Harlan Ruby is a super unique party store. They offer unique party supplies. You will find boutique style party accessories here: not what you would buy at your chain stores. I love supporting local businesses. As for the balloons from VroomVroom, these are adorable. They are a splurge. I debated making my own but decided I didn't want the stress and once I looked at the cost of buying supplies I would need and the time I would spend, I decided to just go ahead and place the order since it would be the "wow" factor when people walked into my home for my party on May 1. To have VroomVroom install, your order must be $600 at minimum. I believe I spent around $380 so I didn't go for the install and just picked up my garland - which the owner did carry out to my car for me. It was beautiful and full. It was SO easy to hang. I attached the garland on 2 places on my banister in my foyer. Photos attached. May was definitely a busy time for them and they are booming in business. I went in person to pick out my balloon colors and place my order face to face. I also placed my order weeks in advance because I know the spring is so busy for party vendors. I'm so happy I went for it and ordered these. And the garland lasted for 3 weeks! I then took it down and let a friend use it for a party she hosted. The balloons had gone down some but were still adorable. Now just remember- these balloons were inside, in a climate controlled environment. I'm sure if outside and in extreme temps, they wouldn't last long. But what Balloon would? I will order again for a special occasion and love the backdrop and photo opportunities! read more

This place is your one stop shop for all things party, hosting, celebrating, remembering. They have a wonderful collection of party items: table settings, napkins, runners, banners, hats/crowns in all kinds of themes: cosmic, beach, baby, rainbow- just to name a few. Need a unique gift you didn't know existed? They have those too. What about cool wrapping paper? Check. Lapel pins? Yep. Unique cards? Yep. Cake toppers? Yes. Cake candles? Oh just wait! Balloons? Yes! Lots of balloons. I've only ordered one balloon bouquet from them but I can't wait to order more. The staff (I've mostly interacted with the mother/daughter duet) is amazing and very helpful. I'm genuinely shocked at the lack of value. I called for 3 balloon letters, literally looking for some I could just blow up myself. I would have gone to a Party City and been 1000x happier if there was one nearby. She told me $49 PER LETTER for the large balloons. I opted for the smaller ones (which she said were 16" on the phone). $27 for literally three letters that are probably about 9" big. I'm shocked. That is seriously the most overpriced thing I may have ever paid for. And I just moved here from New York... so I am not often shocked by prices. What a rip off. I would return if I could; but the sale HAD to be done over the phone since you still can't step foot in their store, and was final. Honestly grossed out by this lol I can't believe what I just got for almost $30. Save your time and money and go to the dollar store. Super unfortunate since the service was decent. read more

I LOVE this store! I think it's almost impossible to walk into this store and not smile. It's color. It's sparkle. It's sparkle. It's just pure happiness. Harlan Ruby is located in the Eastside Station on Woodland. Don't be tricked by the parking meter in the parking lot like me. I thought you had to pay to park in front of the store, so I went up a few blocks and found free park. Feeling so frugal and proud of myself, I waltzed up to the building to see a sign that said don't pay for parking, parking is free until 9:30 pm. Good to know for next time! The store is on the left when you first walk in the door. It's just instant fun. Harlan Ruby is a party/gift shop so just imagine all of the cutest and most fun things in one store. A list of things I saw: cards, balloons, mugs, pins, jewelry, napkins, make your own hula-hoops, notebooks, pencils, pens, candles, cups, plates, bags, totes, and so much more! This is the perfect place if you're planning a party, looking for a fun gift, or just want something fun for yourself. Everything is fun. Have I mentioned that this store is fun? I went there for some cards for a few friends. The selection is awesome and unique. One card I got says "Pugs and Kisses" and has a bunch of cute little pug faces. What a dream! They also have postcards if you want to go that route. If you're into enamel jewelry, Harlan Ruby has a really cute collection. I wanted it all. If you're into hula-hooping, the design your own hula-hoop station seemed like a blast. Harlan Ruby is also host to Vroom Vroom Balloon. If you haven't seen their work, do yourself a favor and check them out on IG or on their website. They make customized balloon displays and bouquets (I'm not sure if that is the right grouping wordage for balloons). They can write anything you want on a balloon in beautiful calligraphy. They also have cool shapes and designs like zebras and numbers. I bet they can do anything you imagine. Harlan Ruby also has a Posey Bar that lets you send a bouquet of flowers with a balloon. The perfect surprise for someone you love (or like, or have to pretend to like). It's probably dangerous that I discovered this store because now I'm going to want to go every week. I could spend hours in here just checking everything out. It's a smaller store but it has so much stuff! Do yourself a favor and check it out! read more

I'm so disappointed in the balloon garland I ordered from here. I spent $180 on 50 balloons that are poorly put together and look not full. From the beginning of this transaction I felt like they didn't prioritize my order because it wasn't a big installation. If you have a small party, I would just make it yourself. I am going to have to Add my own balloons to this to make it usable. I'm blown away by the unprofessionalism, and I will not be ordering a garland from here again. I called 3 times and was ignored until I called and let them know they hadn't returned my call. If I could give you all zero stars, I would. You don't deserve even one star. The was the absolute worst experience I've ever had. I went to this shop on Thursday to purchase balloons for my 30TH birthday photoshoot which I was so excited to use their services because they claim to be professionals. I placed the order on Thursday, August 19th for pickup on Saturday, August 21st. The balloons were supposed to read "GROWN AF" for my 30th birthday. I spent $350 on balloons and by the time I got to the photoshoot (which was 20 minutes away from the pickup location) three of the seven balloons were completely deflated (as seen in the picture). I was unable to use the balloons. Because I was paying for my photographer's time, I was unable to call right then and place a complaint. I called when I got home to let the owner know what happened and instead of issuing an apology and trying to fix it (I didn't even ask for a refund, I asked for some type of resolution), the manager or "balloon specialist" decided to place blame and insist that unfortunately there was nothing she could do. As a person who owns her own service-based business, I can assure you that there's always something that can be done, whether it's another order of balloons or a gift card, something could have been done. I had no problem finding a resolution that would have worked for both parties but instead the owner would rather place blame and not try to find a resolution that would have worked for the both of us. She even told me that some of the balloons (the R in particular), were inflated two days in advance before I picked them up (which is not abnormal, but could be the reasoning for why that particular letter deflated so quickly.) For $350, I could've had better service at Party City. I will never return to this establishment and you all should learn proper customer service and how to find amicable solutions for your paying customers. Especially during a pandemic where there are cheaper (and better) options. This was a terrible customer experience and you all are operating under piss poor management who could use a class or two on how to operate a business with integrity. If you're looking for party favors, you're better off going to Party City. It's cheaper with better customer service. read more

I went into Harlan and Ruby on a Saturday to purchase two balloons for a party. It's just down the street from our home and thought it would be a great way to shop local. I was told that all balloon orders had to be made a week in advance, which to me just said that the operation is run poorly. Likely won't be returning. I didn't spend a ton of time looking around at the gift shop, but everything in there looked lovely. One additional star for that. read more

I've never written a Yelp review before but had such an unpleasant experience that I had to share! I went into the shop to grab a balloon for my colleagues birthday before heading to work. They rudely let me know that nothing would be ready for another hour except for a few options that were all $20+ for a single balloon. I asked if they had any suggestions for other places that might have a simple balloon I could get, like at Kroger or a grocery store - She looked down on me and said "I don't shop at Kroger, I only shop at Whole Foods" lol. The store itself is gorgeous. It's filled with hundreds of fun goodies, décor, party accessories and more. I would totally go there for a cute coworker gift or small treat, however I placed a same day, custom order that was completed neglected and actually became more of a burden than a cute gift. I ordered a bouquet of 5 balloons, one custom that said 'Happy Birthday Caroline' at 10:30 AM for pick up at 1:30 PM. They assured me it would be ready and were really polite, excited and kind when I ordered over the phone. When I arrived, I was greeted by a confused employee who didn't look very eager to help me. She actually continued fulfilling a different order while 'trying' to help figure out where mine was. After calling another employee, we found out my order wasn't done yet because there was a separate order "emergency" that had to be done before mine. I get that, but it's also frustrating to hear that another order took precedent over yours, without warning. I would have been more understanding if the women were trying to accommodate me, but they didn't have any ideas about how to help me and that I needed to come back in one hour to pick it up. When I suggested delivery she said that traffic wouldn't allow them to do that. Isn't that what you sign up for when you offer delivery? I ended up having them picked up 30 minutes later and the consolation for the $54, 5-balloon bouquet was an 'upgrade' from a flat tassel, to a metallic silver one. Thank you? I really was excited about Vroom Vroom because I've seen so many amazing and creative bouquets. Maybe I had bad luck, but I can't say I will spend this kind of money on poor service again. read more

Horrible customer service - don't be suckered by the glitter into spending money there. Balloon deflated by the time it got to the car - they refused to provide assistance beyond the door and maintained that the balloons are provided with no returns once you pass the door. read more

We had a farm party for our 4 year old and I was so pleased by the adorable farm animal balloons and coordinating bouquets of solid balloons and tassels we received. I was pleasantly surprised at the reasonable price for the quantity and quality we received. Love that the owners are clearly so committed to this wonderful small business!
