Al had previously done some minor electrical work for me and completed renovations for my neighbors, so I already knew he was reliable. When I spoke to him about my basement, he offered thoughtful suggestions that completely reshaped my vision. The basement was originally finished by the previous owner back in the 70s--dark paneling, Berber carpet, stucco ceiling, and a stairway covered in sand paint. It's my family/TV room and updating it has been on my wish list since buying the house, but I never knew where to start. Al made the entire process easy and inspiring. Now, the space looks absolutely beautiful. It has fresh vinyl flooring, crisp white wainscoting, soft grey walls, a clean white ceiling, and new grey carpet on the stairs. Even the sand‑painted stairway was transformed with wainscoting and matching grey walls. Al also enclosed the furnace and water heater in a ventilated room making access so much easier. My Christmas village houses, which used to sit on open shelves, are now neatly stored in a long-enclosed closet at the back of the basement. The result is stunning--my basement looks so good that it makes the rest of the house feel outdated. When I'm ready to upgrade the living room and dining room, I'll definitely be calling Al at Ramada Construction again. Highly recommend!

He's not local but Newark is not very difficult. If he hops on Route 24 West to Rt. 287 North, well, it is easy. I'm thrilled -- Luis works and I'll oversee the work, and drag my dad here to make sure they are doing right by us. He just turned 78, but recalls all this kind of work and can get here easily. I can FaceTime him, too. Joe was cheerful and pleasant on the phone, sounds like an excited man and happy to potentially get more work, unlike the two yahoos we tried calling. I have done all the work in my house over the last 25 years, but decided the effort and skill to remodel a kitchen was the job of a pro. Turning everything over to someone else was not an easy decision. However, it worked out far better than we had ever envisioned. After getting five quotes, and speaking with five contractors, we chose Steve Hopps and "Old School." Steve showed genuine interest in making our kitchen beautiful and unique. While not the least or most expensive, Steve seemed to offer something none of the other contractors offered: professional craftsmanship and a concern to get it exactly as we dreamed it would be. Our choice proved to be perfect. In every step of the way, Steve was on target. When unforeseen issues turned up, Steve suggested solutions that were right on target. He worked closely with out cabinet company, the electrician, plumber, and flooring people. He also had a hand in all of these aspects to keep the work flowing smoothly. He worked quickly and efficiently. He explained what he was doing, and his workmanship is not just professional, but the work of a true craftsman. When tiling the backsplash, he even rotated tiles placing some in the best place for a better look and flow. Only an artist, a person with a deep love of perfection would do this. Steve Hopps did all of this for us. I would highly recommend Old World Remodeling to any one. Quality, affordability, craftsmanship, personability, and results are all 10s.
