Good place to pick up trees, plants, shrubs, and other gardening needs. They have a decent selection of domestic and imported items, but some of the prices seem pretty high. We did notice sale tags on some of the trees and bushes. Staff is relatively friendly with some of them providing more info than others. Spring is here and summer is just around the corner. My wife and I love to surround ourselves with green as much as possible. This year, my wife wanted to get some new plants but most of the nurseries and stores near our place were either sold out of the ones she wanted or simply too expensive for what you get. After some research, we found that Harpers had the plants for a great price and it was a quick short drive away - perfect excuse for a road trip to Hamilton. We pre-ordered everything online ahead of time. They were doing front-door pick up so it was really convenient. I'm happy to see that the staff were practicing social distancing and took the necessary measures for everyone's safety. We took a quick walk through the nursery just to see what other selections they had and I have to say, that this is a great one stop shop for any gardening needs. Soil, tools, plant food, pots... anything you can think of they have it. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. It felt nice to be in a community space and not a big superstore like Lowes or Home Depot where you have to go chase down someone to get help. These are the kinds of businesses we should be supporting always, not just through a pandemic. I can't wait to order some more greens from Harpers. I always enjoy a good road trip! read more

Maybe it's because it's the middle of winter, but I was a bit disappointed with the selection that was available. I had heard that Harper's regularly has rare plants and while that is true (they had some rare Hoyas and calatheas), I find the prices really high compared to other nurseries. They had a plant that I was interested in but was twice the price at another nursery. I had a hard time justifying my purchases when I came here. Harper's Garden Centre Al Frisina Mario Nesci Normally I don't post bad reviews as I do believe in putting money towards small businesses but.... The owner Al called me to discuss an incident that had happened last week when an employee happened to drive up on my trailer gate with a loader not only snapping it but forcefully pushing my truck forward while in park. First they put the wrong soil on and I asked them to take it off as I asked for triple mix and they gave me topsoil Than he proceeded to drive on my trailer gate pushing my brand new truck 5 feet lifting the trailer up and than I said stop and told him I'd take my gate off but it was already broken than he said it would be fine did it again and I said no and me and my workers helped him shovel it off Than I went to the front told them and the manager was friendly told me to get a quote. 5 days later I get a call and the first thing the owner said to me was "Hi listen ,what I think is going on here is your lying to get a free trailer" not even Hi I'm sorry this happened Like really All I wanted is a sorry and to fix what they broke Not only was I harassed and called plenty of names and made to feel like a liar.Than he told me to lawyer up as as he wouldn't be giving me nothing and I was not welcome back at harpers anymore!! They said in their video surveillance they watched the truck be pushed but mysteriously they didn't see how. So fellow landscapers let this be a lesson don't go to overpriced harpers when your in a crunch go to Acers. Harper's is open 7 days a week, that's right including Sunday! That is what drew Cheri and me to the store for our waterfall project. They have a huge section of rocks in their yard, for anyone wanting to learn, it is ideal! In addition, we must admit we are extremely happy with the service there. Every area has at least one expert expect - perennials, water plants, fertilizers, you name it. People there helped us a lot along the way, no ego or judgment of our beginner questions. On delivery service from Harper Service, takes forever to deliver to your house, mine took two weeks even its only ten minutes drive away. Called them and they just left after lunch hour and nothing yet till past 3 pm. So extremely disappoint in their delivery service whereas other competitors did quite quicker. So wont use their service next time. Their selection of tree available are alright. read more

I visited this garden center for the 1st time after hearing about the awesome collection of rare and unique herbs they had, and after arriving on site, I was told "were sold out" and 2 staff members gave me a eyebrow raised look.... I'm not sure what's strange about wanting to buy herbs in the Fall, especially for those of us who want to maintain certain plants inside our homes or greenhouses throughout the year. Either way I was able to head elsewhere (Terra in Waterdown actually) who always seems to deliver to get some herbs. Probably will make this my go-to place for now on. read more

Harper's Garden Centre has been around way before the big stores such as Lowe's, Home Hardware, Walmart and I feel we as a community should try to support our individual smaller business to become successful and thrive within our community. I would like to tell you about my experience. Harper's Garden Centre has the most colourful and vibrant selection of healthy plants and flowers I have seen in a long time. You can clearly see that the new owners have the consumers best interest at heart. Harper's are purchasing products to suit the needs of the community with a customer comes first attitude. This type of service has been lacking in business for quite sometime. Speaking for myself I'm tired of the big chain experience and welcome more of what Harper's is trying to achieve with a sense of community. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They conduct demonstrations on how to plant and look after your garden or landscaping. I think local schools would certainly benefit in taking a field trip to Harper's to help children understand the importance of growing and taking care of plants and vegetation. This will also promote a greener tomorrow attitude within them. I found Harper's to have the largest selection of trees, flowers, bushes, herbs and the most unique decorations for your back yard I have ever seen. I myself purchased lava rocks and a water fountain. I would also like to add if your wondering about pricing, Harper's has the best prices around and not only the best prices they really do take the time to make sure the quality over exceed their pricing. A final note..there coffee is to die for and a must try if your going. I know I will be going back to Harper's for all my garden and landscaping needs we need more business like this and I'm going to do whatever I can to support a community based business. I bought 4 emerald cedar 7 gal trees on June 20, 2018. Receipt clearly stated " original receipt required for returns and warranties, nursery stock warranty void if 40% off, 40% or more items are final sale, 30 day return policy on all hard goods, all custom arrangements and merchandise is final sale" The girl who sold me her name Rachel is printed on the receipt. I asked her if the trees die, can I bring them back for exchange, she said, yes. Today I called the Harper's Garden centre. I informed the lady on the phone about my purchase and that I have two dead trees that I like to exchange, she said, yes, bring them in with your two dead trees and the original receipt. As asked, I followed the instructions. I got to the nursery and spoke to the lady on cash and explained the same. I man standing by took the receipt and explained me that I have no warranty as per stated clause on the receipt, as per above. I informed him I was informed by their staff Rachel that I could. My reasoning was....when a staff member informs you that I can bring the dead trees back then the warranty on the receipt is void since the staff member working there states that I can bring the trees back if they die. So based on that I got into deliberations with this man at Harper's Garden Centre. I asked him to give his name. He refused. I asked him to give me the name of his manager, he refused, and said he is the manager. I asked him to give me the name of his manager or owner. He said he was the owner. Owners don't act like this, they find solutions to mitigate and solve problems for their paying or paid guests. Clearly, no shame, no remorse, no empathy, no customer service skills, unprofessional. If this is what the owner at this place is like, it's a disgrace to the business. I have spent over $600 with Harper's Garden Centre this summer and this is how I get treated. Harper's should know their business works on excellent customer service, their business exists because of their loyal customers who come back to buy quality product and service. I am very upset how they treat their customers. Terrible! I will never ever be giving them my business. read more
