For the record, Hardee's has some great fried chicken, provided it is fresh (as advertised) and prepared correctly according to their recipe. I live about 10 minutes away from the Castle Hayne location. I called ahead and informed the staff member that I was coming to purchase an 8-piece chicken meal. He assured me, "I got you, man," so I proceeded to the restaurant. I made this call based on previous experiences. Upon arrival, I noticed chicken in the warmer, and from the counter, it was evident that it was not fresh, despite the sign above it claiming otherwise. However, I have been there before, and often they retrieve fresh chicken from the kitchen, so I remained optimistic. I ordered the 8-piece chicken meal and two Hot Ham and Cheese sandwiches. I observed the staff member checking the chicken in the warmer, conversing with someone in the kitchen, and then returning to the warmer multiple times. This sequence of events felt like "foreshadowing" in literature. She then assisted a drive-thru customer before placing 8 pieces of chicken from the warmer into a box and bagging it. A few minutes later, she informed me that we were waiting on the sandwiches and handed me the chicken (I had already paid). At this point, a lady, who appeared to be the manager, emerged from the back, handling cash from the registers. I inspected the chicken, broke open a piece, and found it to be extremely dry and clearly hours old. I asked the lady if she was the manager, and she confirmed. I explained that I had called in advance to ensure I received fresh chicken, but this was far from fresh. She claimed it was only 15 minutes old. I showed her the piece, and from her position, she could see it was obviously very old. She then began chastising her staff, stating that they should never serve fresh chicken first and that the old chicken should have been disposed of. I tried to explain that, as a manager myself, I believed this was her responsibility, not her staff's. She did not address me further. A gentleman from the back, who I believe was the person I spoke to on the phone, approached as I was explaining that the chicken was inedible. The manager, Marilyn Johnson, continued to chastise her staff and ignored the situation at the counter. The gentleman seemed genuinely surprised at the state of the chicken and asked the manager if he should issue a refund. She did not respond. He asked if I had paid by card, and sensing his uncertainty, I told him not to worry about it. I mentioned that I was not upset with him but disappointed because I had anticipated enjoying fresh, hot Hardee's chicken. He was empathetic and engaging, which I appreciated. My boyfriend and I were in Castle Hayne and very hungry. On his recommendation we went through the drive-through at Hardee's and got their 10 piece chicken tender meal and fries. I was honestly impressed with how yummy the chicken tenders were. I had low expectations. I won't necessarily go to Hardee's on the regular, but now I know it's a decent option if needed. Not my favorite fast food place but when there are few choices around you can't be too picky. Parking lot usually has some trash in it and you have to repeat your order numerous times back in the drive thru. My orders have always been correct though when received. I typically get the chicken nuggets but they are always lack luster. Heavily breaded with little meat and typically chewy. Fries have been hot 2 out of the 4 times I've gone. Thick burger I got wasn't very thick..at least not the toppings. The speciality burger just wasn't very special. Drops of sauce and not much flavor. Hwy 55 up the street is better for a burger if you have the time to sit down. read more

The slim older white woman at drive thru gave me a price of 3.63 for my biscuit so I gave her 4.03 expecting.40 back....she says No, it's 4.63, so I gave her another dollar. Then after 3 minutes and 15 seconds she tells me the people behind me need their biscuits and theirs was ready so would I pull up....I said No ma'am, I'm working and it's only a ham biscuit so I'll wait here. She told me to move up so I said I wanted my 4.63 back.....the manager came and gave me 3.63 to which I said she charged me another dollar.....she said she did not.....I called her out for her lie and called Boddie-Noelle Enterprise and told them as well. What a trick!! Bet she put that dollar in her pocket. Nasty old woman! I'm never going back to this store which is only 3 blocks from my house!! read more

This Hardee's normally offers a typical fast food experience, but at times the local servers can be very frustrating. You won't always get your food exactly as ordered, and they can have problems making change correctly. read more

The food was OK, the waitress was very nice too. Unfortunately the manager saw fit to have a channel on the TV known to be offensive & hateful and played it loudly so there was no escape from it. Perhaps corporate can fix this unfortunate situation. read more

I was trying to feed my family lunch before my husband had to leave for work. I ordered a Medium Combo and a Chicken tender meal with 2 sides. My entire order was over $24.00. I signed the receipt for the cashier and she asked me to pull forward while tenders cooked. When she finally strolled out to my car 10 minutes later I had to pull out of the parking lot because I was pressed for time and had a sleeping baby in the car. Not a big deal; BUT when I got home I discovered that the combo food was NOT given to me. One of my meal sides (fries) was half EMPTY and the few fries I did have were ICE cold. On top of that, the cashier did not give me a copy of the receipt---something she should have done before she even asked me to drive forward. I called the store and talked to the manager when I discovered the extent of the horrible service the restaurant provided. She took my name and said she would replace my order at any time. As a manager at a hotel I know very well what good customer service is- to exceed expectations, to delight, and to solve problems. My problem was not solved. I was extremely inconvenienced, and will not return to this Hardee's to have my order replaced. read more

Typically I wouldn't leave a review for a fast food chain but I feel this place does need to be recognized. It is a Hardee's and the food is the same as you would come to expect it to be, but what sets this place apart from the rest is the service, it's great. Even in the drive through, knowing and consistently hearing that someone appreciates your business helps bring people back. read more

A couple of things to mention. Hardees as a chain is good but there knowledge of discounts is hit and miss. I asked if this particular Hardees participated in AARP discounts. The young lady at the counter said she didn't know and never heard about it so she gives me my total. I told her the Leland Hardees honors and gives a $2.00 AARP discount but for breakfast combos only which is nice. However, the Castle Hayne Hardees really hadn't a clue. The young lady who took my order didn't even want to ask the manager about it so I had to ask for the manager. The manager never did it before but was nice enough to give me a $1.00 discount. I finished placing my order paid and waited. Then the young lady gave me my order in a bag and said "thank you and have a nice day", I asked about my coffee and she handed me a drink cup, I said "it comes with coffee", she said "it doesn't come with it", I said "yes it does, it say on the sign behind you" and I quote "all combos come with potato rounds and a small coffee". I had to have her turn around and look at the sign but because that blurb was under the Specials she said "I think that only comes with the Steak and Egg Combo". Really, she said that. So, then she back peddled (because she hadn't a clue) she said they put the coffee up so she gave me a complimentary drink. How does one give a complimentary drink with order that comes with a drink? I said fine, took my drink cup got a Lemonade and left. Got back to my office sat at my desk opened my now cold meal and it was not the Sausage & Egg Biscuit I ordered but regular Sausage Biscuit. I jumped back in the car headed back to Hardees where another young lady whom has taken my order before assisted me. She kind of rolled her eyes with that 'really, she told you that' look about the coffee issue and told me I could have and should have gotten my coffee when I asked for it the first time. All they do is move the coffee urns back by the drive through at 10:30. Well the end of the story is she gave me the biscuit I ordered, my coffee (upsized) and tossed in a chocolate chip cookie. As I said I have dealt with this young lady before and she is very pleasant and cares about customer service. Yes, I will go back but I will try and not assume my order is right and if I have to ask for the manager again I will.
