If I could give this place negative five stars I would. I went there yesterday on my lunch break . and ordered 2 lunch specials. One was a 2 piece perch and the other was 4 wings. They were BOTH HORRIBLE ! The perch wasn't even white on the inside it was gray indicating it was very old. The chicken was very dark on the inside and the outside was hard as a rock . My guess is that it was cooked a day (or two) before. I spent $19 dollars and change on that garbage. Needless to say I'm never going there again and I would encourage anyone who is thinking about going there not to. The food is awful. read more

I went to the store number 35. I got the wings and fries and a 2 piece dinner. The wings were ok and the fries with the mild sauce was cool. However I ordered a 2 piece dark and they gave me a breast and wing. I didn't check it right away and when I got back to my hotel and saw it was messed up I tried calling and no one answered. I heard about this Harold's from a food influencer. I was told that this Harold's is the only Harold's that still uses beef fat to cook their chicken. I went to Harold Chicken Shack on 127th Street around 4pm on June 24. The female working the front desk was extremely slow. The line grew longer as I waited. I was in the front of the line. She walked back and forth ignoring the line that was forming. After 25 minutes of waiting to place an order, I noticed everyone behind me in line walked out. She ignored a long line of customers and caused them to walk out. When she finally came to the register to take my order I asked her "can you tell me what's going on?" That's when she unloaded. She complained about having too many duties; she complained about being overworked, and she complained about customers. Since I'm a customer I asked her what is the owners name. I wanted to connect with the owner to see if I could get the workers some help. I tried to communicate with her but her attitude was terrible. I then walked out. Several minutes later I went back into the restaurant. She took the man's order that was now in line in front of me, but when it was my turn to place try again to place my order, she told me "I'm not taking your order." I informed her if you don't take my order no one in this line behind me will be able to place an order. The man cooking the chicken walked away from the stove to take my order and I told him "do not let her pack my food." This restaurant is has run into problems and if this female cashier does not want to show respect to customers she should not be working there. This location finished construction months ago. Sorry I have not been back to update that. They are usually very busy during lunch hours and right after school lets out (3pm)9 and again when workers are heading home between 5-6:45pm. CHICKEN/WINGS: My review of their wings remain Unchanged (Capon's/Roasters & Hens) to accommodate those wanting Jumbo ... Frying smaller (regular) wings in same fryer as Capons, Roasters & Hens results in their being very hard and often dry. Skin texture can be overly hard on gums, esp when full fryer baskets are cooked up at once and left hovering atop grease. CATFISH: I was buying their Catfish Fillets, but being a fisherman from MS knowing that fish; and to increase the price and deliver a substitute is the reason why I stopped buying it as I 'suspect' Swaii is being sold to the public because Catfish is more expensive than the cheaper Asian Swaii Catfish and it is 'illegal to be sell as Catfish in Illinois.' SAUCES: Many order with sauces to be put on/over everything (softening it). They don't know how to put it only ON fries (separate with fryer sheet is all that's needed, but... If you ask for sauce on the side, you get the 2-Tbs size containers half full, enough for a small section of 1 wing. WHY if they do it they drown your food, but cant give a decent size for others to use? FRENCH FRIES: Everyone appreciates a great fry which could help make up for the chicken, but they are often barely warm making Idaho's chalky. Get there too late behind any rush hour and those pre-cooked wings might be sold barely warm or dropped again. SERVICE: I totally agree with others who may have shared their experience here. IF you desire quality, consider how your order is prepared and DO EXPECT "almost all these first line employees" to lack business etiquette skills speaking to you unprofessionally, discourteously etc; NOT that you did anything. This Harold's Chicken is in my old neighborhood. While I was there, visiting my mother, I ordered a 7 wing dinner, fried hard, salt & pepper, hot sauce on it. It was perfect. Good job! The customer service was average. The service was very slow, and it was a long wait time. Ordered the food around 10 pm on a Saturday night. Overall the food was great, but the service is terribly slow. I called my food in and was told a 10 minute wait. I arrived with 10 mins and waited an additional 20 minutes for my food. I believe they all decided to take a break at the same time because once I went to the counter and paid for my food, I was told one moment please and then the cashier did not come back for 15 minutes. The food has been good lately. I think we all know that most Harold's can be hit or miss but 127th Halsted has been on a very steady roll. Food is hot and fresh. Love the remodel on the building it's been a while but the building looks great. They also keep the parking lot clean thats a must when your business is positioned in the neighborhood. Oh the food and service is exceptional as always I've never had any problems at this location. Food is always fresh and delicious.
