This is a lovely cozy spot in downtown Troy. The quality of the food is outstanding. We ordered one…read moreof the specials for Valentines, steak and lobster tail. My steak was excellent quality but a bit overcooked and the lobster tail was delicious and overcooked as well. Thankfully the quality was so good it overshadowed the fact that the proteins were overcooked. I would recommend this restaurant and give it an 8 out of 10 for atmosphere alone. The service was good.

I ordered the filet (medium) and asked for au poivre, which even cost extra on the menu. When it arrived, there was no pepper at all on the steak -- just a plain cream sauce. After I asked about it, the bartender mentioned it wasn't a traditional au poivre and came back with some coarse black pepper after asking to sprinkled on top. For clarity, au poivre literally means "with pepper" -- the classic French preparation features a steak crusted in cracked peppercorns, seared, and finished with a brown Cognac-and-peppercorn reduction made from the pan drippings. Nowhere should a simple Alfredo-style cream sauce be called "au poivre." For the upcharge, I was expecting authenticity and depth of flavor, not a misrepresentation. The service was friendly and the atmosphere pleasant, but my first visit also had issues -- my wife actually found a piece of plastic from a salad bag in her salad. Mistakes happen, but after two visits, it's hard to overlook the lack of attention to detail.
