But even after cleaning it out, the smell wasn't going away. Then the vent started giving off either smoke or steam, and in a panic I immediately turned off the dryer. Thank God I didn't start a dryer fire. The second I shut it off and made sure everything was ok, I opened Yelp and searched for a dryer vent cleaner. Chris's Insulation came up, he had great ratings, he was super close by, so after calling a different service and going to voicemail, I called Chris. Chris picked up after the second ring. When I told him that I needed someone to clean our dryer vent and what had happened, he said he could come out either between 5:00 and 6:00 pm that evening or the next day. It was already mid-afternoon when I called, so I was surprised to hear him say he could still come out same-day, but I decided to have him do that since I was free and also still a little shaky following what happened with the vent either smoking or steaming. Chris showed up during the window he quoted and wasted no time getting to work. He started the second he arrived and was done within the hour. His pricing was incredibly reasonable and fair and so far, in the couple of weeks since he was here, we've had no issues with the dryer. When I called, I was treated very nicely on the phone and was able to schedule an appointment within 48 hours. Diagostic appointments are $89 during the week and $149 on Saturday. Our technician, Wes, was very professional, on time and easy to talk to. He came out and checked the unit (we needed a different fuse) and turned the unit on and got it running. I was very happy with the service from the ladies in the office to Wes our technician. Just a heads up, they have a monthly maintenance plan ($12.95 a month) that they will try and sell you. It includes an annual check of your A/C unit and of your heater. Any additional work or service calls are then 20% off. It all started after my dad contracted it in his nursing home and unknowingly passed it to us. Tragically, he passed away last Christmas Eve, and we thought the problem was resolved. I'm an RN and understand how serious scabies can be once it's in your home, but my mom and brother hadn't told me they were still itching. So basically, scabies had been silently breeding and festering in our home for months.
