No one cared about how we felt or how this situation impacted us. read more

This is a really nice store in Durham. Obviously lots of wine choices, but also a lot of craft and local beer selections. Plus you can get some growlers filled there as well. I think if I lived near one of these I would definitely be a member. Plus the staff were helpful. We were looking for Red Oak beer, which is really good if you haven't had it, and she showed us where it was They also have a humidor for cigars. The selection is decent since you don't really expect a wine store to have a walk in humidor(or at least I didn't) I have been here on several occasions and I am sure I will be again when I am in the area. read more

You kind of know what to expect at this point from a super store like this. You will get a great selection but might miss out on some nice wines from small wineries. On this occasion, I was looking for a very specific California cabernet and their website showed that they had it in stock. I had problems finding it but finally found a staff member who could assist me (they must have changed the labels because the bottle looked different than the photo on the internet). I think I'd still prefer supporting local mom and pop wine shops but will come here if I'm looking for a particular wine. read more

It was my first time ordering a keg. I called in a few days prior to my event and luckily there were a few bud light kegs in stock. They recommend calling into 1-2 weeks in advance to guaranteed a keg. The process was smooth and the gentlemen helping me on the other line was able to put my name on one of the kegs. When I arrived, I went into the freezer to grab my keg, loaded on cart, and checked out. The workers were also attentive and helpful. One of them helped me carry it out and loaded it onto my car. I wouldn't had been able to do it alone. I stopped by again and was able to get help to find the wine of my choice. Don't be afraid to ask for help, they'll help you! read more

The top of the wine bottle was shattered when we opened it. We had to drive back to the store and waste another 15 min worth of gas only to be met with "we can give you a an exchange or a refund in the form of a gift card." It wasn't their fault but a "sorry" would've been nice. They were not apologetic at all. When we opted for the exchange, they then suggested we OPEN the bottle in the store to check the new one (do NOT do this, as driving with an open bottle is against the law)! Buyer beware.. read more

I'm yet to be overly impressed by the selection. You should trust the staff definitely, however if you want to be blown away I think you'll have to pay over $20 for it. They do tastings from Friday - Sunday (at least in 2021 summer). You can find some local and interesting beers, even fulfill your seasonal beer needs. There is a cooler for cold beer too. Also, in the store is sake, kegs, cigars, cigar accessories, wine accessories, and a small selection of meat and cheese. If you know what you want, use the app or online, it's a quick and easy pickup process. Enjoy. read more

It's a big-box store, but on the two occasions I've needed to purchase in large quantities or variety, for an event, it's been a logical choice. I've utilized the staff in making decisions; and I also love the help of all the Wine Enthusiast awards, accolades, descriptions & staff picks they post on their offerings. (Fair warning: I did notice on last visit that a particular vineyard's chardonnay was being promoted with different accolades in no less than four areas of the chard section... they seemed to be product-pushing that item, so I wonder if it's a masked sponsor/partnership). Anyway, I've been pleased with what I bring home from here. And I love that the staff always seems to be enthusiastic about wine & beer, as though you're shopping in a Wine Authorities and not a chain. read more

Was there to waste some time and just look around during Black Friday and was approached by a few staff members that wanted to make sure I was doing ok and to see if I needed anything. This Total Wine was so nice! It was very clean and easy to navigate! While we were there, at least two different employees walked by and asked if we needed any help. We had been looking for a particular type of wine, and we had a picture of the bottle. The girl knew of it, and spent several minutes looking for it with us. While we were looking, she was able to point out different styles of the same brand, which was very helpful. She also recommended an app for us, that would allow us to take a picture of a bottle of wine, and it would bring up all the reviews about that particular wine. So cool! Shopping here makes me smile and re-evaluate my career choice. It seems like the happiest people work at this store. But then who wouldn't be happy if you got to taste wine a couple times a day every day you worked? I'm not a frequent customer, yet whenever I go in I end up having a 15 minute conversation with an employee about life (and wine, of course) because of the open atmosphere the staff provides. I've found out about upcoming marriages, crazy past customers, and been used as a guinea pig to prove that one of the daily reds they were doing a tastig for tasted like cough medicine. I really think the wine just lowers everyone's inhibitions as soon as they walk through the door. If you know what you like but don'tknow how to describe it, just talk to the employees. That's what they are there for, and they will point you in the right direction for your tastes and price point. read more

I'm actually not into wine, and have never bought wine at Total Wine. They have the best beer selection around. When I first moved here, I was pretty shocked at the awful beer selection in most grocery stores. But I knew I could count on Total Wine. I once worked in the beer industry and I can say this: if you can't find a certain beer in Total Wine, it' *probably* can't be found in the Triangle. I usually run in here if I am bringing fancy beer to a dinner. They also have a sweet keg room that you can walk in and explore (haven't had an opportunity to throw a kegger lately). A rare beer example: I was looking for Cottonwood Pumpkin Ale last fall (which is in my opinion, the best pumpkin beer ever). They keep their seasonal beers in a special section, and I didn't see it. I asked one of the workers, and the showed me where it was (kinda hidden, because they were down to their last case)! So you can find almost anything there... read more

I always feel kind of bad when I walk through the doors of Total Wine & More since they're basically the polar opposite of a small, independently owned wine or craft beer shop. However, you simply cannot beat the selection that they have here! So if I happen to be in the area, I do find myself meandering in here from time to time... Given that it's "Total Wine (& More)", you know that the wine selection is going to be phenomenal. And it is. All types of regions, grapes, price ranges, cork vs. bottle cap, etc. I like the "staff's selections" basically just because I think that's a fun thing. Though I often question whether the "staff's selections" match up pretty well to the wines they may have a surplus of and thus want to push/hype up all they can. However, that could just be my paranoia... Being more of a hops guy myself, I'm always blown away by their craft beer selection. It's quite expansive. Plus their prices seem to rival those of any other shop in town. (Maybe that's the advantage of being a humongous store?) I guess I'll just have to visit my favorite small craft beer shops more often to make up for any visits I may have to this establishment so I don't feel guilty anymore. This store has a wide variety of every wine you could think of, along with a vast selection of beers from all over the world. Whether you're a beer or wine drinker, this place has you covered. The staff is always helpful & friendly, though it's best to go on off-hours since it gets a little busy at night and on weekends. You can make your own six-pack of beers, which is always fun. They have kegs for sale, as well as growlers from local breweries. I'm never disappointed with the selection, and would certainly recommend you go check them out! read more

There are two things that Total Wine has going for it; 1. It is easy to get to. 2. It has beer and Wine. I will admit, I spend a ton of time and money in the store, but it feels more like taking shots in the dark. The staff seems knowledgeable (when I have found people to talk to) but many of them have drastically different tastes in wine than I do and I find that following the "recommendations" gives about the same success rate as picking four bottles in my price range and letting a stranger randomly choose a bottle. I enjoy going into the store to try out beer and wines, but am not sure I can genuinely push a rating into "fan" or "as good as it gets" ranges. I will admit that the seasonal Woodchuck ciders are guaranteed to make my gf happy, and they do carry my favorite Pinot Noir for a very reasonable price. read more

This is a massive store, so there is a big selection of wine sold here. That's pretty much all this store has going for it. Harris Teeter and Whole Foods have better cider selections, to say nothing of the plethora of bottle shops in the Durham area (where you could also find good wine at reasonable prices, with infinitely better customer service). The staff at this store are some of the least helpful people I have ever encountered in a retail. Most of them don't even try to pretend that they're happy to be there. My cashier somehow managed to be curt in the fifteen-second encounter we had while I was checking out. Some time later, I saw a return I had made had not been credited back to my card, so I called the store--I don't know why I was expecting help after my previous visits to the store, because I certainly did not receive any. I love total wine! They stock a plethora of imports and priced nicely. They don't have a loyalty program unfortunately. I guess I'm loyal enough even without one. They also do wine tastings and demo wines from around the world. I think they are probably on par with Southern Season in terms of quality, however, total wine is cheaper overall. This is the only other place apart from Parker & Otis that I've been able to locate Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blancs. Cheers! read more

Total Wine. Very. Big. Lots. Of Wine. It is a little dizzying, but it can't be argued that their prices are excellent as is their selection. But even with a Costco-esque vastness they didn't have ZD Pinot which is my fave, so what is the point?. I guess what it comes down to is that I like the more boutique wine experience, meaning the wines have all been tasted for me (by someone I can come back and yell at if it sucks), and I get the best of the best to choose from, otherwise it just gets overwhelming. Total Wine is one of the various places that I choose to buy my wine. This location is closest to home for me, so it is my Total Wine of choice. I love their selection and you can buy a good wine here for around $10. When I go here which is only a few times a year, I tend to stock up on multiple bottles of wine and beer. For a store that is called 'Total Wine' their beer selection is actually pretty good. I have always found the service at this TW to be knowledgeable and friendly, not that I have had to use their help much. The way they have the wine organized and the description cards below the wine areas are typically limit any human assistance I need . You won't get the individualized attention here at this big-box chain that you might at a smaller, independent wine store; but for the price, selection and convenience it is a great place to get your wine and beer. read more

Rating the beer selection. Probably the largest amount of unique beers in the area apart from Sam's Quik Shop in Durham, but the beer is unlikely to be fresh and almost none is refrigerated. Pricing for some of the languishing import bottles is cheap - around $1-2 a bottle. This is your best bet to find beers from obscure countries in the area, but quality is much lower than Sam's Quik Shop. Staff usually not super helpful. read more

Sake! Yes, they have Sake! TW&M has a wonderful selection of wine, beer, bar supplies, and snacks, but what prompted me to write this is review is that I've found they have Sake. Now, it's not a huge selection, but they do carry the finer grades - Junmai Ginjo and Junmai Daiginjo. They also have the unfiltered Nigori Sake. Hardcore Sake enthusiasts will find a larger selection at Li Ming's, but this is a fine place to pick up a couple of bottles while you're stocking up on other supplies. read more

Terrible service. Purchased $300 worth of bottled beer for a wedding. No one offered to help or add any assistance. Cashiers were busy talking amongst theirselves. I was in town for a week and this is where I bought a couple six packs. I bought a couple six packs out of the cooler over the week that cost between 7.99 -10.99. Normal prices per micro brews nowadays. Here is where my review goes south. As a bought six packs throughout the week I would cruise the beer selection they have for micros/ imports. I decided later that week to grab two six packs to take back north. I had to work my way up and down one isle at a time because there is no classification of style, producer, cost....Complete disarray when it comes to finding beer. I spent at least an hour looking for beers to complete two six packs. When I asked how much mixed six packs are the guy said the prices are on the shelves. Ugh!!! Are you kidding me!!! No discount?!!?? I systematically tried to make a six pack of beers I really wanted. Looking at the dates on the bottom of some of the beers I chose ones that were almost a year old( if properly stored some beers will be ok, certain conditions...I digress) I honestly tried to put them back into the same place I found them, but gave up with two left. No Shit! I paid 30.00 for a fucking six pack and a 24 oz bottle. To be honest I was so disappointed. I would pay good money for beers that are properly stored and properly discounted when they are over a year old. If I am back in the area I will search for another place to buy beer. I would recommend that they do a complete reboot of how they sell, organize their beer. Out of the 5 beers that I drank today, one was flat and no worthy of drinking. The other had off flavors. Avoid buying beers from this place until they figure it out!!!! read more
