We were deciding between Harrington or a popular online couch company, but ultimately went with Harrington since for about the same price they offered customization, faster delivery, and created the couches locally in California. Throughout the process we experienced wonderful customer service. They chatted with us over Facetime multiple times to choose our perfect couch color and lock in the details. One of the coolest furniture stores in sf, lots of vintage and new pieces from multiple designers. I got a small round table and two chairs(shown in photo). I also went with my bf and they were really honest about a piece they sold to him at a huge discount because of a flaw in the design.The only negative is they don't do delivery(even for a fee), but I recommend calling Uber xl if it is a smaller piece. read more

I bought a sofa a year ago from Harrington. This was my first big furniture purchase in a while and I am glad I made the right choice with this place! The sofa is SUPER comfortable and feels the same as when I got it a year ago, maybe even better since I broke it in. I've made a few spills on it, and although it's a white fabric I was able to get even red wine out just by using folex. I was shopping around for a while and at the time sofa's I wanted from Room & Board, Crate and Barrel, even Living Spaces were telling me 10-12 weeks out for delivery. Harrington, however, was able to deliver in 6! Customer service was great and Fiona answered my questions via email in a timely manner. Overall highly satisfied with my purchase. :) read more

Updated review: After giving them 1 star I am modifying to 3 stars, as I was given a payment to make up for the part of the sofa that was defective. While I am glad we were able to get some sort of resolution, it's unfortunate how long it took and that we have a piece of furniture that isn't holding up. *** Old review: I regret shopping here. Spent nearly $6k in new furniture in the fall of 2020, including $4k for a custom made queen sleeper sofa. About a year and a half after purchase/delivery, started noticing a severe warping across the base of the sofa where the cushion rests. Also started noticing the foam of the support pillows in some starting to contort, not keeping a normal shape. Earlier this year (less that 3 years) the fabric started to develop holes. I reported this issue starting in the early summer of 2022. It took a long time to get a reply, and delays in responding were always met with excuses. The owner finally came to our house to examine the issue of the warping many almost a year after reporting the issue. Her solution was to smooth it out with her hand and call it a victory. Less than 24 hours later, the area continued to to show the deformity. I continued to request for some kind of make good. Often my messages would go without a reply for weeks, sometimes more than a month. So I kept chasing. In the summer I was finally told a partial refund would be considered, but then there was no reply. I continued to follow up only to be met with excused, and told they would get in touch at a certain date. They asked to come to the house again, which I declined, as they had come once and I supplied them with numerous photos. Finally I was offered a 20% refund on just the portion of the sofa damaged. I pushed back and suggested it should be off the the entire sofa given the other damage areas. Then there was no reply for several weeks. Finally, after more prodding, they replied 2 weeks ago and instead offered a "matching ottoman" as a solution. I immediately replied that was not acceptable, and have followed up multiple times and gotten no answer. From a customer service perspective, this is ranks among the worst I've had. I was happy to shop locally and support a long-standing SF business vs. going big box, but I deeply regret the decision and would urge anyone to think twice before entering the store. They clearly don't stand for quality, and clearly don't care about the customer experience. read more

I always love going into Harrington's, whether it's for a particular piece or just to browse. It's a beautiful space and they're really knowledgeable and helpful, including with our purchase a couple of years ago of a custom sofa that would fit in our Edwardian flat's smallish living room. We wound up with a sofa that is the perfect size and with lovely fabric that is also very forgiving of occasional mishaps. We've also gone in hunting a new dining table and finally found the right one on our last visit. They're a classic, family-owned small business in SF, something that has become harder to find and even more important to support in our city over the last couple of decades, and the great thing is, you can support them and quality culture in SF while also getting quality furniture. read more

I was in here the other night and experienced something bizarre... I walked-in with a group of 4 adults and a toddler and were walking through the store admiring the furniture. We weren't greeted when we walked-in, which wasn't really a big deal because it seemed as if the two employees I saw working here were busy with inventory or a similar project. After being in the store for a few minutes one of them began turning-off all the lights in the store and nothing was mentioned to us...we eventually made our way out of the store, but it was extremely odd. Usually if a store is closing, customers are notified that the store will soon be closing its doors and we didn't experience that. We were completely ignored when we walked-in and then were not spoken to when it came to the store closing...it almost came off as a passive-aggressive way to get customers out of the store by not saying a single thing to them, but rather, giving subtle hints by turning off all the lights in the store. This was awful customer service and it's unlikely that I would return or refer friends to shop here. read more

Dropping into Harrington's was one of the BEST shopping experiences of my life. First, the team there is kind, knowledgeable and thoughtful. Second, their inventory is beautiful, unique and diverse. Third, it felt personally delightful to buy from a family-owned business in the era of cookie-cutter big box stores and amazon. I mentioned I was looking for a particular kind of dining table, and the gentleman went out of his way to show me options on and off the floor (but 100% friendly, 0% sales-y). I didn't see exactly what I wanted on the first trip, but the vibe was comfortable and alluring, so I dropped in 2 or 3 more times that month. When a beautiful 19th-century California farmtable appeared on the floor, we immediately asked to buy it. Even though it was an investment for our budget, we had complete trust in the quality and price. He personally delivered and installed the table that week, and it felt as though a friend was dropping something special off. Their table is the centerpiece of our apartment, and a foundation for epic dinner parties (and now, so many video conference calls). I cannot recommend Harrington's enough - drop by! Sometimes the founder (the father of the woman who runs the shop now) is sitting up front, and it warms my heart to be greeted by him. You can even see aerial photos of the store decades ago, before Valencia gentrified. As someone who didn't grow up in San Francisco, buying from Harrington's sincerely felt like a way to honor this city's history. read more

Went to Harrington Galleries to see if they wanted to buy my Vintage Deco Armoire (it is awesome, but I was moving and didn't have room). I walked in and the owner - an older man, and a person he works with, Giovanna, were there. The owner said he would buy it for $250 but I had to deliver. I left and thought about it, and went back down to say okay and see what next steps were and to see if I could get more in store credit. Giovanna was there and said yes but she would have to double check how much. I told her I was hiring movers to bring it in and would be back in a couple of hours. She then told me okay and that she hoped that the owner wasn't going to be here because he might be difficult. I should have seen that as a sign but I just thought it puzzling. Why would be be difficult when he agreed to the price already? I ask her about the process, and she says she will have the paperwork ready for me when I arrive with the armoire. I hire movers. We load up the armoire and start down valencia toward Harringtons and I call to let her know I am on my way. She says "I am so glad you called. I spoke to the owners daughter and she said we aren't going to buy it back after all - sorry I don't have the authority to make any decisions." Then she says "The best I can do is $250 credit but no cash." After expressing my frustration she says "How about $350 in credit" I say "Ok fine" since I have already hired the movers and we are literally a block from the store. Then she says "Wait, I don't know if I can actually do that! I need to call the owners daughter." SHe can't get a hold of her. The movers (who I am paying by the hour) and I sit and wait to see if she can reach her. She can't. She then offers me $250 in credit. At that point I say forget it. Never never shop there. Never try to sell your stuff to them. Never do business with them. They are unethical, they don't honor their word, and they don't care if you are inconvenienced or go to expenses because you trusted them at their word. I told Giovanna I would write this on yelp, and she said "you won't be the first" Charming. In response to Harrington's response: 1. once again they are not afraid to lie outright. They renegged on what they promised on the phone BEFORE I arrived at the store with the armoire - they didn't offer me less after they saw the condition of the furniture. The owners daughter didn't show me the courtesy of being there when I arrived - she never even saw the armoire. 2. I asked my movers to make an extra stop to her store. I paid the hourly rate of 4 movers to drive out of the way, stop there, and then sit out front and wait for 20 minutes as Giovanna tried getting a hold of the owner to ask if there was anything she could do. Sorry, I know the economy sucks - but I don't understand why they think that is an excuse for their unethical behavior. EVERYONE - want to get some cool furniture? Go to the antique furniture mart on bayshore. They have great stuff, affordable, and it is local, and they have always dealt with me in a fair way. read more

We found the china cabinet we had been looking for here and paid to get it delivered. I was a little worried when we asked about returns and Giovanna pulled back the receipt and said all sales were final and she would prefer not to do business with us if we weren't at all sure. Oooookay...well, we like the piece but that sure isn't a customer friendly attitude. Anyway, she said deliveries were delayed and we would have to wait a few days and that they would call. Nope, few days later and no call. So we call and push hard and get a date. Delivery people were a couple of hours late on the day but no big deal. They deliver the item, walk out of the house, and then we notice the big chunk taken out of the front and the scratch on the side. Neither of these were on it when we bought it and thankfully we took pictures in the store to prove it. Call up Harringtons and tell them of the problem, and dude checks with his manager who says she can't do anything about it and we have to talk to Giovanna. We firmly explain that if a manager can't deal with customer problems then perhaps she should have a different title and to please put her on the phone. She comes on and we explain the problem, and she offers a pittance and when we push back she informs us that she is "exhausted" and can't deal with it and we are going to have to talk to Giovanna. Cool. I get to check out from doing my job when I am exhausted too. So Giovanna calls the next day, offers a slightly larger pittance and by this time we have spent more time on the issue than the money is worth and accept. But we will never go back. I'll never understand why businesses like this hate their customers so much but from this experience and the reviews on Yelp I can see this is clearly their attitude. And, to Harrington's, go ahead and reply to this review with a weak sob story about how you are just a tiny little business trying to make a go of it in this big bad world, waaah waaah waaah. There are a ton of small businesses who I will go out of my way to work with because they provide a great product at a fair price with amazing service. You could learn from them. read more

Whenever I stumble in to Harrington Galleries, I am always a bit confused to their business model - is it a bike shop? A thrift store? A retailer of new, but antique styled furnishings? Really it seems like a smattering of lots of things. The furniture and decor in the lower level is often quite pretty with styles ranging from danish modern to rustic/industrial. They will encourage you to visit their upstairs section, and if you can withstand the clown portrait lined staircase, you will ultimately end up in an area which feels a lot like scratch and dent, only without the deep discounts. I am not saying there aren't some beautiful pieces here (and if you want a public bike, this is the place) but overall its a bit hodgepodge and overpriced. read more

So... is it a front for something criminal? The person setting the prices is clearly almost as high as the prices they're setting... I used to attend an event on the same block at a friend's house for nearly two years, always wanting to try to catch Harrington when they were open - it happened twice: The first time I was in a rush and wanted to check on the price on a cool wire basket - thinking they'd be in the $20-40 range. Nope: $85.00. Hell no. The second (and LAST) time, I went in to browse. There was no indication of it being close to closing time. There was no greeting, of course, either. After about 30 seconds of browsing, I was told - and, yes, this is a quote: "we're closing". That was it. Again, I want to know if this is some sort of front because how could they stay in business otherwise - though it could be someone's hobby store... So if you're thinking of a visit there, skip it. read more

I had one decent experience with the store and what was great that they are willing to negotiate the price on my dresser, but however when I bought a lamp from the store there was some shady stuff going on. I purchased a lamp, but realized after a couple of days the lamp just didn't work in my room, so wanted to return a lamp or at least do an exchange. There was nothing on the receipt, nothing on the table from what I saw where I made my purchase since it was a bit cluttered and the woman who rung me up said nothing about her policy. When I called back, she said it was on the receipt, but the only receipt I received was the credit card receipt which had nothing but my card info and the price. Her justification was the item is an antique and was bought from a dealer, however other stores in this country sell antiques and have better policies to accommodate their customers. The bottom line is there are some nice stuff in the store, but if you have even a tiny doubt about whether an object will work in your room, you might want to consider going somewhere else. There are other stores in the city who will allow you to return a product or will even loan you the item for 24 hours or so to see if it works in your room before purchase. Ultimately the woman who helped me was very nice, but I will not shop there again. read more

I want to give this place a great review, I really do. They're in a great location and have a wonderful space to show off their furniture. But unfortunately its a bit of a waste in my opinion. Their selection ranges from kitschy 70s decor to busted and dusty 80s decor. Slightly better selection than what you'd find at the thrift shop about a half block away. This was the first place that had interesting styles and amazing fabrics. I wanted something bold, not the bland brown or tan that you find everywhere else. Gotta be honest, I've gotten some pretty cool stuff here. Most recently, a silver/tin trunk parked outside caught my eye and so I walked inside. Immediately the shop owner asked me if I was looking for anything and I mentioned the trunk and how I was looking for something to store records in. She mentioned that she had a ton more of the trunks in similar sizes in the upstairs room and I found a large one (being optimistic about the size of my record collection) and purchased it. Being Labor Day, I got a discount. You can also get a discount if you pay cash I found the shop owner to be delightful, informative, and helpful. I didn't have a car and she let me park my bicycle in the back while I loaded the trunk into a Uber to get back to my apartment. I've also looked into getting a sofa made by Harrington. They have nice, classic designs and you can choose the fabric. For anyone looking to step up their interior from Ikea, not wanting to spend too much, and interested in some good collected tastes, Harrington is the place! read more

When I first wandered into this place, I had no knowledge of their dubious reputation. I was pleasantly surprised by their vast (although slightly overpriced) selection and the two friendly staff members. I found a cute bench that I wanted to buy, but I was in no position to take it home with me at the time. I came home and was horrified to read about this business on yelp. Nevertheless, I went back a week later to see if the bench was still there (I couldn't help myself... it was so cute!). The staff (two different people) were extremely helpful; they helped me find it AND they dropped the price by 20%. There is little doubt that my altogether pleasant experience had much to do with the absence of the old crank who apparently owns the place and the fact that I wasn't using their moving services. It's hard to give such a high rating to a business that clearly has serious problems, but based on my own experiences it wouldn't be fair to do otherwise. read more

I'm not sure why all the reviews are bad - I LOVED everything about this place. First off, I had a $300 budget for a table and chairs for my kitchen. I didn't think I'd be able to find anything since a lot of the stuff was gorgeous and expensive, but I found a TON of affordable furniture upstairs. I got a beautiful, lightly loved, table, 2 awesome fabric covered chairs and a retro sky-blue chair all for under $300. Also, Owen is amazing and so helpful and I'm so glad he was there both days to help me. He was super patient, friendly and gave thoughtful advice and input on my choices. He helped me load everything into my car and I loved him. The end. :) read more

Considering they didn't show up in their allotted delivery time frame (2 hrs late - but the delivery guys were really nice and apologized), plus when I originally called to arrange the delivery they were a little vague about the order, and then rang me back to reconfirm what I even ordered!!! (holy sh*!, nothing like scaring me for just dropping a few hundred $$ on a piece of furniture!!!) - I am not surprised at these reviews. Fun for browsing, they have some nice pieces in good condition (if over priced) and have recently expanded upstairs. Customer service was fine - I like not being harassed by every sales person to ask me how I am (how my day is, and what I ate for breakfast, etc.) so happy we could browse in peace, and it was easy to find someone to help us when we found a piece we liked. Definitely the after sale and delivery that concerns me. Saying that - most people won't review a furniture store before purchase - perhaps I will in future! read more

I'm so sad to see the negative reviews here, because I really love this place. The salespeople are always so nice and knowledgeable, and laid back. I also just came in and bought a bookshelf and 4 chairs and 1) I absolutely love all the pieces and the colors they have (red, green, orange, yellow, blue, teal, etc) and 2) the most adorable employee, Omar, helped me trek all the crap back to my apartment (only 3 blocks away) on dollies, which they don't normally do. Plus, they didn't have the colors I wanted in the metal stools, so they are going to order them for me Monday! And have you been upstairs?! That place is a HUGE with tons of great mid-century furniture. Plus the bike shop attached and funness happening in front is always worth a walk by. read more

Although not my favorite vintage store on the block, Harrington Galleries is always worth a browse. They have quite a mixed bag of items - some really nice pieces, and some real clunkers mixed in. The pricing is also a bit high for the quality of the merchandise inside. Whereas some of the pieces are truly beautiful vintage pieces, others are just old. But I have been in there and ben able to negotiate some prices on items I was interested in. But the one thing that stands out to me, time after time, has been the customer service! I'm only greeted or acknowledged about half the time I've entered the store. I once left my name and number inquiring about their new bookcases and small tables that they've started carrying, because I was extremely interested in purchasing a bookcase in a certain size and color. Never heard from them again. The strangest thing, however, was when I went in to pick up a piece of furniture that I had purchased a few weeks ago before going out of town. It was busy, so I waited at the counter for a bit for someone to help me, which I didn't mind. When I finally got some assistance, the woman let me walk out of there with it without bothering to check if I was the actual purchaser. All I said was that I had bought it, and she said "okay." I'm lucky someone dishonest hadn't walked in there before I had a chance to pick it up and claimed to have bought it! read more

First of all, everything in this store is GORGEOUS. Unfortunately, I can't afford most of it, but it's still fun to look around and browse, right? I went in hoping to find a decently priced full length mirror. There were many mirrors on the wall but all out of my price range. Finally I came across a wooden framed mirror about 4 feet tall and 2.5 feet wide without a price tag. Fiona gave me a great deal and was very patient while I was deciding on whether to purchase or not. I'm very happy with my purchase and am impressed that it was in near perfect condition. read more

This is one of the few used furniture galleries in SF where the inventory is worth the higher-end prices. Most of the selection I've seen is mid-century and older, but there are some fantastic finds here. And the best part is that Fiona (the owner) is more than willing to negotiate if you buy something on the spot! Trust me, you cannot beat that. A lot of furniture stores in the Mission are sitting overstocked because they refuse to lower the price on their overpriced junk, but not here. Name your (reasonable) price, and Fiona will make you a deal. While some items are a bit high, chances are it'll be on sale the next time you visit. I recently bought a chair that was originally $350, was on sale for $245 and bargained it down to $200 because I bought it right there and then. This place is an interior decorator's dream because of the rare pieces and retro furniture collections. There is something here for everyone. You will not be disappointed! read more
