I always pick Harmon's when there is something special that I need and don't want to or don't have the time to make. I've always had confidence that they would provide at least close to what I could do in terms of quality. The last two things I purchased were absolutely not good. A couple of weekends ago k purchased the potato salad. It really was awful. No one ate it. Yesterday I picked up a custom birthday cake and it was nothing more than a bit of cake with mounds of icing. A couple people sampled it and the rest was thrown away. I love Harmons. First off their name always reminds me of Harmony ... but it's a grocery store. I love that they sell local stuff. I need to contact someone in there to find out who to talk to about being able to sell my candles here having them as one of our local stockists or "retailers". @belightcandleco on ig & only way to order is through Poshmark and Etsy right now. I used to love this sale when it was 5 for $20 - it actually felt like a bargain. Now it's 5 for $30, and the packages are so tiny it's hardly a deal at all. Once you do the math, the chicken still comes out to about $5.80/lb, the meat is close to $9/lb, and the fish is even higher. Feels more like clever marketing than a real savings. Prepare to be transported into a wonderland of culinary possibility when you set foot into this store. I have a hard time not dropping my bags and coat when I walk in and shouting "I'm home!" Harmon's has a little bit of everything, except they cut out the crap and just offer the better version. Bread? How about crusty, baked in-store rustic loaves. Oil? How about a selection of herb infused olive oils. Cheese? How about a soft, creamy wedge from somewhere in France? Everything is fabulous. Even the kitchenware. Even the chocolate bars. Even the greeting cards. This store is gorgeous and inviting, it's easy to go on a complete bender and detour from your original dinner plans for the entire week and come out with all the ingredients to open up a small bistro. You could vacation here for an entire afternoon. What I quickly realized is that the value at Harmon's is in their fresh departments around the edges of the store, the things their high quality employees make. Center store has some lovely things, but if you're just going on a grocery run for a bag of chips, or some cans of beans, it's a bit too spendy. Harmon's also offers their own catalogue full of recipes corresponding to seasonal foods, which is great to pick up before shopping if you don't really have many great ideas for an upcoming meal. Harmons has officially been downgraded to the very bottom of my list of favorite grocers. I've been shopping Harmons for at least 30 years. The last 15 years they have been the absolute best grocers in the valley. But, I have to say, the last two years, they have a really been disappointing on a daily basis. The Draper store, has been my go to store, for at least a decade. I've got to know a lot of the employees, and love my friends that work there. The meat department, however, is on a major decline. The quality of meat, and the customer service is horrible. I decided to go to the Fort Union store on 700 E. To hopefully find better service and quality. They seem to have the same problem in their meat department lately. They have decided to wrap their hamburger meat in commercial long term sealed plastic. Yuck! They have always been known for great fresh ground beef, not long term sealed crap. The bread I bought was stale AF. I had company over for hamburgers and it was embarrassing! Produce in all stores is great! That's what makes my departure so difficult. I don't mind paying extra for great quality food and service, and you will pay more at Harmons. But, I am not getting either. No return messages from corporate on my complaints. So, here is my Yelp review. I wrote Harmons headquarters several weeks ago regarding the crappy service I've been getting in the meat department in the Draper store. Never heard a peep from them. So been going to Harmons gosh over 40 years every week but after today's experience looking for a new place I went in as I have done for years to order a cake and the gal seemed very annoyed and bothered stating they have no tops which then I stated I was not preyed and just asked for a cake they could make which was my sons favorite. She started to show me cakes that were sitting there and I asked again if they could make a fresh cake She the in a upset tone asked me for the date needed to which I told her she went to a closet to look? and came back and said no she can't I asked her really thinking she was kidding but she again said no offering no explanation to which I replied WOW and left the store. Harmons is good for some things, and not so much for others. First, the good: Service is excellent, employees are very friendly. I especially like the guys who work at the cheese counter. Speaking of which, the cheese selection is great! It's not huge, but they have some really fab cheeses. And if you need help they are happy to make recommendations. They also have a great selection of specialty chocolate bars. I really like the chocolate stuffed figs (they come one to a package and it's silver). Their fig and almond cake (in cheese section) is also delicious. Their bakery has the best bread for a grocery store bakery, however I'm not a fan of most of their sweet baked goods (except their delightful, super rich brownies, and the macarons they carry from Fillings and Emulsions). They have a nice little home goods/gifty/kitchen area and the plants that they carry are nice. They sell a lot of locally produced items which fills my heart with joy. They tag them as such, and I've often tried products just based on them being locally made. Most of the time they are good! They also seem to do samples of the locally produced goods a lot. Now the bad stuff: Prices are generally higher than most any other grocery store, even for the same items. I am willing to pay a high price for their specialty items, but it bugs me when stuff like produce, or the EXACT same yogurt or chips or whatever is way more here. And their produce is seriously the worst. It is WAY more than most other grocery stores which would be one thing if it was delicious, but the quality seems to be lower than other places. Basically, Harmons is good if you want a specialty item, but just want to go to a grocery store. The weirdest thing about this place is that your total is not shown on your receipt. I've never seen that before! I went here on 05/28/13 to go buy some groceries while I was on a business trip so that I could make myself lunch during the week than try to find food that I like around town. The produce is great and actually not a bad deal. Dairy is a little expensive and they don't sell raw milk here - which is specifically why I came here. I figured that an upscale, organic store would have it. Roast chicken is about a $1 more than it is back at home in Las Vegas, but they have less chemicals, so I guess it works out. The store is big and some things are hard to find - I walked around probably 3-4 times trying to find everything I wanted. There's a huge kitchenware section right in the middle of the store. I stand by everything I said. When I professed my undying love. When I expressed my commitment. When I said it has everything you could ever want, and then tons of stuff you never knew you did but find you can no longer live without. All of it. I don't take back any of it. Now, all this time later, I only feel that way more strongly. I've explored every little corner of the place and while there are certainly things there that I probably won't buy, I'm glad they are there. Amongst my favorite of most favorite: Rubysnap cookies, Tillamook Ice Cream, an extensive olive oil and balsamic vinegar selection, tons of unique sodas, a tremendous cheese selection, Creminelli meats, artisan breads, quality produce.. the list of things I love goes on and on. And there is constantly new stuff being added, which I will undoubtedly fall in love with as well. Take away one of the sections, and you still have something great. I think Harmon's Grocery stores are the easiest places to review on Yelp, because they are just consistently great regardless of location. As such, I could just write...BOOM...5 stars! And be done, but let's add a little more substance for those interested. It is true, Harmon's can be more pricey than most grocery chains, but this is a local business and despite growing as a chain, they don't seem to forget that. You're paying not just for great produce, awesome fresh made bakery goods (especially the breads), a great selection of cheeses, a super well stocked Deli, and great produce - you're paying for service too. Harmon's always staffs their stores well, it's rare there is ever a wait even when busy, and the service is always great too. Harmon's really can be your one stop shop for all your grocery needs, and more. I also love how they label organic and non-GMO products making them super easy to identify, and they stock a lot. It took a while to be helped at the hot food counter. There was a line of people waiting and no workers came over to help until someone in line asked a manager when they would be able to serve the growing line. I have used Harmons catering a couple times for events. First time was good. More work than i would like with gathering all the items from different departments. Checking and double checking the list to ensure all my items were provided. Everyone loved the food. Second time i ordered was not as pleasant. I was missing a fruit platter, which i had to go back to get refunded. Also, i misunderstood the salsa and guacamole items. I think the online pictures were misleading, as i thought items came with chips. My bad, but really, $10 for salsa with no chips. read more

I recently learned that this chain has post offices. So much nicer and faster to go to the post offices in these stores than the normal ones. I came here yesterday to mail a bunch of gift boxes for an upcoming shower. The woman working there informed me that I would save a ton of money if I switched the boxes to the smaller ones, which was a big win. On my way out, I got a delicious orange specialty sparkling water. Just from a brief glance, the selection looks good, and I believe they have dieticians you can consult with (which is awesome). I am willing to pay $3 more for this chicken over a Costco one because the Moroccan seasoning is sooo good. The other day I stopped by about 8 pm and the counter in the fresh fruit was closed however a manager named Craig was walking by and even though he does not work in that section he took the time to cut fresh fruit for me even though he did not have to. There are many options here for food but it is very frustrating that even with bulk buying options the bakery refuses to let you use your own bag for bread without involving plastic. It would be great if management could change this policy. Bread can be handed over to a customer with a sticker to scan at the register. Whole Foods does this in plenty of states. The level of service here is almost non existent in our current world. I feel like it's my hometown grocery store. They know my name, they know what I like to buy. They know how thick I like my Bread sliced. It's like the CHEERS of Grocery Stores. Now about the food, it's fresh, made onsite and yes they have the best bread in the West. I love the bakery too but my wardrobe doesn't so I have to be careful. I bought a Carmel, Chocolate Cheesecake for my husband's birthday. He loved it. But lately the butcher shop has been missing the mark, I buy a lot of cubed lamb for curry and stews, lately it has been half bones. The last time I came here it was DUMPING; soo much rain and this sweet young women came up to me with an umbrella and walked me to my car. She was so sweet and so genuine. I wish I remembered her name but she had long black curly hair. Now today, I'm here for work needing something football related. I'm in the bakery on the hunt. Then, I ask Jordan if they have any thing football and she says "no, but I'm happy to draw something on anything you like." This Harmons has the most amazing humans working there, one example of this is a woman named Nadine. She is always vibrant, friendly, smiling, gracious, and helpful. We buy our gas & groceries from this location because in a world where the pandemic has unfortunately turned customer service sour & nearly non existent, these people here actually seem to really enjoy their jobs; it makes me feel like it must come from the the leadership at Harmons. Harmons by far is my second best place to shop for groceries. They have everything here. I love the bakery and selections of fresh baked breads. Which make for great toasted sandwiches and excellent for those pasta nights. They're the only place that has my favorite sugar wafers. Took me back to my childhood. They're prepped meals sometime come in handy when you're to busy to cook or make lunch for the next day. It's just good to go into one place and find everything and much more. I cannot say enough good things about Harmon's. Most people have this misconception that their prices are high, but having shopped at Not-So-Fresh Market, Dan's, The Evil Empire (Walmart), and Smith's, I can honestly say that Harmon's is comparable in price and WAY better in quality and customer service. Their employees are well-educated about their products, too. I can ask the butcher or the cheese monger a question and I will receive a real answer from someone who really knows their stuff. Here are a few bullet points, minus bullets: They have the best produce of any grocery store, hands down. I know when I buy apples, they will be crisp, oranges will be juicy, and strawberries will be sweet and mold-free. USDA Prime beef. Nuff said. Their meat department ROCKS! They even make their own sausage and brats. Oh. And their spoon roasts are so delicious and easy to prepare- just stick them in the oven for a few hours and dinner will be a hit that night. They have the best cheese selection I've found in a regular grocery store. They even sent employees to Italy to learn about cheeses. How effing cool is that? If you tell them what you want to pair cheese with, they will not only give you suggestions, they'll give you a sample! Who doesn't like free samples? Harmon's has a really great "hippie food" section, filled with all the organic goodness you could want. When I'm looking for something organic, I often check there before Whole Foods. My favorite part about Harmon's? They're LOCAL, not a huge corporate fat cat. They know their customers and they understand that just because something isn't a bestseller doesn't mean that there isn't a demand for it. Hmm... Locally-owned and operated, this chain of supermarkets does not disappoint. When I go in there, I imagine that the descendants of the pioneers are the ones baking the cookies from scratch, butchering the aged beef, slinging the various kinds of cheese from the cheese bar, and providing friendly fast service at the check-out stand. As my mom says, they know how to cook and bake (as in Betty Crocker style) and it's evident in their offerings, whether you're in there just to buy ingredients or sample many of their freshly-prepared foods. Even their vitamin section is good for its size -- I found some dandelion root tea, which the nearby Whole Foods didn't have. If you happen to be in Salt Lake City skiing, "This is the place" to get some good groceries and prepared grub. P.S. Be on the lookout for the pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, which they make from scratch. They gladly give you a whole one to sample.
