We had our in laws with us, so 4 of us in total stayed comfortably in the cottage. It was the perfect get away! We had a large deck that overlooked the bay with BBQ grill which we used every night. The kitchen was stocked with dishes, pots, pans, and utensils. We ordered lobsters from Inn owners one night and regretted waiting so long to do so. Jane will steam them and deliver them right to your room. The lobsters were excellent! And I have to say that they tasted even better than those we've had in restaurants. We rented their boat one day and took it out to Bailey Island. We were able to dock it at Morse's for some lunch. We borrowed kayaks another day. We can't wait to go back!

It isn't super close to Old Port, but it's about a 20-25 minute walk, even faster if you have a car or bike. Our host, David, was so gracious and kind. He gave us all kinds of tips on where to eat, what to see, and which neighborhoods to check out. And the breakfast options. Holy moly. These are some of the things David made: lobster souffle; turkey bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast puff pastry; raspberry custard; pancakes with wild blueberry compote; lobster home fries. Honestly, some of our best meals in Portland were eaten right in this very B&B. He even puts snacks in the second floor lounge area (there's also tea and chips) every day, and on an especially hot day he put out a pitcher of pink lemonade. It seems like almost all the cooking and cleaning is done by him. I'm not sure how he manages it and yet everything is flawless, but there you go. Reserve your room early because it was booked solid the whole time we were there. Totally worth it.

They bend over backwards to try and make your stay memorable. The inn is a wonderful old Phippsburg home and has many different rooms you can stay in. The beds and linens were divine, the bathrooms more humble of the rooms I crept into to have a discrete look. Our room the Woodshed was an.....old woodshed! It overlooked the water, and the early morning brought....SILENCE! Wonderful....no noise, little light...thus we snoozed for ages.....and did other things in complete privacy.....but none of that is your business!!!!! The breakfast time is flexible, the food served satisfying and fresh. We had fresh scrambled eggs with ham mixed in, started with greek yoghurt and fresh berries...but you could choose from many items. Now onto the tea.....being a fellow innkeeper (who's standards are demanding!!!!) and BRITISH....I am VERY demanding on my morning cuppa....and they delivered! The home is impressive and Phippsburg and Bath in general are not like Camden....over developed and touristy. You can cycle from their inn to Popham beach and fort...where there is a great restaurant, not fussy, serving fresh lobster (out of the tank in front of you!) and a plethora of other dishes. John & Jackie the innkeepers try to please in a quiet and relaxed way, are not over burdening, and take pride in their home....but do welcome one to use many parts of it. The setting overlooks the water and is next to a church....I could go on....but won't....just get yourselves booked in when you are 'doing' the Maine coast.

Rooms are beautiful, beds are very comfortable, and there's a ton of indoor and outdoor common space. John and his staff were so nice (Jackie was out of town, but sounds like she's great too) and we and our friends instantly felt at home. It's well worth the price, which is very much on par with other places in the area that aren't nearly as beautiful, comprehensive, or welcoming. I added a photo from first thing in the morning. I got up, grabbed some coffee and homemade granola with yogurt and fresh fruit and went and sat on the deck overlooking the river. Such a great way to start the day. A little hint - when you call to book, don't be put off by how laid-back they are about the reservations. I don't think they asked for any money up-front to confirm or anything. Being 'city-folk', we found this a little scary, but they are on the ball. Don't worry! There's a lot to do in the area, too, if you like the outdoors - go down to Popham Beach and take a walk, visit Fort Popham, grab lunch or dinner at Spinney's, hike one of the many trails, bring a bike and tackle the windy, hilly Parker Hill Road, or pop into Bath if you want a little more (but not too much) action. In retrospect, I would have missed a treat had we not stayed at the Brewster House Bed & Breakfast on Main Street in Freeport, Maine. Owned and run by Kelleigh and Dave, the latter is a trained chef, and the former is a consummate professional in caring for their customers. We also had the pleasure of meeting one of their children and heard a couple of hilarious stories about some oil changing mishaps. Turns out, the breakfast part of the B&B is my element. Instead of one long table, which some B&Bs provide, Brewster House offers smaller tables for two or in our case, tables together to accommodate three guests. We were all seated in one room, a dark blue-walled space with white antique dishes and a moose head as decoration, close enough to talk, yet separated enough to have private conversations. All of us guests chatted and laughed and shared stories as Kelleigh deftly served and described each day's three courses. Dave occasionally looked out, but seemingly a bit shy for compliments stayed in his kingdom of that wonderful kitchen. Here's to Dave who shared some of his culinary acumen in the forms of shirred eggs with fresh greens, firm peaches donned with whipped topping, blueberry-kissed French toast, and so very moist waffles with dreamy homemade syrup. The bath towels were of good, heavy quality, which is important to me and the lotions and soap with little images of a Maine village were nice touches. Being from Florida, we weren't certain if we were dreaming at night when air conditioning was not needed. The property is several decades old and one can hear that when ascending and descending stairs, but they were sturdy so that's all that really matters. I sat on the multi-colored rockers on the porch at the side a time or two and absorbed the peace that I felt at Brewster House. I may never visit Maine again, but Brewster House Bed & Breakfast is etched into my memory as one of my favorite things about my first visit to Freeport, Portland and surrounding quaint towns in Maine. If you ever plan on visiting the area, give this historic location a try.

We wanted a mini getaway so we booked a room at this very sweet B&B. It's the off season and we…read morewere the only guests, so it was very quiet. Since there are only three guest rooms I imagine it's a serene place to stay any time of year. The owners were very friendly and served a delicious breakfast. We stayed in the Fireside room, which as its name suggests has a lovely (and warm) gas fireplace. On a cold April night it was so cozy in our room. The whole inn has unique antique touches but with all the amenities you would want. Rooms: Since we were the only guests I was able to check out the other rooms, all of which were lovely. The Fireside room has the fireplace (you'll likely only use it in the winter/fall because it does produce heat), pretty vintage wallpaper, and a comfortable bed with a firm mattress. You have to step down into the bathroom area and the sink is inside the bedroom, which I found to be funky/charming. If you want a tiny bit more privacy book the Androscoggin room. It also has the best view, a little seating area, and it's the only room with a bathtub (the other two have showers). I thought the Garden room was the prettiest room, but that is subjective of course. The photos here and on their website are accurate, the house is very clean and beautifully appointed. A few traveler tips: The rooms don't have TVs but there is one in the common area downstairs for guest use. This didn't bother us but for some it may be an issue (or a bonus). The stairs are steep and may be challenging for anyone with limited mobility (all guest rooms are upstairs). The only very minor complaint I have -and this does not effect my 5 star rating because we knew about it ahead of time- is that they only serve breakfast until 9am, checkout is at 10:30, and there is no flexibility on either (on Sundays anyway, in order for the owners to attend church). We overslept by 15 minutes and they graciously still served us, I wouldn't have been upset if they closed the kitchen as it was our mistake. They also said that checkout was at 10:30, but at 10:18 the owner came to our door to usher us out. BUT, like I said we knew about this ahead of time and still chose to book, and we're glad we did. It was a lovely stay.
