My favorite Harold's. My food be on point every single time & I just moved back home so I'm up here way too much!

I picked up food from here last night. I placed a separate order for a desert. The person behind the desk asked if I wanted to get it when the food is done. I said yes. They called our order and I grabbed it and left. Halfway on the ride home, I realized my banana pudding was not in the bag. I called several times and no one answered. I went today to get my pudding and the woman behind the glass was very rude. I've been going to that Harold's since 1982, as it is in my childhood neighborhood (103rd) and I cannot remember ever being as offended by an interaction. I suppose there is a first time for everything. It pains me to say, as much as I'm always yelling about #27 being the best, that it is no longer the case. I think a larger conversation needs to be had about the way we are treated in our communities by each other and the lack of basic customer service skills. read more

This location is open again. I visited Harold's Chicken #27 on June 3rd, 2021. The food was ordered online, and cooked promptly. I had a 6-piece chicken dinner, which includes fries, bread, and Cole Slaw. In my opinion, the food was very good, and seasoned well. The food was hot and fresh when we picked it up. The customer service was good this day, so I have no complaints. There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant, and street parking as well. I would visit this location again. read more

Harold's Children Shack is a Chicago favorite. This Harold's also provided some hometown entertainment. While waiting in line to place an order a guy walks in and and walked up to everyone in line and asked each of us if we would buy him some food. There were about 6 of us in line. Working his way from the end of the line to the front. Everyone said no, or no I'm sorry not tonight. He goes to the counter and ask if they can give him some food. When they tell him no, he asks to speak with the Manager. The cook comes out and tells him to leave he's trespassing. Ok I place my order for a large chicken liver that comes with fries and a slice of wheat bread as he's leaving. Before I get my chicken livers he returns with a woman and announces that she's buying him dinner. The cashier refuses to take her order. They ask if anyone will order for them and when we all decline they leave. I grab my gizzards and leave. That was dinner and a show for 8 bucks. read more

Real locals know. .. the worse the neighborhood & service, the better the Harold's. The problem with Harold's can be the inconsistent food, rude employees. This Harold's is above average, but nickel and dime you to death. Who charges for store brand white bread? Lol read more

This was always my go to Harolds Chicken when I started driving in my late teens as the location closest to where I grew up on 127th & Halsted was normally too slow and this one always got you in and out. I stopped by a couple times recently as I was in the area and they still get you out of there fast and they still have characters hanging out in the place waiting for food. As always I got my 5pc mild with salt & pepper! read more

Didn't want to cook Dinner so pick-up some Wings from Harold's. Good things when you can Smell the chicken being Cooked. The woman who took my order was very nice. The worst customer service I've ever had.....and that was just on the phone!! My co-workers and I tried to place an order over the phone. Asking for 4 breast and 4 thigh pieces. Now, they don't have a meal that includes those pieces, but we told them to just charge us accordingly per piece. They informed us that they could not do that, even though it states prices per piece on a website. I asked to speak to a manager, there was not one on duty at the time. We ended up going to Popeye's and getting exactly what we wanted. Never had a problem with any other Harold's locations, this might have just been un-properly trained employees. read more

It's definitely in the hood, but well worth the trip. My good friend from high school used to live in Chi-town and told me this is the original location. I ordered the 4 wings & fries with mild sauce. The wait was reasonable (it helped that there were only three other customers there at the time). The food was hot & fresh. To my delight a few extra wings had been thrown in. YAY for me! Deelish! I devoured every bite and will be back the next time I'm in Chicago. read more

Stopped by Harold's Chicken Shack No. 27 at 10259 S. Halsted Street today for the 1st time in 2 years, chicken was OK but I want to let others know they are charging for all the extras which is just awful considering the cost for a 6 piece wing dinner ( $7.50 + tax ) way too high in my opinion, they no longer give you bread or coleslaw with the meal ( you have to pay extra ) which I think sucks at those prices. Just another neighborhood business sticking it to their customers for no other reason than GREED!!! Will be a long time before I go back to this location as other locations I have been to don't treat their customers this way. SMH :( read more

The chicken was toooooooooo salty today couldn't eat it because the salt taste was to strong. You would think the cook would monitor how much salt they put on the chicken or the coating to make sure it isn't salty. I was very unpleased with the chicken and I don't think I will eat there again, waste of money threw it in the garbage. If you not from the ghetto, you don't know about this..Love that chicken from Harold's Cheap prices for a chicken,bread,fry combo. Yea in the "hood" we eat bread with everything & I mean everything! The gizzards are very good friend,pretty much everything in that place is bomb.Watch out for the workers seeming like they don't want to be at work, but who does. Call ahead & give it 20 more min then when they tell you it'll be ready or you will be waiting for sure. Make sure to dip the fry in the sauce provided for that extra ummph. I have been going to Harold's for years,now that I moved I can't find any other place like this. I'll be sure to pick up a combo whenever I'm back in town! read more

I always come here when I come home to CHICAGO. Harold's chicken is fresh, and seasoned and fried to perfection.

This place has seriously gone down. I recently ordered a Small Catfish Fillet dinner. Not only was the fish still raw with uncooked raw flour in some spots. it was extremely salty. When I called back to to complain, the cashier kept putting me on hold and refused to listen to me. Needless to say I will never patronize this location again. I will also SWALLOW A CAR first before I eat anything cooked put of this place. read more

The absolute worse service in the world! Rude cashier, she doesn't even greet you! I was standing at the window waiting for her and the cook to finish talking so I can place my order. Once she stopped talking, she started starring at me. So I asked "Oh, you're ready?" She blinked and rolled her eyes like "duh". I had to repeat my order about 3x bc she wasn't paying attention, so busy flirting with another female! She had an attitude the whole time. I wish there was someone higher I could speak with but bc these Harolds are independently owned, you're better off just not returning. The service will never get better! read more

This harolds charges for mildsauce, bread, coleslaw, etc..its absolutely ridiculous. Harolds is a staple in the many communities a dinner is supposed to come with all of the above mentioned items! They have average chicken I can say that when I visit customer service is absolutely the worst. The worker acts like she has a chip on her shoulder! Everything was on point! I think there is new management at 127th & Halsted / in the past it twas not a true Harold's in terms of service or taste. Food- done on time! Now they are providing bread & slaw with every order like it should be! Chicken was fried golden & juicy / with that Harold's Chicken seasoning that true Chicagoans know & love. So happy they righted the ship / I'll be getting my fried chicken fix every week from now on. read more

The food is great! The customer service is crap. The cooks and cashiers should be more polite to the customers. Remember, without customers you don't have a livelihood . IJS. FOR EXAMPLE: You don't say things like " I'm tired of cooking,answering phones,and taking orders, they can go somewhere else if they want to". This Harold's use to be my go to spot. I would pass 4-5 other Harold's just to come here. But I went last week and the old lady who took my order was extremely rude, I ordered 6 wings with mild sauce and I got 6 party wings. My fries were hard and I was charged for mild sauce and to get bread was .25 cents. This Harold's sucks big time. I wanted go back up there and throw the crap on the floor. Where do I begin? The customer in front of me was arguing with the cashier because they gave her order to a homeless guy. She was told she should have been listening. The customer went ballistic and threatened to call the police. The cashier had the nastiest attitude in the world. After ten minutes, they replaced her order. The cashier complained the entire time. When I got my chicken home, it was disgusting. It was so salty I couldn't eat it. Unprofessional employees coupled with exorbitant prices for over cooked salty chicken is an insult. I live right down the street in Beverly so I go here whenever I want chicken... The food is good most of the time, always hot that's a plus. The problem is with the lady that takes the orders she always mad, got something to say, or just plain rude. The cook side along with her most of the time. I usually call ahead and have my husband pick it up, they never have it ready and they have given my food away to other people that was behind me plenty of times... My family and I have been going here since I was a kid. Today, I ordered my usual half white and when I got home it had no sauce on it. I took it back up there and while trying to get the situation rectified they told me I was holding up the line. This is the problem with our people. Over the years, I have seen countless people walk out of this location and I always brushed it off because I never had any issues. Now that I see how they handled my issue they will never get another dime from me and I'll make sure my family members go to 87th or 127th and if they don't feel like traveling out of their way I'll get it for them just so they don't give this place anymore money. read more
