Since this is located in the local shopping area (Ealing Broadway) I've come here a few times for lunch with friends. Appetizers we enjoyed: Tori Goyza, Chicken Yakitori and Panko Honey King Prawns Tempura - Ebi (Shrimp) and Tempura Moriawase (Shrimp and Vegetables) Sushi - Dragon Roll and Spicy Tuna Maki They have Ramen, Noodle and Rice dishes but I've not tried those. The food good, great value for money, and the staff are helpful & polite.

    Chicken katsu curry

I came here on the advice of my husband's friend, and by the end of it, I kinda wanted to punch him in the face for insisting I get the chicken katsu curry. He swore it was the best thing on this earth. It's basically a big-ass bowl of rice with chicken katsu which is drenched in a pint of curry. *facepalm* WHYY did I listen? On to better news... the sushi actually isn't bad. And it's not terribly expensive either. We had the salmon sake maki and a load of other things and I would definitely advise you to stick to the authentic, classic Japanese dishes. Fusion (like mixing Japanese with curry) tends to go terribly wrong. Overall, it wasn't bad. I would come back but only for the classics. Oh and BEER. Always beer.

My boyfriend took me to this restaurant when I arrived from LA late at night. Salmon sashimi was excellent and I liked their roasted duck & rice. The staff were friendly and polite. I would love to go back again when I go to see him again :)

    Unagi!

Oooh back when I was a student I LOVED the Hare & Tortoise, it was reasonably priced, HUGE portions of Chinese-y Japanese food. It was also one of the few places to serve (not particularly authentic) ramen 10 years ago, before the current ramen craze... Since then, the standard of Japanese food in London has improved, but this chain still isn't bad in comparison. They have quite a large menu with noodles (both in soup and stir-fried), sushi, donburi-type rice dishes, curries as well as lots of izakaya dishes. Last time I visited I tried the unagi. I shouldn't really order unagi in England as it normally disappoints me... This unagi looked pretty decent and the taste was good (they've got the unagi sauce down perfectly) but the texture made me a little sad. My favourite places in Japan first steam the unagi, then grill it, so it is all smooshy-melt-in-your-mouth in the middle, with slightly crispy edges. Here it was just squishy. It seemed like they microwave it... *sigh* I should probably give them 3.5 stars (as the staff can be quite rude/rubbish) but I'll round it up to four stars just because they are such good value...and because they have unagi on the menu in the first place!! If you want some authentic Japanese grub, then this isn't the best place to visit. BUT if you'd like quick, tasty, reasonably priced food, then it is a good choice.

Great place for a quick and casual asian fusion bite. Service is efficient, place is clean, food is better than most in this category. The laksa is definitely amazing and pretty authentic, I also like the tonkotsu ramen which is great. Cheap and cheerful.

I LOOOOOOVE ATARIYA!!!…read more Seriously! This is the best shop for Japanese food in London (I am shocked that I did not review it yet!!) It is tiny...so expect to queue around the whole shop for sashimi/ fish if you come here at the weekend! The sashimi is amaaaazing! The shop is busy, with a high turnover, so the fish never has a chance to rot or become smelly. This means when you enter the shop, you'll be greeted with a lovely smell of rice vinegar. It never smells fishy, despite all the fish. They cut the sashimi for you freshly, so you can ask for it to be cut sushi-style or sashimi-style. I like Sashimi-style better as you get larger chunks of fish. I recommend the following if you'd like to try their sashimi: - Hottate (Onmygoodness the raw scallops here are soooo good!) - Amaebi (sweet little shrimps) - Saba (mackerel) - Tamago (I really like their dashimaki, eggrolls - they'll slice as much as you like for sushi) - Salmon - Hamachi - yellow tail tastes lovely, and has a slightly 'bite-y-er' texture than salmon - The toro (tuna) is good (melts in your mouth) but to be honest, I love the other sashimi more. Other mouth-watering food available: * Frozen gyoza - we always have some in our freezer for tastey-fast-food emergencies * Frozen edamame - much cheaper than eating out! * Kabocha - a bit like butter nut squash...only better! * Croquettes - I love the curry-flavour ones :) * Huuuuge bags of rice (if you ask nicely, they'll open a bag, and just sell you part of it) * Frozen unagi and the sauce to serve it with * Cup ramen/udon and all the noodles to cook yourself! * Sooo many happy Japanese sweets * Essential speedy food like furikake (the yummy food to shake over rice to make an instant meal) or packets of ready-to-go miso soup. There is lots more...you'll have to head West to explore Atariya yourself!! The staff are all really nice, so if you need help in choosing, just ask for their advice. The Japanese bloke with a moustache is an absolute legend!! *Damn writing this review has made me hungry!!*
