We've always gotten pretty good service here and they tend to give extra jelly! It reminds me a lot of my childhood.

My food partner had a great experience, loved the food and the service. For me - I was very excited to see the delicious looking burger (1/2 pounder). Wow! But, here was the thing: I can't do onions and specifically stated no onions, and the server affirmed the order. The sad occurrence was the burger was loaded with extra juicy onions. I called the server back, she was apologetic and took the order back. As she entered the kitchen, I saw her grab gloves and it was at the time, I knew that she was going to mess up (pick the onions off and return it to me). She brought it back - same burger, soaked bun in onion juice (along with all the other delicious stuff) and told me "here ya go". I told her to just take it back and remove it from the check. After a few minutes and after the other diner was done with their meal, the server came back and asked if I wanted a new on cooked without onions (which should have been done in the first place). I opted out. It looked sooooo good, needless to say - I was 100% disappointed at the delivery of the missed cook burger, but more so (if possible) at "picking off" the onions and trying to reserve it. Shame on them. I would definitely go back, because I wanted to experience a great burger (just without onions).

We walked in and asked to sit outside. I feel like this really upset the hostess because I heard a sigh and saw an eye roll. She said the table had to be cleaned. That's fine, we were happy to wait for what we anticipated would be a delicious meal. We waited 30 minutes for someone to wipe the table. Finally, another customer told the hostess that there were two clean tables and they were seated. We were then seated and were thankful the other couple noticed the availability. It's beautiful on the river! The bartender was also the server and she seemed frazzled and abrupt. We ordered quickly and the food didn't take too long to arrive, but it wasn't terribly hot. We had to ask for hot sauce twice. She forgot one of our sides and when we told her she loudly told a coworker that she had to go inside for grits. She seemed frustrated. The iced tea tasted like some kind of slightly flavored water. There was nothing extraordinary about the food. I've never seen grease under fried clams, but the grease was pooling under the entree. The greens tasted like they were from a can with no seasoning at all; hence the need for the hot sauce! The okra and tomatoes were also very bland, not unlike hospital food. We did like the coleslaw and the hush puppies. We told our friends that Corky Bell's was as awesome as they described (Lord forgive the lie), but we won't be back.

The exterior is clean and simple. When you walk in, it's clean, simple, and a bit Chip and Joanna-esque, which I love. I was quickly greeted and told I could sit anywhere. I was given a menu and their drink menu. After being off coffee for a week, I saw that they make their own coffee syrups, so I got an iced decaf almond milk latte with their salted caramel syrup. While I waited, I looked over the menu. I really wanted to try the french toast or the waffle, but opted for the bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant and cup of their cheese grits. The latte came out quickly and tasted exquisite. Sometimes you get decaf and it tastes watery, but not this latte. My friend ordered a salad with grilled chicken on top. Everythign came out quickly. The first thing I noticed were the cheese grits. They were delicious. Rich, creamy, and flavorful. Get them. The bacon egg and cheese on a croissant was also really good. They sell coffee at their shop to bring home.

It was just after noon on a Friday when we arrived and there was a 10-minute wait for a table. Upon being seated, we were presented the menu. We both considered ordering the Reuben Sandwich but I opted instead for the Club Sandwich on Ciabatta (as recommended by our server) and a side of Seafood Chowder. We both just ordered water with a slice of lemon to drink. Our server eventually came back with my wife's Reuben sandwich served with a bag of chips and she also had my cup of chowder, commenting how the club sandwich will be served shortly. My wife liked her Reuben, with tender meat and sharp sauerkraut. She also liked how the rye bread held up to the strong flavors. My chowder was equally good but it wasn't served with crackers. We waited a while for our server to return so I could ask for some crackers but she went ghost on us. Finally, more than 10 minutes after my wife was served her sandwich, a gentleman, who we can only assume was the manager, came over to ask if I've been served my club sandwich. Of course I pointed to a clean table to indicate no sighting of my sandwich and I also asked for some crackers. A few minutes later, the same man came back with some crackers and apologized for a mix up in the back. That's when I told them to forget the club sandwich so we can be on our way. To the manager's credit, he had the club sandwich boxed up and gave it to me free of charge. He was very apologetic. I was still a bit miffed and thought about leaving the sandwich there but my wife convinced me otherwise. Needless to say, service wasn't at the forefront during that dining experience. Despite the service mix up, however, I was still inclined to give this place 4 stars for the taste and quality of the food. The staff can have some inconsistencies and I tend to believe that's not the norm for this establishment which has earned high marks on Yelp.

They asked me if I would like to be seated or if I wanted to go order. I've said this many times I absolutely love French toast, and I always judge it based upon whether or not it needs syrup. I ordered the French toast with one egg and the smoked sausage. The egg was your standard egg nothing special. The smoked sausage link was a sausage that I have never tasted it before, but it was good very flavorful and was not fatty at all. And now the king of the show or queen depending on who you're talking to... the French toast. I will say that the French toast was good however to me it tasted more like when you get a slice of bread at home, put butter on it with cinnamon and sugar and you put it in the oven on broil and let it toast a bit. It WAS delicious. The bread was delicious, but it did not taste like your typical French toast to me however, I would go back and order it again. They also had some really huge cinnamon rolls in there. I did not get one of those, but they were quite literally about the size of a person's plate. All in all I definitely would visit the diner again I could go without the egg, but the French toast and sausage definitely would have.

When I want fried shrimp today, Musselwhites is my goto place. Just as Osteens, the shrimp are two biters fried with a similar breading. As with Osteens, the dinners come with two sides and there is a large selections of fresh country sides to choose from. The hushpuppies are just as good as Osteens. They also serve a Menorcan seafood chowder here just as good or even better than the Osteens version and there is a fresh bottle of Dattle Sauce on the table to spice this red chowder up another notch or two if you are so inclined. We live in Green Cove, and it is about a 30 min drive to Musselwhites (one traffic light until you get to Palatka). If you love fresh Florida Fried shrimp, but don't want to deal with the hassles of Osteens, then Musselwhites just may fill the bill. I know it does for my family.

Located just on the east side of the bridge, it's an easy place to grab dinner without going too far off track. The menu offers plenty of fresh seafood options along with other choices, all at very reasonable prices. Our server, Gwen, was friendly and efficient--she had our drinks out right away and took our order promptly. I went with the catfish dinner, which came with two sides. The catfish was well-prepared, and the green beans and coleslaw made for a nice, classic combination, along with a couple of hush puppies. My wife had the blackened shrimp, which looked just as good. One of the best parts - The price. Even after tip, our total was around $25 per person, and they offer a discount for cash payments. On the night we visited, everyone was sitting inside, though it looks like they have an outdoor patio area as well as a separate bar inside. The crowd leaned a bit older--maybe just because it was a Monday night around 5:30--but the place was full, which is always a good sign. Given that Musselwhite's has been around for over 20 years, it's clear they're doing something right. I'm giving it a five-star review--not because it's a high-end, fine-dining experience, but because they absolutely deliver on value, quality, and service. If you're in the area and craving fresh seafood at a great price, it's definitely worth a stop.
